Melee Claw/Range Gun Build

ragnakingragnaking Posts: 73 Arc User
Looking for some help on a concept of a hero who uses guns and fighting claws to do battle. I am not exactly sure how I want to proceed overall, though I am thinking for concept (if it'll help) besides the weapons is that they are a genetically enhanced/mutant special ops type, so ether some dodging, regeneration, something along those lines for survivability (admittedly it's more I have enough dps toons and would like something different, a tank I guess.)

    What about this?

I do not suggest this for cosmics, Regeneration is not known for its extreme effectiveness for being the main tank, but in Alerts is more than enough.

Run it in Hybrid for Single player content and when you cannot be the main tank,
    Run in Tank mode otherwise.

Main attack is Bullett Ballet it looks awesome and is boosted by FoTT, Warden/Arbiter specs and Warden Mastery.

The challenge/commanding presence advantage might steal (temporarily) the boss from your tank, so be careful. I put them on secondary attacks on purpose, so if you run in"dps" mode you do not apply them.

    Pistol Whip triggers Concussion.
Antagonize is good and looks cool. You can change it to another block for theme.
Bullet Hail and Holdout Shot are for Threat and defens (shield&heal).
Endorphin Rush is just a suggestion, could be anything but we are out of Adv. points :D

Gear wise? Aim for CON and DEX minor REC.
To get the max DPS from it without diminishing returns, and some knck resist, aim for about 70 STR

Here's another option, mostly using FC for single-target and Muni for ranged AoE and some extra healing and dmg shielding:

    (Unnamed Build) - Freeform (Tank)
    v3.44:36

    Super Stats
    Level 6: Constitution (Primary)
    Level 10: Dexterity (Secondary)
    Level 15: Recovery (Secondary)

    Talents
    Level 1: The Chiller (Dex: 10, Con: 10, Rec: 8, End: 10)
    Level 6: Impresario (Dex: 5, Rec: 5)
Level 9: Quick Recovery (Con: 5, Rec: 5)
Level 12: Amazing Stamina (Rec: 5, End: 5)
    Level 15: Acrobat (Dex: 5, Con: 5)
    Level 18: Accurate (Dex: 5, End: 5)
Level 21: Boundless Reserves (Con: 5, End: 5)

    Powers
    Level 1: Gunslinger
    Level 1: Viper's Fangs (Rank 2, Rank 3, Challenge!)
    Level 6: Relentless
    Level 8: Regeneration (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 11: Form of the Tempest
Level 14: Submachinegun Burst (Wall of Bullets, Challenge!)
    Level 17: Conviction (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 20: Dragon's Claws (Rank 2, Dragon Rush)
    Level 23: Resurgence (Rank 2)
Level 26: Holdout Shot (Stim Pack, Open Wound)
    Level 29: Antagonize (Rank 2, Rank 3)
    Level 32: Pounce
    Level 35: Aggressor
Level 38: Bladed Fury (Rank 2, Commanding Presence)
    Adv. Points: 35/36

    Travel Powers
    Level 6:
    Level 35:

    Specializations
    Constitution: Unyielding (1/2)
    Constitution: Fuel My Fire (3/3)
    Constitution: Resilient (2/2)
    Constitution: Adrenaline Rush (2/2)
    Constitution: Armored (2/2)
    Vindicator: Aggressive Stance (2/2)
    Vindicator: Merciless (3/3)
    Vindicator: Focused Strikes (3/3)
    Vindicator: Mass Destruction (2/3)
    Warden: Fortified Gear (3/3)
    Warden: Ruthless (2/2)
    Warden: Elusive (2/2)
    Warden: The Best Defense (3/3)
    Mastery: Constitution Mastery (1/1)

You can replace the Ult if you don't have it available. The build can also use Invuln or Defiance as the defensive passive instead, but I'll leave that up to you.

VFangs can put up Shredded and Challenge (VF can also cleave when up-close), while charged DC can be the main single-target dmg attack. SMG Burst (or Bullet Hail) can be used as a defensive ranged AoE and Challenge tag, and Open Wound/bleeds from Holdout Shot can help proc Relentless for it. Gears mostly for Con, w/ some Dex and Rec.

Here's my take. Relies on alternating between combo powers. Rocket is an opening move. DK is for energy and its stun. If energy is not a problem maybe sub Dex for Rec as a SS.

Well, FotT scales w/ Dex, so you will def want to put Dex SS in there, instead of using something like STR/Con/Rec. CON/Dex/Rec is a fine option for a Tank setup here, but Str PSS (STR/Con/Dex) can also still prob work w/ Physical Peak and some talents for Rec.

Well question, what is the in general, best tanking or at least survivability based Passive to use? I don't necessarily have to use Regeneration (Resurgence can cover that overall fine) but what would a fighting claws/Pistol (though other guns can be worked in) with one of these passives look per say? I know Invincibility is better for multiple hits when it comes to tanking while Defiance is more for burst damage (or at least that's how I remember it.)

Hmm curious if beastial claw and guns would work too?

Defiance is better for taking big hits, since you have to keep getting hit to keep it stacked, but it offers the highest dmgRes bonus when stacked. Invuln is stronger against small-medium hits and doesn't need to be stacked. Invuln is typically better if you're just going for a survivable build in generalized content.

Yea, it can work. Here's a quick example build:

    (Unnamed Build) - Freeform (Tank)
    v3.44:36

    Super Stats
    Level 6: Constitution (Primary)
    Level 10: Dexterity (Secondary)
    Level 15: Recovery (Secondary)

    Talents
    Level 1: The Chiller (Dex: 10, Con: 10, Rec: 8, End: 10)
    Level 6: Impresario (Dex: 5, Rec: 5)
Level 9: Quick Recovery (Con: 5, Rec: 5)
Level 12: Amazing Stamina (Rec: 5, End: 5)
    Level 15: Acrobat (Dex: 5, Con: 5)
    Level 18: Accurate (Dex: 5, End: 5)
Level 21: Boundless Reserves (Con: 5, End: 5)

    Powers
    Level 1: Gunslinger
Level 1: Shred (Rank 2, Penetrating Strikes, Challenge!)
Level 6: Submachinegun Burst (Wall of Bullets, Challenge!)
    Level 8: Invulnerability (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 11: Form of the Tempest
    Level 14: Relentless
Level 17: Holdout Shot (Stim Pack, Open Wound)
Level 20: Massacre (Rank 2, Bloody Mess)
    Level 23: Resurgence (Rank 2)
    Level 26: Conviction (Rank 2, Rank 3)
    Level 29: Antagonize (Rank 2, Rank 3)
    Level 32: Pounce
    Level 35: Aggressor
Level 38: Bladed Fury (Rank 2, Commanding Presence)
    Adv. Points: 34/36

    Travel Powers
    Level 6:
    Level 35:

    Specializations
    Constitution: Unyielding (1/2)
    Constitution: Fuel My Fire (3/3)
    Constitution: Resilient (2/2)
    Constitution: Adrenaline Rush (2/2)
    Constitution: Armored (2/2)
    Vindicator: Aggressive Stance (2/2)
    Vindicator: Merciless (3/3)
    Vindicator: Focused Strikes (3/3)
    Vindicator: Mass Destruction (2/3)
    Warden: Fortified Gear (3/3)
    Warden: Slaughter (2/3)
    Warden: Ruthless (2/2)
    Warden: The Best Defense (3/3)
    Mastery: Constitution Mastery (1/1)

For single-targets, Shred can put up Shredded, bleeds, and Challenge, while you can use charged Massacre when energy is high for more burst dmg. Holdout Shot can help you w/ bleeds and extra self-healing, regardless. The rest of the build is just similar to my other one.

Looks good to me overall, probably a better fit for my final FF toon, Baskerville.
