Updating the Builds for Freeform Characters

So a couple months ago I had a thought about the "builds" for my freeform character Jer. The problem I have with these builds though is that they only go with the powers you have, which you can only do so much with those amount of powers until it becomes repetitive. So, my idea was, what if each build let you have their OWN powerset?

To set an example, lets go with an elemental that knows all the elements. Each build could go with a specific element, so one build could be targeted towards fire and have a specific costume to go with it, same with ice, or earth, wind, etc. So basically, if you want to think about it this way, each build could be a different AT. This could give an extra boost of customization for freeforms.

So my idea for Jer's builds were going to go as follows:
  • My normal version would stay the way he is right now, where he has a mix of wind and some weapons.
  • My super version would be targeted more on the lines of having wind powers, so he'd pretty much become the squall, but with a customized spec for that build.
  • A ninja themed one where he might have some minor wind powers but also some blade attacks and some martial arts.
  • A mercenary style, like the soldier AT, so he would have just weapons but no wind powers.
  • A brawler kind of build where he has some punching attacks, and maybe some kicking attacks, also adding a couple strong wind attacks too.
  • Then there would be an empty build slot that I could use for random things, maybe combining cold powers and earth with wind, or if they added a water power, add some of those powers.

What do you guys think of this idea? I think it would be cool, and it would be an interesting change. I'd say if it were to become a thing though, have it be so you can't change it mid combat, just so it wouldn't complicate things, like if someone pressed the builds by accident during a cosmic fight or something.

I'm pretty sure the powers that be would not go for that, as it would allow you to play several characters in only one slot, instead of having to use up several slots to do it.

It'd actually be fine if they reduced the number of build slots to something like 2, maybe 3 at most. I wouldn't classify it as playing 2 characters though, more like 2 different styles for the same character. For example, somebody could make a D.Va style character, with power armor abilities for their mech suit and a mix of munitions for when they get out. Press build 1 to use your mech form, press build 2 to "hop out" and start shooting up bad guys with pistols.

It'd be a fantastic thing if they could make it happen, however this probably involves adding more code and player data to an already dated engine, and they might not be very comfortable with that due to possible unforeseen side effects.
(Hopefully) Useful CO Resources: HeroCreator (character planner), Cosmic Timers/Alert Checklist, Blood Moon Map, Anniversary Cat Map, and more (eventually, anyway).

This would be awesome for people who play as shapeshifters. Too bad it will most likely never happen.
