Release Notes for FC.31.20151210a.19
This build is available on PTS as of 1/27/2016

- Players who pre-ordered the game and received device rewards (like Inborn Tenacity) will be able to claim one aura from the device as well.
- Regeneration core now scales with rank.
- Adjusted prices on the Gold Champion Recognition vendor.
- The Pharaoh Nemes headdress can now be worn without the crown.
- Fixed all forms of Seraphim from applying mysterious slashing damage.
- Become Doomlord and Celestial Death's Embrace and Light's Embrace powers now have a 2 second charge time and can be interrupted by movement or damage. This was done to put these powers more in line with other player resurrection powers.
- Changed Cupid's Arrow so that it properly buffs the stated amount of HP. Made it so this buff's effects cannot stack.
- Renamed Earth costume set to Mountain costume set. Updated description with what items are included inside.
- Added Retro Dr. Destroyer and Mini-Mega Destroid to collector store.
- Fixed the Until Transport device to warp to the correct location.
- The turrets in Stronghold PvP should no longer go immune to damage.
- The teleport to Ren-Center zen store item has been updated to no longer display error text.
- Fixed the ice material not showing up on cherub wings.
- Removed the Until token store from this contact as until tokens are no longer in the game.
- Added background image for the Teleios Lair queue.
- Removed old Unity merit stores from the game as the currency no longer exists. Updated some store name in the recognition and questionite store to be more specific. Added Unity Merit action figures to the silver recognition store. Removed them from the quesitonite store.
- Zen items sold at vendors should properly display again. The sell tab should now work for vendors that were updated to display store collections instead of a single store.
- Wings now flap when jumping. This does not include Butterfly or Insect wings.

Please stay on topic in this PTS thread. We use bug reports from this thread to decide whether a PTS build is ready to go live, and so we need to make sure we're seeing everything in it. Please do discuss the changes, but if you find yourself writing about something that isn't specific to what's on PTS, then that should probably go here: http://forum.arcgames.com/championsonline/categories/gameplay-bugs1.

These player & moderator maintained threads are checked weekly by the development team.

Bug: Seraphim is still placing the character in combat while slotted. Travel powers are stuck at combat speed, out-of-combat health regen doesn't kick in, teleport devices won't charge, etc.

Since we'll be able to claim an aura, can we see those auras on the Inborn Tenacity device disappear? :3

Hero Games fix? Truly we live in a golden age.

    Thank you. <3

    PVP is starving without rewards

    1. Please give us Daily PVP missions that reward Questionite.
    2. Please give us an exchange rate between Acclaim and Recognition so that PVP has access to all "On Alert" PVE rewards.

I don't see a topic for gear discussion so i'll post here. The Crit Severity gear generally needs to be increased some. Not only that, but some of the increase from one level to the next is horrible (for example going from 7 to 8 is only a .1 gain) and there should be a bigger jump in severity at the higher levels.

-Also, when the finalized patch (whether it's this one or the actual Telios patch) hits live will we all be forced to retcon? That's what it's looking like now on PTS.

The currency does still exist (some of us are even sitting on some), but even stranger, it still drops occasionally in UNITY (1) missions. (I picked some up last year - i think September was the last i did UNITY 1.) I think I've even picked up some UNITY intelligence.

(Qlippothic essences are also still lootable in UNITY 1).

Guess I should wander the character who's sitting on 1000+ unity merits down to the store and use them before its gone...

-Sepherim still does the "you're always in combat" thing when slotted.

-That change to the res powers on the becomes has removed the major attractor aspect of said becomes as well as making the other functions of said powers nigh impossible to use, after all they do more than just res, so maybe make it not get interrupted on hit? [I propose alternatly, you put it back to how it was, and make the deaths/lights embrace a player ulimate]

-the anti-graviton boots and visperian cloak are painfully slow and have a VERY limited flight ceiling, rendering them mostly moot as a travel device.

-bat flight STILL dosn't allow you to use any powers while it is active/it dosn't grant any kind of detection stealth, I strongly recomend that you make it like scrab flight, so users can attack while using the TP

-still no "hover" stance in the tailor :/

Lots of my characters have Unity Merit and Until Tokens on them. Will they continue to just sit there or will you make them disappear? Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could have a mechanism that would allow us to convert them to some other currency that is useful? E.g. SCR or GCR. That would be nice PR move.

I agree. I don't have tons of UNITY currency, but it would be nice to get something for it.

Likewise, Qliphothic Essence shows up in UNITY Missions. It used to be awesome in the old crafting system.
What about changing it to something useful in the modding system, like a safeguard catalyst, a R6 core, etc.?

I've always resented that a device makes a healer/rezzer irrelevant. This change is a positive.

The anti-grav boots and Vesperine cloak are not meant as serious travel powers, but accessories. They are super useful for heroes with teleportation as a travel power.

Bat Flight really is a problem--either it should work like Scarab Flight, or it should provide some other benefit, like stealth.

I know, but they could at least take the flight celing off the damn things and make them work like r1 flight in manverbility terms... after all, 100,000Q for a device which makes me potter about at laughable speeds isn't very.... attractive as far as devices go.

It is a common mechanic in video games. It keeps a tank like player from being able to just revive everyone else each time the rest of their team is down. Otherwise, actually losing becomes impossible as long as that player can go around reviving everyone. The revive is meant to be used away/out of combat.

Yeah, the price is very, very high for these items.
Currently, the cloak goes for only 100G on the AH.

Though I think that should be a thing, DoTs are quite annoying torwards interaction with objects and revives. It's whole 10 (aprox.) seconds of waiting to be able to revive somebody. Thankfully though, shielding yourself usually does the trick.

The MCPD Travel Powers (Scarab and Ooze Tunneling) are still 1000 Recog, if you guys wanted to change that too.

And I'll add my voice to the travel powers, in particular, being supremely overpriced. It's more taunting for someone that wants those, than anything. Probably better around 200 Recog, at least then I can see someone grinding for something they really want. Even if it's a misguided vampire. ;-D

    Other bits of feedback:

    - I love the Lemurian Trident from UNTIL recog - nice amount of charges despite the Unique tag, and on a short cooldown. And fun to throw. ^_^

    - Nice to see the Punji Stick trap in there too!

    - Not enamored with the Unique tag on all the 3/3 charge devices. Is their really game balance issues with removing this? They're on charges anyway. Plus, more devices in one's inventory means encouraging more bag space (which are purchases - especially for Silvers).

    - Trident of The Elemental Master: Requires a full charge (apparently?) and is pretty weak. Not reliable for multiple targets (and a charge like this should moreso be a guaranteed group spike, honestly). Nice on the cooldown though.

    - Charm of The Wind: Guess it's vaguely interesting but weaksauce and its a bit of an oddity, of these expensive 350 cost devices, in that the cooldown is way too high (its the same as the summons). It was maddening just testing it, waiting for it to come off cooldown. 4 minutes is once-in-a-blue-moon level, which is pretty much in the territory of forgetting about it after 1 use at the beginning of an instance, maybe.

For an offensive item to have a long cooldown it should be a good spike of damage - a weaker maintain is better maybe around the 45 second to a minute range, I'd say, to have any sort of rotational attraction.

I get the longer cooldown on summons - I see a consistent pattern of 4-odd minutes on many devices. Maybe a bit high, but it's logical for players to save those for certain sitches.

    - Rhino Helm - Seems interesting overall, though I haven't gotten to try it yet. It might not be reliable as a lunge group to group, but for those that didn't fit in a lunge in a build or certain ATs, it's definitely better than doing without!

I did try it out, and-... I mean, I don't wanna sound unappreciative, but at the speed it lunges you forward currently, it's hardly worth the Recognition cost or even the Device slot. X) It seems to be about the same speed as simply flying towards the enemy normally, not like the speedy zip forward in actual Powerset lunges. The knockback could be handy, though, I suppose.
Dasher@Tool-box, donning his armor to prance into battle and blitz the enemy! No joke!
Cupid@Tool-box, stunningly radiant stag ready to play matchmaker between villain and arrow!
Vixon@Tool-box, frighteningly eager to summon despair for his adversaries!
Jebin Zedalu@Tool-box, elementalist weaponmaster. ...One of these things is not like the others!

Well, if nothing's changing from here on out for SCR acquisition, I hope that whatever new content that's being planned is something we can easily run through in a short amount of time. It doesn't have to reward much SCR, just be something we can quickly and casually do as much as we like on our own.

I still recommend Unity 1's normal missions have their Overwatch Requirement taken away and have their cooldown timer dropped. They would fit the bill perfectly. Short, casual, only reward 1 SCR each. All that's left is to make it something we can just keep doing during the day. I don't think it would disrupt running the Special either. Maybe have it work so that Overwatch has to be completed for the day before allowing the normal stuff be available for infinite repeats that day. After that, it would be entirely up to the player's determination to collect SCR. No waiting for queues and daily-reset timers, no spending a good portion of playtime slogging through content for small reward, no need to be forced into a team if we don't want to.

Even something as small as a mini-Unity 1 after having completed the original Overwatch set for the day. Say that you would like to offer your services for UNITY a bit longer, and you get a smaller set of dailies. Maybe a set of 3 missions at the same 1 SCR per mission. We'll say that Villains are constantly at work across the globe. If we wanted to push our heroes to go the extra mile, why limit us on how many assignments we can do for the day? Boom, extra set of 3 missions that we can repeat to the end of time... or at least until tomorrow's daily set comes around.

Something small and casual we can operate on our own with, even if only for minimal reward.

    Let's see;
    • UNITY 1 and 2
    • Alert Daily will give SCR
    • Special Alert Daily
    • Rampages will give SCR
    • You can convert Mechanon tokens down to SCR
    • Each boss in Teleios Ascendant will drop SCR
    • Sky Command will have a chance of extra SCR

Not sure if that is everything but I am pretty sure there will be multiple sources to get SCR and not just one.

Let's be honest, what you are describing/requesting is not casual play at all, but just a way for someone dedicated to it to be able to farm SCR through soloable gameplay.

Here is a quote from the recently posted annoucement about the Teleios Ascendant Rewards which can be found here:

"Silver Champion Recognition has also received some changes.
The means of earning the currency has shifted from solo-play to more team-oriented activities.
Players can now earn Silver Champion Recognition through Alert dailies, Lairs, Rampages, Adventure Packs, and Unity missions."

The shift of SCR being obtained more readily from team-oriented content is on purpose. I'd be all for more ways of getting the rewards that could fit what people want to do and how people want to play, but I wouldn't hold my breath for a change like this since the devs have already made their intentions quite clear. It's great that any SCR at all will still be available through the UNITY missions. If people don't like team content, they can still just do the UNITY daily at the cost of it taking a lot longer to build up SCR.

OH OH! and don't forget that you CAN solo adventure packs and lairs if you want to for SCR and also get questionite (from adventure packs), so people who just want to solo content actually do have options. :o

Sure you can solo things, it just makes the long mindnumbing grind that much more mind numbing. It's also not very alt friendly. Shifting from solo play to korean grindfest team play hasn't gone well for other games, I doubt it will work out well for this one.

I meant it hasn't gone well, major shifts such as these tend to alienate or push players away, especially when it's a complete 180 degree change.

Serious question: Which game/games(specifically MMOs) transitioned from your basic, "Welcome to Endgame...Here's your starter kit armor," game that encourages players to have multiple toons(sometimes in the 10-100+ range) to slowing that system down by multiples by, for the most part, encouraging players to go back and "rediscover" new content that has been alter.....wait...that has mostly been unchanged since introduction(bugs and all)?

    ----------------------------

Usually, in my experiences, when this kind of thing happens there are new drops, variations, and/or improvements with the lil "It's time to rediscover the things you used to do" slogans. I mean, let's be frank, Unity not only has never been expanded upon but(a mistake IMO) they added a second one of the things that's completely independent of the 1st and put it's entrance behind a mountain of missions. Many of the playerbase express boredom and negativity with Unity(and never even find Unity 2) within a month of discovering it. Now, I am not one of those players. I might be strange but I find U/U2 to be kinda relaxing and it's easy to chat while annihilating them. That Unity cannot sustain itself for a month after existing for 6 years is saying something. Ok, let's be more realistic....that it has not recieved a single mission in that time...is a testament to the original dev team's "Classic Kid in a Candy Store(Chase The Shiny!!!) Old Design Philosophy." The only thing really changed in this system was the reward tables a few times and now it would appear that the Starter Gear got an upgrade without...uhm...getting an upgrade?

And that upgrade thing is another point...let's not. The age old concept of upgrading armor treadmills is cute and all but it's kinda been done. I'm far more in favor of sideways progression with neat proc effects, set bonuses, and such. Having said that, Heroics are the Starter Kit for Endgame. They should be the baseline and, especially for new players, should not be a big deal. Sideways expansion provides more variety of options without the downside of further trivializing existing content.

And...yeah...ok, I think that's enough for now. I'll conclude with my opinion that the expansion of the game is good but the seemingly radical repurposing of old stuff while it remains old just..I dunno...blah?

In the end...the price of bacon just went up but the pig didn't even get any lipstick...or a bath. :p

Let's not forget.. all of these changes have just occurred at the beginning of a new year. We aren't even two months into 2016.

This is a pretty aggressive series of changes to make in such a short time. Which probably indicates, this isn't the end of it and there is more stuff coming. To me, it just looks like the Dev team is laying down the foundation for more to come. I've been pretty sure since late last year that the new team was going make big changes to CO. I still think so.

I remember the last time they laid down the foundation for more to come. It was called On Alert and we never got those new mini zones, Moon zone and two level cap increases in the long run.

It is fact that anything new they add considering ground work is always abandoned. This won't be any different.

Welcome to the "More Things to Buy" update.

    \
How about this. You can process Q-essence (again) for the following results:

    Common: 50 Questonite +7% catalyst
    Rare: 200 Questionite + 10% catalyst
Very Rare: 500 Questionite + safeguard catalyst

This may requrie some work to ensure that nodes always go away so they can't be repeatedly farmed for Q.

I've only ever managed to collect a total of 5 Q essences in my entire time playing.. this reward ratio seems very stingy.
I do UNITY pretty often and can always find at least one Q-essence per run of the dailies. You just need to know what to look for, and listening to the sound effects helps.

You weren't trying then. There's guaranteed one per set of Unity dailies (admittedly, there's no reason to try and hasn't been since the removal of old crafting; IIRC you needed them for crafted travel powers).

It's fine guys. You don't have to grind for Heroic gear. Your starter set of gear is now going to come from Nemcon, Andrithal, and Bronze King. You'll be able to get them just as quick as you did Heroic Gear.

I mean, if you're doing the usual "hit 40 then start a new character" thing, then it's not as if the gear level of those alts that you left behind is that big of a concern. On the other hand, if you only want to play a few characters, and none of them are level 40 yet, then to you it won't even be as if it takes longer to get Heroic, because you never got Heroic gear before, and the rate of 1 piece per week won't really be different from the other MMOs you've played.

Basically, you can't just let this gear be so quickly acquirable because "some people have altitis and have hundreds of alts and are constantly making more". Those people aren't making a particularly good case for why they even need the gear quickly.

Personally, I think 15 SCR per AP run would be a good number for the time it takes to finish an AP, and that's the primary change I would make.

*wonders how many people will actually bother to grind for heroic gear once this patch goes live*.

No seriously, I'd love to see data on that. I'll be entertained if that number is zero.

It'll be at least 1  in fact, after these changes I'm going to be grinding SCR more than I was before.

Sorry to trash your entertainment

Farming SCR is not the same thing as farming Heroic gear. I'm sure plenty of people will farm SCR for the costume pieces which are newly available this way. But why would you farm Heroic gear, specifically, harder after the change? "4x as much effort for the same thing, that'll totally make me get it more" - said nobody ever.

The shift of SCR being obtained more readily from team-oriented content is on purpose. I'd be all for more ways of getting the rewards that could fit what people want to do and how people want to play, but I wouldn't hold my breath for a change like this since the devs have already made their intentions quite clear.

This is actually kinda disheartening. I'm not sure I appreciate this turn as a mostly solo player.

What else should I expect right? I should find myself a single player game instead of an MMO.

"Interrupted by movement" needs to die and be replaced by Self Root. Interrupting my power being activated because I moved myself or am being repelled is disrupting combat flow. PLEASE, kill it now.

Please convert currently owned UNITY merits into Gold Recognition because UNITY merits were simply a pain to acquire back in the day and the equivalent is what we are getting with this new system for basically the same content.

    I agree!
Interrupted by movement is the reason Focused Shot bugs and interrupts itself (not like you would like to use this power, its inferior to Sniper Rifle)

It is a common mechanic in video games. It keeps a tank like player from being able to just revive everyone else each time the rest of their team is down. Otherwise, actually losing becomes impossible as long as that player can go around reviving everyone. The revive is meant to be used away/out of combat.

Not all the MMOs I have played used this stupid mechanic!
and its really punishing for non-healers and characters WITHOUT a shield who have a Ressurection power to assist teamates

Like in Cybermind, I was trying to revive my fallen members and I got spammed by Cybermind and his Drones, I couldn't finish charging the power! onion-15.gif

Seems CO has entered CoH's screw the solo player death spiral.

But CoH never had that mentality so....and also CO doesn't either, this change is just a bit too much for gear two tiers lower,
Buffing everything to stupid high levels and nerfing everything to piss poor levels yields the same results, but not the same community reactions.

Only reason why I think 10 is reasonable is because you can steamroll it if get together a group on Normal and it's relatively easier with Regular variants of entities compared to Alerts, what's the Biggest threat you vs against? (With the exception of End of Resistance, although you do have help) Super Villain (Tough) with a team? Yeah... 20SCR would be a bit much as Farm Bait compared to other methods but I do agree 15SCR would be a decent compromise only because of time taken, Maybe incorporate difficulty as a factor? Otherwise it's fine.

Want to get to know me a bit better, Click me and take a read of My Dragon Profile Page, it's a bit dated but still relevant.

I take this quote from a review that I agree with.

"customisation is so linear; everyone is after the optimal dps:survivability ratio with 0 reliance on other players = autonomous gameplay... Players don't need each other anymore... which in my opinion is a bad thing."
