Why do powersets like Electricity, Fire, Force, Wind, Ice, Darkness, and others not have any melee power options?
With "Summon Shadows", the minions use an attack called "Dark Sunder", and a "Void Horror" uses "Dark Laceration". They mostly look like bestial attacks, but cause dimensional damage instead, though Dark Sunder sometimes looks like Beatdown.
Couldn't we just copy those attacks as player powers? Maybe add a chance to cause Fear, or Devoid at the end of a combo, or have them added through advantages? I know most elemental powers and most of the mystic ones are predominantly ranged, but it'd be fun to have melee options for thematic reasons, and since some things of that sort already exist, why not?
I can see it already.
DARK SUNDER
Darkness
16-20 energy
0.5 sec
MELEE AOE DAMAGE - FEAR - COMBO
Deals dimensional damage.
Has a 15% chance to apply Fear. This chance is doubled if you are affected by Shadow Manifestation (or maybe something else).
The chance would be 50% on the third swipe, like Frenzy, and instead of an advantage to add Deadly Poison, it could have a chance of applying Devoid or maybe some sort of dark DoT.
If the effect chance is doubled by Shadow Manifestation, people won't get as much melee power as if they used Enrage, but if being doubled by Shadow Manifestation is at least an option, like how some buff forms use one of two stats, whichever's higher, then there's room for more fun. At least that's how I see it.
Mostly I just want to be able to curse enemies with my touch, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd like alternatives like a fire punch, or forming icicles on your fists to do empowered melee attacks with a boosted crit chance. Force could combine punching with small explosions of kinetic energy, Electricity could add a shock effect of some sort, and I'm not sure about Wind.

That said, since fear doesn't stack, it'd probably be better off being just being applied 100% with the last hit. Devoid apply advantage on the final hit is good though. As for dots, I don't think it really needs one. It could just be strong on its own (kind of like Cleave with maybe the devoid advantage, plus an advantage to apply Dependency (or just heal the user per hit) or something similar.
And I like clawing stuff as a wraith.
