Do something about ultimate powers

I just came back after a 3 or 4 year hiatus. To my dismay, the new ultimates are locked behind lockboxes that arent even around much any more. So, youve essentially blocked returning vets and new people from being able to get the ultimatest that match their character's power set if the ultimate isnt on the AH? Really? Powers locked in lock boxes is the most absurd thing youve done. Just wow.

Old lockbox ultimates can be bought from the Collectors store via Gold Voucher Special Item A (or was it B?), which can be acquired from the Collectors Box or bought from other players

Also those lockboxes are kinda the reason there is still a game for you to return to after 3 or 4 years, cause shocking news flash! MMOs need to make money to stay alive.

If the game was still a retail and subscription only game then I would agree with you but this now a free to play game. The most generous free to play MMO around in my book. They have to make money somehow. I personally hate any form of gambling so I wont touch a lockbox ever but I understand why the are in this game.

It's Purple Foil Special Item Voucher. There are also plenty on AH.

It's amazing how people only see or hear what they want. I have no problems with lockboxes or microtrans in any game. I have a problem with one thing. Locking powers away that belong in power sets. They could have even charged for the powers separately and Id buy them in a heartbeat. I sub to this game too. And btw, if PW didn't act like such a terrible company and actually added real content to this game, people might come back and we wouldnt have less than 500 people on during peak hours. And dont try to lie and say there are more than that. Ive gone to each area and counted the number in the instances. Even during this event with peak hours it is usually less than 500 players.
Lot of things they could put in lockboxes. Ultimates shouldnt be one of them. Not when there are no ultimates for each AT that aren't shared (like energy ultimate being for the elemental classes).

Every time I open lockboxes they fill my inventory with stuff. I wish gambling worked that way :'3

I find it easier to just buy them off the auction house. No lockbox shenanigans required. Also, ultimates really aren't that essential to making a good character.
(Hopefully) Useful CO Resources: HeroCreator (character planner), Cosmic Timers/Alert Checklist, Blood Moon Map, Anniversary Cat Map, and more (eventually, anyway).

Me too. I'd rather sell stuff, rack up Gs and buy off the AH (or from players; thanks to the kind soul who sold me Stoic Flight for 2000 Gs).

I just "arrest" stuff, take it's Q, turn Q into Zen, wait for a key sale, buy keys, then open boxes. Sell the stuff I don't need (most of it) and keep the rest. Then I use the G from sales to buy other stuff. I agree with Nepht, it is a generous F2P game.

Also, many ultimates are lame, anyway, so don't worry about it.

I don't think the OP was saying that all lockboxes, in general, are bad. I think they are only saying that "powers" locked behind them are bad.

I made a post earlier suggesting that LTS members should be able to have free access ultimates, if anything. They've payed a pretty penny (which comes with perks already, I know) so why not allow them access to a handful of powers that isn't going to give any kind of unfair advantage?

As far as lock boxes go, there are a ton of auras, action figures, emotes, costumes, weapons, travel powers, devices, etc. that will keep people grinding/ paying for keys, which, will continue generating money. I was an off & on again subscriber for years until I finally decide to just go lifetime. I have no problem continuing to fork over cash (aside from the free $500 you get each month) for things in the store that I want. I would just like to be able to use these newly created powers without having to jump through more hoops that are on top of the other hoops I'm jumping through to get the gear, mods, auras....
