I'm just of the mind that peanut butter candy is better than all other kinds of candy. I do not discriminate further.
I understand the concern, but personally I can't see it as anything more than a real mild annoyance. The fact that people dropped regularly-read comics from their pull lists was odd to me. My brother works at a comic store and he said they didn't have anyone drop the books. But they were, at first, taken way aback when they first saw the issues with the ad. The first thing they did, actually, was count the number of pages of content. Once they saw readers weren't given less, they just shrugged it off. That's how I'd expect most people to react. (I just learned this last night while talking to my bro.)
Turns out that these ads weren't made just for comics. They've been in magazines as well, which regularly have ads all over the pages anyway, so no one even batted an eyelash at it.
The ad is annoying because the guy in the add looks like an annoying smug git -_-"
I mean whats he got to be smug about? He is doing comic book Twix ads , his mom must be proud :P
Just imagine him thinking to himself "I don't even have to do this photoshoot because I make more money than you do by sitting on my **** doing nothing but collecting royalties from the years I spent singing about girls."
I don't doubt mama is proud.
Wait is that like an aging boy band member? Mother of Zod that just makes the add 1000% more arse -_-
Had to go look him up. Apparently he was in a band called 98 Degrees, of whom I vaguely recall hearing; he also seems to have released some solo albums. He was in a "reality" TV show with his then-wife, Jessica Simpson - you might have heard of her trying to figure out on the show why the can she held said "Chicken of the Sea" when it contained tuna, not chicken. And he had a recurring role on the old TV show Charmed. Currently he makes his money by singing, appearing on shows on MTV and VH1, and making ads that tick off comics fans.

So no redeeming factors at all then. And folk wonder why this add annoyed so many people.

I'd say both, honestly, but I make no bones about being anti-corporate.
So you're basically against businesses? If you were to start a business, would you only want to make profit as long as it pays for all your business expenses and then your personal living expenses? Because making an extra buck is "corporate greed" instead of providing people with a good paycheck so they can live comfortably for giving you their services?

Sheeps follow unquestioningly, buying whatever is supplied to them. With prices for print going up, people may also question for printing what their mony are spent.
There will be even less excuses when ads will start appearing in digital releases. Though, actually, digital releases are prepared from the same files with prints.
A press article is not the same as a sequence of image panels. Nor a comic book is exactly the same as magazine.
With raw text you can cut it and shift around basically as you fancy.
The only people who will see any extra buck out of this will be executives and editors. Incidentally, not the people charged with making it work by rearranging pages they are working at.
Now, that's provided there will be extra buck, and that's not just DC trying to stay ahead of inflation. For an example. But then, if for any reason DC needs band-aids, it's only their problem. Marvel had some rises in prices and IDW cut a few pages in their books, so it's a pattern.
But then, every publisher deals with things as they see fit and deals with the outcome on their own.
Maybe if DC wasn't cancelling their titles at the rear end of Nu52, nuking books that had like 20k+ readers and were growing they wouldn't be now in situation where their Super- and Bat- families must be making more with ads to keep it everything going. Even Marvel with their own branch of greed keps titles like that if they're not losing sales rapidly, let alone when they're growing.
All DC is going through right now is an effect of their own policies, so no real sympathy here. They're grown ups. If they think they can take a small fallout, obviously they can.
All what people cancelling DC off of their pull list are doing (albeit I doubt if it's a really massive movement) is what every consumer has a right to do. They're not content with the company's policy, so they stop spending. It may be an overreaction, but it's also the only real way for readers to voice their opinion.
I'm against business cutting quality and standards to increase profit.
Which is almost any corporation's M.O. these days.
I'm against the sort of jackasses who raped my birthplace for its resources then left the people to live in the wastes with all the health problems and poverty its caused - for decades now - and to keep them dependent destroyed any other notion of how to make a living in them.
"Giving people a good paycheck"? Don't make me bloody laugh.
I freely admit to socialist sentiment - socialist, not communist - and in fact would without shame consider and call myself socialist. But the economic model I endorse is far more 'welfare capitalist' in the vein of Ford - mutual profits, with tight standards to check corporate excess.
DC isn't cutting quality or standards in this deal. They sold ad space that had different dimensions but equal are that all other ads do.
And what's laughable about giving people a good paycheck? You think this doesn't happen because of "corporate greed"? I worked for a company that raised my wages when business was good and gave me a generous yearly bonus as well. So, not really getting your point there.
Well that's all opinion. Plenty of people didn't care and don't think the quality is lower.
And I don't even know what a pro-corp lobby is. I'm not pro corporations or anti corporations. To me it's just a thing that is. And your point of view seems to be "some are terrible so they all must be."

The Twix ads don't even near compare to the kind of "corporate evil" that you're describing. Talk about an exaggeration.
Unless its clearly evident that the ads are forcing writers to cut down on panels and partitioning the story across more issues than necessary just because the ads are taking up the space, then objectively quality and standards have dropped and clearly the reader is being milked. If this sort of ad only happens for two pages maximum and isn't crammed into more then I don't expect this to be happening.
Nah, he's in the TV spots as well. Go on YouTube and search "left right Twix". He looks good and is in good shape.
Hah! In the videos with him in those specific outfits they were actually standies. Maybe that's why they look so odd: they took pictures of the standies for the comic ad (and flipped the Left Twix standy... or right one... the red shirt one, LOL).
That dude, Twix Lachey (i bet thats an artist name like Artist Named Some Weird Scribble) looks like a douche.
So he got a candy named after him.
Meh.

"Science teaches us to expect -- demand -- more than just eerie mysteries. What use is a puzzle that can't be solved? Patience is fine, but I'm not going to stop asking the universe to make sense!"
So it's less about having more bucks and more about staying afloat.
Thing is, this is actually a valid explanation why they can't avoid such measures, liking it or not. This or DC nuking even more books certainly is a better reason than this previous PR weaksauce.

It's not always about just staying afloat. DC just faced a pretty big loss (underselling by two million dollars), and so they're upping the ads, as well as implementing other cost-saving measures. The "previous PR weaksauce" isn't connected to this. They probably didn't expect this to happen, or they would have implemented more of these measures to soften the blow. But since they couldn't see the future...
Biff, just wanted to let you know that as of this morning (when I purchased the Digital Aura Pack to round the character out), Twix Lachey, former lead singer for 86 Degrees, is out in the world as the Other One (backup plan for the One, who tried to escape the Matrix only to be caught in the secondary illusion of a freedom fighter in a grubby postapocalyptic world).

I see Foxi is trying to be annoying by posting a giant Pinkie Pie pick. Thing is its much easier to find a Pinkie Pie pic thats 100% more obnoxious without increasing the size. All you need to do is find one with an extra simple component.

Oh, and would have worked way better as an insert, especially since it's on the staple-end pages anyway.

The worst part of this is reducing page rates for the creators. That's gotta be harsh.
