We intentionally made the Gravity Driver power a mid-rarity item that is both tradeable and an account-wide unlock because we knew doing so would give players who purchase lock boxes for vehicles & costumes plenty of extras to give away, trade and sell to other players. I do not expect that this item will be cheap, but I would be surprised if it was as expensive as previous lock box items on the exchange.
- Lady Gadfly, she who is surprised to see people attribute male pronouns to her in spite of her name.
Hmm.... this is interesting. So, this power is targeted toward players who purchase lockboxes for vehicles and costumes. What about the players who DON'T purchase lockboxes because they drop at a decent rate during gameplay....like this lockbox event for instance? Why would you be surprised if it becomes expensive? You have just said it yourself; it is a mid-rarity item put behind a lockbox. If you take the time to look at the items in the AH for sale, you would realize that such items are expensive, especially when it comes from a lockbox. Will this be the new trend for future powers; hide them behind a lockbox and fill the AH with more expensive goods? In my opinion, you would be better off charging 10 dollars for this power as you have done with certain costume sets. The price may not sit well with the player community, but at least it would be available to ALL players. Unless, of course, this power is not intented for all players...
I've made my piece with the "power in the lockbox" thing. Because it's the only way we're ever getting new powers. It won't be the last and my guess is the key sales they get from this will be an incentive to do it again. Kind of like when vehicles first came out.
And there you've just accepted that CO is now an online gambling venue. Never before have core gameplay features become lockbox exclusive.
This isn't just a ****you to gold members and LTS holders, this is an ****you to every player whether they can see it right in front of them or not.
And what will not accepting do exactly? Because there is absolutely no way this isn't happeing. We can stomp our feet, turn blue, and wave our hands like muppets. In the end of the day - no one at Cryptic cares. That's obvious from how it was announced.
Because there will be enough whales who will spend a ton of money. And in the end cash talks and everything else is just a bunch of noise.
Even if every person who hates this (and trust me.. I'm not 100% for it) quit today - it wouldn't matter. The money that would be made will outweight it.
FYI - I put my money where mouth is and cancelled my sub today.. what did you do besides have a tantrum?
Since this can be kinda hard to follow since they don't close or archive these things anymore and the new forums are pretty blah to navigate I thought I would make this nice little post and mention that this thread is dead.

Uh, yeah, Cryptic has been doing this for a while now.
Want to get some of the best ships (thus, power) in the game in STO with the best slottable abilities (some of which are EXTREMELY powerful and that EVERYONE wants)? They're in lockboxes, just like they are in CO. Same goes with Z-Store ships, too (although yes, you can directly buy those and thus directly increase your player's overall 'power').
NW I have no idea about as I don't play that game.
