When you design an outfit or cosplay, what are you shooting for?

Courage is doing what is right even when it isn't popular or safe. Honor is retaining the dignity and virtue in one's self, so it can light the way for others in the darkest of times. Compassion is showing patience and mercy towards others, even when it isn't returned or deserved. A hero is defined by these 3 words, they set him apart from others as a beacon of hope and excellence.

Anyway, I try to ensure that the character's costumes are representative of their background and what they actually wear as that character. There are a few exceptions, but for me it's mostly accuracy to the character I am playing as. I will usually update a character's looks as new pieces come out which fit their canon better or try to experiment to see if a new combination of pieces is better representative. The characters looking how they do, whether it's cool, sexy, ugly, etc. is a byproduct of how I try to ensure the way they look is what represents them and their background.
And I will always be @DZPlayer122.

It depends on my mood and what character I happen to be playing. Sometimes I just want to try out a new combo of powers and I slap on the costume as an after thought then expand it from there as I get a sense for the character's identity. Othertimes it is a costume idea that comes first and I select the powers that best fit the theme I am aiming for.
- Cute
- Awesome/Cool
- Beautiful/Glamorous
- Lusty/Attractive
This really isn't a "just pick one" poll.
Sometime it's just a matter of having the basics. Pirate? Check. Space Pirate? Check. Sky Pirate? Check. Casual? Check. Cowboy? Check. Holiday? Check. Cyber Ghost Samurai? Check.
In-game events are also an excuse opportunity to make something stolen new.
Usually, only one of my character's costumes is their themed look. I tend not to do skimpy outfits. It's not exactly hard to wear nothing and it's not much of a costume without clothes.

i always stick with the characters' primary costumes, some of them have ALT costumes for different builds (with passives and gear) or just because I really like the character
I always design costumes for my characters with the following Criteria
- Matching the Character's theme, both lore and power wise. Design is IMPORTANT
- The costume needs to match with their personality, their occupation and their Body types
- Trying to experiment with different colours and avoid using my favorite combinations again and again (So much Green~) using references from my favorite RPGs is not a bad thing
- The costume needs to be pleasant and friendly for the eyes, horrible colours and edgy outfits which deform the character into a silouethe of eye ganging colours will be TOSSED
- The oufit needs have good Colour Synergy. Combining 2 to 4 different colours which need to look good together, highlight each other or are Complementary (including small detail colours like white, gold e.t.c)
- If the character has different skin colours (either because they are fantasy creatures or have different nationality) or Fur/Feathers/Scales colours (for anthro character), this needs to be taken into account so the costume colours wont look aweful.
- If the character is Robotic, the costume needs to take in account the METAL textures and how the colours change
- If Im not satisfying with the costume, I scrap and start from the start, Always keep a character base costume without clothes for that. I have delayed leveling for that and missed XP events.
- In general i'm more specialized in designing fantasy themed costumes and heroes. Modern Technology is not my strongest point, i prefer Steampunk
Mostly I go with some variant on tights, because I'm a little old-fashioned about superhero styles. OTOH, Patchwork is a cyborg who mostly built herself; her appearance is mostly armored bits, especially the (artificial) limbs. Mr. Softee is a former mascot for an ice-cream parlor, who became his costume and gained ice powers thanks to an extradimensional entity that misunderstood something he said, so he's built out of the snowman parts from the winter event. And Captain Bananahammock, based on a wild whim I had once, wears a cape, gloves, boots, and the briefest briefs I could find in the tailor, for fairly obvious reasons. (In some parts of the world, I'd probably have named him Captain Budgie-Smuggler.)
For the most part, though, I go with a costume I find pleasing. (I'm quite proud of the fire motif I worked up for Pyretta Blaze.) And "canon/accuracy" can only be a concern if you're cloning a trademarked character. Do we need to go into why that's bad once again?
