How To Make Money for CO

pwestolemynamepwestolemyname Posts: 978 Arc User
Three words: Cutscene. Skip. Token.

Seriously, sell some QoL items. I would pay $5 per character to skip cutscenes. I have talked to many other people who would also buy a skip cutscene token. Nobody I know likes cutscenes.

Teleport to zone token. Would I pay real money to not have to fly to the plane to shift zones? Yes, yes I would. I know there are tokens that can teleport you to a specific zone, but having one that operates like the plane, bringing up a list of zones to choose from, would be really nice. I don't know why they didn't sell the zone ports for Z in the first place, real missed opportunity there. I mean, it was nice of them to give those away, but if they need money to operate, there are better ways to do it than what was recently proposed.

The aforementioned convert AT to FF token for Silvers.

Gender change token.

Increased chat channel limit,

Those are just a few to start, I'm sure there are many other QoL suggestions that could be added to help the bottom line of the game. I mean, I realize they have to make money to operate, and I don't begrudge that a bit, but you can't punish your playerbase to do it. QoL tokens would increase the playing enjoyment of the playerbase while bringing additional revenue.

There's already a goodie that teleports you to the plane to change places. It's called the furlong device.

I don't have a problem with most of these ideas, except the skip cutscene token. Honestly it should be a base feature not a store item... Making players pay for such a feature would only harm the game and Cryptic/PWI's reputation. It's even worse than Creative Assembly and their "turn on blood" paying DLCs for Totalwar Warhammer.

So what would happen if you're doing FM and you press skip cutscene but no-one else does?

Yeah how would you make skippable cutscenes work for multiplayer content? Does one person get to decide for the whole group if they are going to watch the cutscene or not? If not that what happens when some people decide to watch and some people don't? Do you have to wait around anyway or does the alert start while half the team stands around doing nothing as they watch the cutscene? How would that effect the timer?

Guild Wars did this, too. When one person pressed "skip", it'd come up with a button onscreen saying "1/5 people want to skip this cutscene", letting it be known people were skipping. I'd imagine this would be a nightmare to code or something.

Ok sure it could work if they had some kind of voting system in place... but if they were to sell skip cutscene tokens as OP suggested...would those people with the tokens be the only ones who could vote? Or maybe people with tokens would only be requited to initiate the vote? Either way it is a whole lot more complicated than just adding a thing that allows people bypass cutscenes.

A furlong is an archaic unit of distance measurement equivalent to 1/8 of a mile.

Or 100 hexes in the PnP game, being the more useful reference.

Well, I could continue chatting in my channels. Swap costumes or builds. Rearrange my always trashed inventory.

You would just wait till everyone else is watching it. Well, you could continue chatting in your channels. Swap costumes or builds. Rearrange your always trashed inventory.

    1) I find it incredibly unlikely that they are just going to give it to us for free, which means if we insisted on that we would never get it. 2) They obviously need to increase revenue. My suggestion satisfies both conditions.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that one. I would still pay a few bucks to skip that extra loading screen.

I'd say given how much time they've had to do it I think it will simply never be implemented. But even if they decided to add it eventually, selling it would be a very damaging move in terms of image.

Everyone presses a button to skip and then the cutscene is skipped. That's how it works in Dark Souls. Skip Tokens won't work very well. What if I have a token to skip but no one else does? Seems like I just flushed money down the drain.

How would it even be programmed? If I have a skip token and no one else does, do I still get stuck in the cutscenes because everyone isn't on the same page? Skip Tokens are borderline useless then because there's a good chance one person won't have them. What if the Skip Token does allow me to skip cutscene, but the content doesn't start until everyone is done? Skip Token is still kinda worthless since it doesn't do the thing I actually want and that is start the event faster. What if it does start the content without everyone? What if that content has a lockout?

What if you only need one person with a skip token to skip for everyone? Who's token gets used if three people hammer "skip" all at once? What about the new person who's never seen the cutscenes before and actually wants to but a bunch of assholes keep skipping for them?

When you introduce money into something like skipping a cutscene, you have too many scenarios where someone gets screwed in some fashion. The problems it would cause are not worth the time and aggravation to make it a cash shop item.
