Free Form Characters for Long Time Gold Members

Edit: I just remembered why I never posted in the suggestions section any time sooner. It's possible to save Zen and get a Free Form slot with the monthly stipend. Just so all the typing I did won't go to waste, I'll leave it down there for people to read Please ignore this suggestion, unless people really feel like this is an awesome idea.


I've only played Champions Online as a Gold Member, off and on, since the game released back in 2009. It wasn't until some time last year, I think, that I started to notice how much it was costing me to constantly play on the old Pay to Play model.

I think it would be awesome if players were awarded a Free Form slot bonus for being Gold Subscribers for a certain amount of time, with extra Free Form slots added as players accumulate more subscription time.

This way, old veteran subscribers can continue to enjoy their favorite Free Form heroes when they're unable to subscribe to Champions Online.

I understand that we can buy free form slots, but I truly want to support this game by continuing to be a subscriber whenever it's financially possible for me to do so. I guess I'm just trying to think of a good bonus for having been a Gold Subscriber to the game for so long. I think this idea would attract players that haven't become Lifetime Members to subscribe to the game and support it in this way.

sounds counter productive to having people subscribe. I did the math i bought LTS after F2P when it was on sale that summer.
240/15 = 16
many more months later i still enjoy the subscription, and i got 8 extra slots and a new one with every 40. a much better deal than a single FF slot.
now at 100 characters and 73 40s i have all the toons i need. when i want a new toon i snipe a toon I'm bored with with a rename that i buy with my stipend.

Letting long time gold subs have a FF slot to use when they drop to silver sounds like a good way to keep people around. Flipping between gold and silver seems to be fairly common and what better way to make sure someone that drops to silver sticks around instead of leaving for another game than letting them keep accesses to one or two of their FF toons?

I bet it's a lot easier to come back to CO if someone knows they can pop in on their silver account with their favorite FF toon.

i always thought AT should be able to pick powers within their powerset. but multiple accounts subscribing 1 month then getting a ff is the real reason this will never happen

I wouldn't consider 1 month a "long time". One of the stipulations of OP's suggestion.

Considering FF slots are given away in unlimited amounts to subs and LTS, I doubt it would be an issue anyway. In fact, just having accounts start with 2 AT + 1 FF would go a long way to keep people around. Let's keep in mind that subbing isn't the point, spending money is. People don't spend money on a game they don't play. And I bet people who have a favorite FF toon that have to drop their sub don't bother playing CO much, if at all, until they can sub again. By then, they might have forgotten about CO for a new shiny game.

I don't see anything wrong with adding a FF slot that can be used while silver to something like the 100 day vet reward. That would probably be a better reward than odd-ball costume bits that are showing their age and those crappy healing things.
