Angel Clarification

So in the game you can see Therakiel the Fallen Angel who looks monstrous with glowy energy wings, but then there is the Become Celestial device which makes you a glowing being with Nephilim armor and glowy Nephilim Wings, AND THEN there is that power which summons an angel to heal you and your group but it looks like a little human with bird wings and a halo...

So what I am getting at is what is what? Are Therakiel's Wings (and the Celestial's) what Angel wings in Champions Universe look like? Is the Celestial an Angel or something else? Is that little human-lookin Angel not an Angel? Help me out

Maybe it's just a matter of different 'celestials' (I'm lumping all angelic beings under this umbrella) have different types of wings.

Or maybe it's just a matter of fashion sense and flaunting their level of leetness. Therakiel is obviously far more powerful than the flunky we can summon, so he's probably been able to farm better costume unlocks for himself. Our poor summoned angel, on the other hand, is still wearing his/her noob wings. :(
(Hopefully) Useful CO Resources: HeroCreator (character planner), Cosmic Timers/Alert Checklist, Blood Moon Map, Anniversary Cat Map, and more (eventually, anyway).

The angel summons don't even have names! Poor guys. It'd be funny to make a character based on a summon that strikes off on their own.

On a slightly more serious (and on-topic) point, Therakiel looks like he does because he's the Half-Angel, an Angel that did not choose a side between God and Lucifer when the latter made his split. Therakiel was "cast down", but wasn't welcome in Hell. He landed in what would become Vibora Bay, grew salty, and turned the area into a "place of power" (where civilizations oftentimes pop up). His Nephilim, who you fight throughout Vibora Bay and Therakiel's Temple, are " powerful half-angel/half-demon creatures who serve Therakiel. Corrupted beings formed out of cosmic conflict, under the control of a dark master."

The angels you summon are Guardian/Cherubim at Rank 1, Valkyrie/Malakite at Rank 2, and Seraphim/Seraph at Rank 3. These are more alike the celestial that aligned with God. apart from the demons that followed Lucifer.

I also wish to note that all of these biblical analogues and references are somewhat strange for this setting. It seems odd to make as much content as Cryptic did on a specific religious work, which evidence exists that there are many other Gods in the Champions Universe, including the Greek/Roman Pantheon and the Norse Pantheon, as well as many, many extraterrestrial/interdimensional beings with "godlike" power.
It makes sense, if you don't think about it.

So what about the Become Celestial device form? Where do you think that fits in? Doesn't seem like Therakiel's kind but definitely is beyond the summon

I think the confusion is game lore wise - we are talking about three different classes of beings..

Nephilim: Are Angel/Demon Hybrids. They stand somewhere between order and chaos. Neither heaven or hell will accept them, so they seek to remake the world in their own image. When they were thrown out of heaven they were trapped in what we now call Vibora Bay.

Celestials: There really isn't a lot of in-game lore about these guys. They are not Nephilim and they are not biblical Angels. I've always assumed there were other dimensional energy beings, that resemble what humans call Angels. The must be rare, as they only appear when someone uses the "Become Celestial" Device.

Angels: These are 100% pure biblical style Angels. They don't resemble Nephilim because they are not corrupted by demonic energy. They look like the traditional Angels you see in stained glass windows or classical art.

Now that being all said. I wouldn't mind the Radiant Summoning pet to get a little costume love. Also, it would be nice to have a pet choice that wasn't a traditional "Christian Style Angel". I'd be happy if we got a Celestial Dragon, Genie, Fairy or another mystical style as an alternate choice.

I find it rather odd that the Nephilim act so evil when they should theoretically have a neutral alignment...

As for other pantheons, we have Kigatilik.

The reason for this may be that the Ban that is in place in the Champion's universe basically gave the win to the Biblical God and therefore you could surmise that He and His minions would have the easiest time manifesting and interfering in the lives of mortal beings whereas the other Gods are being mostly shut-out.

I think some alternate skins for summoned celestials would be great, such as nephilim--looking creattures.

The angels, devas, buddhas, yazatas, and other spirits of the "ethical" religions (those which emphasize codes of "good" conduct and a higher state of spirituality) all exist in the dimension of Elysium, on the Astral Plane. In that, they are distinct from the gods, monsters, and supernatural races of the dimension of Faerie, who are "mythological" beings with the same desires and flaws as humans. But both these dimensions are what are called "Imaginal Realms," spawned over time out of the collective consciousness of all Humanity. They aren't the "real" spirits of these religions, assuming such beings actually exist (Champions takes no religious stand).

In real-world historical lore, angels of the Abrahamic faiths (Judaism/Christianity/Islam) have many appearances. Some are described as resembling animals, while others may be abstract forms like wheels of fire. This may sometimes relate to the function they were created for -- some angels exist to heal, lor to protect, others to battle evil or punish sinners. (Those latter are in principle "good," but they aren't tolerant or compassionate.) Angels have named ranks, such as the cherubim and seraphim, according to their power and importance.

Therakiel in Champions Online looks very different from the description of Therakiel in the PnP game. In fact a lot of the visuals in CO change things from the source material. I'm pretty sure that the appearance of angels in the MMO is based on whatever the devs at the time thought would look "cool," rather than any specific precedents. o:)

Nephilim are part of Western occult tradition, but didn't appear in the PnP game -- the ones here were created specifically for the MMO. What the game chooses to call "Celestials" also have no PnP game precedents, and AFAICT don't refer to anything specific in Abrahamic tradition. Again, I suspect it was just chosen as a cool-sounding name for a "Become" device.

If you'd like to know more lore of the "supernatural" side of the Champions Universe, the premier source is the PnP Champs book, The Mystic World.
