I'm trying to get creative with the Roin'Esh weapons. She's meant to be a ninja attuning her chakra with the wood element to partly transform herself into a plant... or something.
What color should the blades be anyway? I tried to make them look like bare wood at one point. I didn't like how that turned out. I'm aiming more for looking like thorns. What color seems to convey thorns best? I'm not making them the same color as the vines.
I'm not sure what to do with the belt. So many options clip into the pants I've selected. Even the ones that seems intended to match them. The meeting with the shirt seems awkward without any belt. It also seems weird if the belt doesn't fully cover the white band around the waist of the pants. I'm kind of cheating here by having the band of the belt blend into the band at the top of the pants.
What would be a good name for this character? I assume Thorn will already be taken. Or it might be restricted because of the existing comic book character. Ether way, I don't think I'll get to use it.
I'm considering using the punching stuff from might. Hopefully, it will wind up looking like a sort of thrust. I've got lots of options though, because I made sure to get all of the invisible weapons during FoxbatCon. What power sets look good with Roin'Esh weapons?
Here's the costume file. I hope Photobucket didn't muck up whatever the game uses to store the data.

VERY neat concept, though.
If you don't want to use Thorn (it cannot be 'taken' by another player but it COULD be restricted because of copyright or presence in game).... then perhaps something like:
* Blackbriar (I have a character named Greenbriar but feel free to use that --- Blackbriar just SOUNDS better, I think DOES sort of indicate a black color scheme, or a dark philosophical nature perhaps)
* Brambles (kind of has a silly connotation to it, I think)
* Woodspur
I thought about using "Thorn Hands" and translating it into a foreign language... but for French, anyway, it's "Thorn Mains"... and Spanish is "Thorn Manos"... I'd suggest the name MANOS (hands) but there's a DC Comics Legion of Superheroes villain by that name.
Esperanto would be "Dorno Manoj"... doesn't exactly roll off the tongue. In Hmong, it's "pos Ob txhais tes".... which i have no idea how you would pronounce ---- weren't the Hmong featured in a Champions pen-and-paper supplement? Anyway... in Swahili we get "Mwiba Mikono"... again, not something the tumbles freely from the mouth and pretty much suggests a character from the African continent.
As for the belt, did none of the "wrap" styles that generally go with the Asian themed outfits work? There's a Persian WRap that has a little dangly bit in front tha tmight hide the waist seam (but might clip with the pants). I think there's a "Gi" belt piece in addition to a separate Gi Short Skirt option.
Do you have the Steel Shadow set? I think it has a sash that'd work well for what you need, and a more ninja esque pair of sandals.
I had to set her skin color to green, then give her a full mask to get her face colored like real skin, then use one of the toy patterns on the mask to simulate eyebrows. The mask is essential, since nothing I could think of made for a passable facsimile of a mouth.
Enough complaining though. Yes, the texture should work for a wood or thorn look if I can make up my mind about a color. Something brow or tan could work. Yellow-ish is also promising. I'm a little worried about going toward orange or red. Actual rose thorns can be bright red, but it somehow didn't look very plant-like when I tried it.
Players aren't restricted from using names other players are already using? I just kind of assumed when I had names rejected that didn't correspond to any comic characters or NPCs I was aware of. Maybe I'm just really ignorant on comic books. I didn't even know Thorn was a character until she came up in an image search I was doing to try to get an idea of the color of thorns.
The sash clips into gi pants slightly at the hips. If I make it red it's not too noticable. Ninja wrap and sword clips in less, but it seems weird to give a normal sword to someone whose shtick turning her hands into living swords. Rope tie leaves a lot of the white stripe uncovered. Martial arts belt leaves just a bit of the white stripe showing. It seems to be fine if the belt itself is white or at least has a white boarder. I'm slightly worried about that belt being taken as a signifier of rank though. All the Persian belts clip into gi pants, most of them severely.
I don't have any steel shadow costume pieces. Are they only available through lockboxes? I'm not too keen on lockboxes.
Here's my revised version:
The blades look pretty good as they are --- sort of like "green" thorns, as in not mature or old but freshly grown. The notches in the blades helps sell the 'natural' look to it quite well, too. That belt looks fine in this picture but I can't tell if it clips.
As to the names... you'd be surprised how many names are already "taken" by copyrighted characters. But if a name ISN'T copyrighted then it doesn't matter if another player has the same name (although some players get bent out of shape if "their" name is used by someone else, the odds of meeting another person with the same name seem slim).
Wikipedia says that thorns, spines and prickles (all plant defensive mechanisms) are called spinose structures... although it may be too "scientific", perhaps the name Spinosa would work. Words that end in a vowel traditionally seem like female names to me. It is Latin for "spiny", although there is the risk people will think you mean SpinoZa, a Dutch philosopher.
Group A: black, blood, crimson, poison, rose, wild, wood
Group B: bramble, brier, burr, flower, nettle, rose, spur, thistle, thorn
I just checked, as I probably should have before, and Thorn is available. I'm kind of thinking maybe Bloodthorn, Rosethorn, or Wild Rose, but I'm still open to suggestions.
I did try the Clown Creepy face, but I couldn't quite get everything covered up. I hadn't thought of Holoforce. I'd need bangs or a headband to cover up the top ridge, but the bottom ridge can be covered up with Cowl Tight. I might use that for an alternate costume.
Also, the Devil tale is automatically skin colored too, so I might wind up needing these tricks on a future character as well.
I like the design you went with I think it's fine as it is.
the latin name for Christmas Rose is Helleborus niger - Black hellebore.
sounds nice until you look up the name.
Foxglove has lovely flowers.
The fact that the entire plant including roots and seeds is poisonous doesn't change it.
then there's Belladonna or deadly nightshade, which is a weed. I have the stuff in the backyard carefully fenced off.
here's a list of Poisonous plants. Note; some of these are actually female names too.
GI skirt is under belts.

Anyway, I decided to try out some different colors. And also different hair. Any feedback?
I'd especially like suggestions for the colors of her hair highlights. What colors make good accents with purple and green?
Here's a costume file, if that helps.

If it matters to you, the "five elements" in Japanese philosophy are different from those of Chinese. Chinese philosophy uses Wood, Earth, Fire, Water, and Metal; while the elements for Japanese are Water, Earth, Fire, Wind, and Void. You could make your character a lin kuei ("forest demon" or "forest ghost"), the Chinese equivalent of the ninja, for essentially the same conceptual connection. (Although the historical veracity of the lin kuei is highly disputed, they've become something of a modern martial arts pop-culture fixture.)
Given all of the above, I would suggest calling your character, Forest Demon.
Right now, I'm leaning towards giving her the name of a specific type of rose. Roses are a nice mix of hazardous and alluring that I think I'd like to associate with the character. The name “Rose,” however, is too generic. It turns out that “China Rose” is the name of a pretty famous type of rose. Maybe I'll say that her fellow Forest Ghosts gave her the nickname Yueji, and she translates it when operating in this part of the world.
Here is a good summary of the "history" of the lin kuei. The first two pages of this thread on the "Bullshido" website discussion forum, is the only discussion of the provenance for the forest ghosts I could dig up.
FWIW the lin kuei do exist, or did exist, in the Champions Universe. A master assassin-for-hire named Xiu Kwan (Martial Enemies Vol. 1) believes himself to be the last of the lin kuei, because the man who trained him in his mystic martial arts told him that he was. Whether that's true or not is left open.
And the first hairs looked better to me, but maybe its just the angle of the image. The purple color scheme is very good looking.
If you want flowers (roses) as decorations check out the pieces from the Fairy-something costume set (Z-store). It has plenty of flowers to use as further decoration.

Say, how do a white scarf and belt look?
I feel like a white scarf opens up more options for hair highlight colors.
Pity that the hand slider does not change the size of the swords. The Forearm, perhaps?
