Builds Revisions, Reviews and Requests

Hello, came back and saw many changes made to various powersets. These updates have affected my builds and made them outdated. Need help revising old builds and making new ones.

Here's an old Defiant tank I'm reworking into an Unstoppable Might DPS. How does she look?

I would prob add either Uppercut or Beatdown to further optimize Haymaker. With their special advs, either can refresh Demolish and put up Blindside & Reckless for Haymaker- and then you also don't need Reckless on the lunge. I may pick Beatdown here, just so you have a spam-able AoE option (if keeping Havoc Stomp). You could also consider getting Retaliation instead of Energy Shield for the dmg buff after blocking, though any ranked block enhancer (aside from Fluidity) is okay. Here's an example edit of it, keeping the dual passive approach for now:

The last 1-2 powers can be w/e ya want.

The main single-target rotation is to open w/ Demolish (for its debuff), then use one combo of Beatdown (for Reckless and Blindside), and then alternate between 3x charged Haymaker and 1x Beatdown from then on. For AoE and trash, you can group up mobs w/ Havoc Stomp, and then fill time w/ Beatdown's cleave and/or Demolish. I also tweaked the specs a little. Gears mostly for Str, w/ some Con and Rec.

Thank you flowcyto. The build looks much more smoother. Sorry, I had meant to take shockwave, not havoc stomp. Took rebirth for the last power and replaced the lunge with an AO. What do you think about using Roomsweeper and Uppercut in place of Demolish and Beatdown? I took Uppercut because I rather press fewer buttons and Roomsweeper so I can send enemies flying far away when my toon is overwhelmed (am thinking QWZ). In group contents, I'll just stick to shockwave.

Yea, Roomsweeper can also do the job of applying Demolish vs. bosses, so that's fine, and Uppercut is also fine instead of Beatdown (esp if using Shockwave for easy, wide AoE). The build should be pretty versatile and efficient overall, so I hope it works out for ya.

She's looking pretty good at the battle station. Agree with you, she is versatile and efficient. Thanks!

Here's another one that's a PA with Quarry. She used to have two AO and AD, but that's redundant now. I tried this build in the PH and she could now fire off 3 slots but has to used EB a few times after. Before she was just using two slots and energy would drain all the way with three slots, but now it's just halfway even with three slots. I've retain two AD for fexibility. I am undecided between sonic devise or fire all weapons. She has a rank 5 Rec mod.

If you want to make energy management much easier, then you can just pick up Power Conversion in LS. It comes w/ a small dmg/heal penalty, so it's not strictly optimal, but it can go a long way into making builds like 3-slot PA easier to manage- esp when ally buffs aren't around, and/or if you don't want to put as much into energy stats.

Targeting Computer is also the better dps passive for Ranged Tech builds, so I may consider switching over to that. I may also just use Recon Circuits over BCR, just so you skip on the dmg penalty, but BCR can still work out okay for slotted PA builds- if you weave it in between lockout periods. After the AD revamp, I also may also just stick w/ Resurgence and free up MD's slot (unless you also want a mitigation cd option). Here's an example edit of it:

The last 2-3 power slots can be used for w/e ya want. FAW is a good PA Ult for the large burst AoE, though it's prob not a dps increase over 3-slot PA for bosses (you're also tight on adv points here), so you'd be taking it mostly for trash then.

Could instead take an Ego-focus with EGO/End/Con and Concentration (or a Dex-focus with DEX/End/Con and Chilled Form), but this version gears mostly for Int, w/ some End and Con.

How semi-glass cannon are you willing to go? Here's my PA build. Dual Passive for when he needs to be tougher. No real energy issues, especially at cosmics when there is an AoPM around. If you find energy to still be an issue, just take out one of the last two powers and sub in Power Conversion.

Thank you both Flow and Jaaz.

I tried out both builds at the PTS. Both did pretty well against 5 man hard setting.

Wasn't familiar with the build at first but then got use to how RC works. Yes, Flow, it does seem to work better than BCR. Good idea, I got rid of MD and will just stick with Resurgence. Dps was much higher that my previous build.

Had a tough time deciding bet the two builds. In the end, I decided to adopt the dual passive one for the flexibility. Swapped out toxic nanites for rebirth.

I have a question for Jaaz though, how do you use the shoulder launcher? What does the power rotation look like? I'm guessing this is gear mostly for Ego with some Rec and End.

I use the Shoulder Launcher w/ Sonic Device as an opening move when solo or in a small group. Nice to have some damage with a stun to get the party off to a bang. If such a thing is not important in your style of play you could certainly sub in something else (e.g. an ally rez). Otherwise I just keep the 3 toggles going. If I have to block, I toss in either Sonic Device or Toxic Nanites when I open up again. Keeping 3 toggles going is often enough to keep me busy so that other powers end up added for utility value.

At first, I thought the shoulder launcher was redundant with 3 toggles going. After more experimenting, have decided to keep it. Will probably sub out the sonic devise for an AO. Thanks again for the build.

Yeah, Shoulder Launcher is good for PA builds, even if just for an opener on trash (Hand Cannon can also blast stuff before it aggros, and be paired w/ SL, but HC doesn't have the same AoE reach on its own).

The Harbinger build looks pretty good for an LD-based healer/hybrid. Depending on your priorities, you may still want to consider getting a more support-oriented spec- like Sentinel, Sentry, or Overseer, but it's up to you what you want to focus on. I'd also consider training and ranking the AO last, since it's imo the most replaceable thing here (you may want a normal ally heal or something in practice, just as a backup). You prob also want the Nycto adv on ERuin, if keeping it. You could also get R2 in the ally res instead of R2 in the AO or the blast, if you want to pop up allies w/ a bit more health.

Thanks as always for your feedback Flow. I patterned this build after a Shadow Form build you made for me ages ago and added the healing parts. I like your sound suggestions and have added all of them to the build below. what do you think?

Sounds good. I guess you'll be using the blast to proc Wither and Sentinel Mastery w/ its adv- that can work, as long as you weave it into your rotations.

This toon is my dodge build. She used to have demolish and another power that refresh it but I found it too tedious for a tank to keep track of that in addition to tanking. She also did not have protector spec and MD. This is the build I'm planning to update her with. What do you think? I don't mind the double penalty from BCR/RR and Elusive Monk.

Well, it's a bit rng-based w/ FotT, Steadfast, and the adv on the energy builder. The dmg/threat will also be quite low from the build. But at least you prob won't have as many energy issues due to all the energy building. You could get an Ult w/ a threat adv if holding aggro is still an issue, though. I'm also not sure if you're aiming for 100% dodge here, but gear will also factor into that.

Yes, she is a 100% Dodge Tank. Her crit chance sits at 38%. I stacked Dex so energy is ok for the most part, the EB is for applying aversion and twist fate to make it easier to get higher Dodge. I swapped out Dragon Uppercut for EB Pandemonium with threat adv. following your recommendation.

Well, DU is still nice for a heavier single-target attack, provided you aren't having energy issues w/ it. I may still keep it and find room for the ult elsewhere, provided it's not that hard to keep it in the rotation (I can see why it may be too much, though, since 100% dodge builds are busy w/ important buff upkeep as is). Ofc, this is also assuming you have aggro issues already; I was just making a suggestion based on that, but perhaps it's not the case for you in practice. You could perhaps train it and its advs last, so re-training it is relatively cheap if you do find that you need to change that power slot.

I haven't tried using this build for end game content so I'm not sure how she will perform there. For everything else, she seem to work fine. ok, I'll just train those powers last for easier swap option. thank you.

It looks alright overall, though it doesn't have its own AoE attack to use versus trash (not the biggest deal for such a build, but it's something to consider). There's not many ways to proc MSA here either, but I suppose Conviction is good enough for that as is. PBR is pretty cheap atm anyways. I'd consider the ranks in the Muni Bots to be of lower priority, if you want to free adv points for something else, but it's up to you. Also, keep in mind that MSA scales mostly w/ Int than w/ Rec.

Burst Ray's AoE cone is kinda narrow, but it can work alright w/ good positioning. You could also just take Sonic Boom Generator, or maybe a Muni AoE or something like Elec Current (if thematic enough). The Spider Ult is good too- you'd just be more reliant on its cd to clear things, vs. having a normal AoE. But it's up to you, as you have a number of options there, and some of it is just up to playstyle preferences. A block enhancer could also be nice vs some harder content, but you'd have to make room for it (you prob wouldn't want to bring pets to high-end stuff anyways, so you could drop one from the build if you go there).

Targeting Computer is still the better dps passive, and Frag Grenade is more ideal for the AP debuff than Burst Shot. Ofc, you can still do fine w/ Composure and Burst Shot, if you want a slightly different approach to TGM-based Muni. Similar thing w/ BCR, due to its dmg penalty, but you can keep it for Composure, if you want. I prob wouldn't put R2 on Burst Shot as a high priority, either way- assuming you're mainly using it for the AP debuff.

As for Sharpshooter: it scales only w/ Dex, so if using EGO PSS with it then you'd want 3/3 in 6th Sense. Showdown and Gatling Gun also innately won't work w/ Sharpshooter, unfortunately (Gatling's LtR adv can refresh Furious, but you'd first have to get stacks). You could also just stick w/ Conc or Chilled Form as the toggle to make things easier, though your main stat focus may change then.

I'd like to make use of all the existing passives on my toons. Already have two that uses TC and none with Composure. So this is the one using Composure. Also had not realized Sharpshooter does not work with Gatling and Showdown, thanks for catching that and explaining it. I switched to Frag Grenade with adv, took Chilled as form, will stay Dex focused. Does Furious refresh itself when used continually or is a refresher needed for it?

Here's the updated one: https://aesica.net/co/herocreator.htm?v=35&n=All Star&d=15270cIKWLXa06301180008B038E005800890HJD038J0C8S03EQ04ON018O00OQ008K038Z030tH53BIR03tr10000000000&e=

Furious stacks up to 3 times, though individual stacks don't refresh, unless the ability_adv says that it refreshes all stacks. With a maintain like TGM (or Bullet Hail in AoE) it's not really a big deal, since constant maintains should keep you at 2-3 Furious stacks naturally as is. Anyways, the edits look alright, and you could also consider getting Mass Destruction instead of Rush of Battle in Vind, though maybe you like the latter's heal.

Ok, I understand. Thanks. I usually take 2 point in Rush for my glass cannon builds, but yeah, mass destruction sound good too. Thanks for pointing that out.

Next one is a dual blades invulnerability tank. I'm experimenting and wondering what an invul tank with dodge stacked would look like though Avoidance would still be at 20%. I did not take thundering kick, because I already have another two or three toons with it. Is this feasible or should I do away with the idea?

Well, outside of using TKicks for it, I'd prob pass on going for dodge when using Invuln. The build looks okay otherwise, though you'll prob have energy issues spamming DW. You could just get Rush and R2 or the special adv on it, and just use the combo and EotS for Challenge. A self-res also won't generally be that great on a tank, since you'll lose aggro upon death- though I guess for some easier or solo content it can be fine as a backup power.

Yea, Toxic Nanites is okay for the extra dmg boost. Could also leave that slot trained last as a wildcard, if you want relatively cheap retraining of it, and in case you change your mind later.

Hmmm, you've no lunge with NttG.

Here's my DB tank build : DB Tank
A few notes :
- Throw Fire : I dislike melee EB but you can pick any EB you like.
- Void Shift w/EN : in my opinion, this lunge adv is the best by far, it's the only lunge adv that debuffs everyone around.
- Endorphin Rush : the heal is weak but it's cheap and usually enough when combo with Adrenaline Rush.
- spe Mass Destruction : I've more aoe than ST so Mass Destruction synergies better with my build.
Choose gears with +hp and mod with Dex and Con.

Heat Wave or Flame Prison can also apply holds for debuffing, if you don't like using Firebreath. However, they also aren't spammable AoEs (since they can apply EFlames, you could drop Firesnake for one, I suppose). It also seems like a missed opportunity to have Absorb Heat here too. I'd prob put R1 Immolation as the lowest priority thing here, regardless.

You could also use the Smoldering toggle/form instead, though you'd have to change to a Rec focus (can keep Pres PSS, though), but it's up to you as it'll be a different style of keeping your form stacked. If you're keeping Compassion, then I may switch Rec SS for End SS, to boost TReverb a bit more.

Ofc, you could also ditch the debuff/hold setup and just go for a more pure healer route, but that's also up to you to decide on.

What would a pure healer hearth build look like? I vaguely recall seeing a build like that before but I cant find the page.

Thank you, Flow.

Thanks as well, Holloweaver. I added Void Shift and Endorphine Rush in place of MD and Rebirth.

https://aesica.net/co/herocreator.htm?v=35&n=Symphony&d=13720iGKPLQa063010B000B10ZB8009A03BI00BM0bBK0C9D03K503ON018O00EZ07JN00LC002so93T3B3V7010000000000&e=

Maybe I failed to explain the point about Void Shift (if so, it's ok I can do that a lot lol).
So... The point about Void Shift is in its advantage : Emerging Nightmares. But without Emerging Nightmares, you can pick any lunge.

I went back and read your post again. You explained it well. Afraid I missed the point, sorry about that.

Was hard to find the two points for it, I checked your build again and also took it from EoTS. Added EN to the lunge. Here's the build. Thanks for pointing it out again and for posting your build.

Mostly in changing the specs to get more support-related options, instead of Wither/Vuln/Sent Mastery. But it also means that you don't necc have to play around applying holds for debuffing. So if you wanted to get something other than, say, Firebreath, you could. An example spec for it:

Specializations
Presence: Repurpose (3/3)
Presence: Selfless Ally (2/2)
Presence: Moment of Glory (3/3)
Presence: Force of Will (2/2)
Sentinel: Caregiver (3/3)
Sentinel: Sentinel Aura (3/3)
Sentinel: Moment of Need (3/3)
Sentinel: Genesis (1/2)
Sentry: Fortified Gear (2/3)
Sentry: Precise (3/3)
Sentry: Sentry Aura (3/3)
Sentry: Fortify (2/2)
Mastery: Presence Mastery (1/1)

The 3rd spec (Sentry) could be something else as well, depending upon what else you want to shore up w/ the build.

Ofc, it also means a bit of a playstyle difference. Up to you how/if you want to change it, though.

Ah, I understand. Much prefer Conflagration over Firebreath. Will go pure healer since there's no spammable holds for Fire, made the switch to this build. Also, how good is Absorb Heat? I haven't tried it. Would it be better than Iniquity?Took Compassion over Smoldering to have the Sentinel Aura passively boost it.

I would keep Iniquity for reliable tank/ally healing, but Absorb Heat is a nice burst AoE heal, on a cd. Also, passive healing auras don't proc Compassion on their own anymore, though ofc there's other reasons to use Compassion here. It kinda depends on how much healing vs. attack you are doing too- if you are playing more offensively w/ the Fire powers, it'll generally be easier to stack Smoldering, while it's easier to stack Compassion when actively healing.

Thanks for the clarification that passive aura does not boost Compassion anymore. Ok, will use Smoldering then. At the very least, she'll be tossing the grenade every once in a while.

I'd prob have a cheap single-target attack in there (Ice Blast is fine), since Avalanche is an AoE and will be quite costly to use here (partly due to the pet energy penalties, also just cause it's pretty expensive at base). You could maybe trade the arcane summon or air ele for it, but it's up to you.

Ok, swapped out Arcane summons for a R3 Ice Blast here.

Alright. I guess the the blast could also replace the self-res instead, if you think you won't need the latter. You could also consider the Hard Frost adv to boost the sustained dmg of the arctic and wind pets a bit, if you want. Hope it plays well for you, regardless, though I assume that you won't be bringing this build to cosmics.

Oh, that is good advise, I had not thought of Hard Frost working with the arctic beast and air elemental. Thanks for pointing that out. No, I have another AoED/healer toon for that. This is one of three pet builds I'm making, a Medical Nanites one, listed above, this one, an an upcoming AoRP one.
