Fortunatus: Okay, I'm doing something wrong here... (Telepathy DOT)

You might have seen me playing my telepath, Fortunatus, in alerts. You'll recognize me easily: I'm the one constantly mashing the 'recover' button, picking myself off the ground only to do it again ten seconds later. You know, the deadweight. Obviously I'm doing something wrong.

The idea for the character started out as an attempt to use the new Telepathy DOT powers released last year. Well, it works well in solo PvE, but only because I get to use Ego Sleep on mobs. In Alerts, well, it leads to constant floor-munching. (I swear, I had Blasters in another game who ate less floor.)

I guess this was my attempt at making a controller, and finding out the hard way that you can't make controllers in Champions Online (thank you Cryptic). Because that's how I try to play the character, and it just does not work, expecially in Alerts. (Where powers like Ego Sleep may as well not exist.)

Here's the build, as it is, at 29th level. Powerhouse Build

Here's an attempt at making a better version of the build. Powerhouse Build 2

At this point I'm not sure what I want with the toon. Control powers would be nice. I'm kind of tired of straight damage making me a huge target and I can't grab aggro worth a damn as a tank.

Only form of control that really holds up in PvE grouping are stuns w/ Manip- everything else tends to get broken too easily w/ damage. Holds can work, but only on targets not getting hit at all- which is of dubious use in pugs.

Since TP has no good stuns, that means outsourcing. TK Maelstrom is also Mentalist, and very good at group lockdown w/ Manip. Thunderclap and Sonic Arrow are also good AoE stuns.

There's a couple of ways of going about this. Here's one using Ego Blast's Mind Opener for good dmg and debuffing all around, but also w/ a threat wipe:

    PowerHouse (Link to this build)

    Super Stats:
    Level 6: Presence (Primary)
    Level 10: Constitution (Secondary)
    Level 15: Intelligence (Secondary)

    Talents:
    Level 1: The Glacier
    Level 6: Healthy Mind
    Level 9: Shrug It Off
    Level 12: Diplomatic
    Level 15: Quick Recovery
    Level 18: Negotiator
    Level 21: Lasting Impression

    Powers:
    Level 1: Psi Lash
Level 1: Ego Blast (Rank 2, Mind Opener)
    Level 6: Telepathic Reverberation
    Level 8: Manipulator
Level 11: Ego Form (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 14: Shadow of Doubt (Rank 2)
    Level 17: Conviction (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 20: Mental Storm (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 23: Telekinetic Maelstrom (Rank 2, Rank 3)
    Level 26: Masterful Dodge
    Level 29: Palliate (Absolve)
Level 32: Ego Sleep (Plagued by Nightmares)
Level 35: Mental Leech (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 38: Ebon Void (Rank 2, Voracious Darkness)

    Travel Powers:
    Level 6:
    Level 35:

    Specializations:
    Presence: Repurpose (3/3)
    Presence: Dominion (2/2)
    Presence: Moment of Glory (3/3)
    Presence: Vulnerability (2/2)
    Sentinel: Torment (2/2)
    Sentinel: Sentinel Aura (3/3)
    Sentinel: Moment of Need (1/3)
    Sentinel: Wither (2/2)
    Sentinel: Genesis (2/2)
    Guardian: Fortified Gear (3/3)
    Guardian: Ruthless (2/2)
    Guardian: Find the Mark (2/3)
    Guardian: The Best Defense (3/3)
    Mastery: Sentinel Mastery (1/1)

Ur bonus healing should be pretty strong in this build. Once ya get lvl 40 w/ sentinel mastery, things should get much easier.

TP DoT characters tend to eat it in Alerts pretty easily due to most of their attacks being AoE and, obviously ticking fairly quickly. It's a very dichotomous playstyle going from soloing and not being touched, to jumping in an Alert and holding back until you're pretty sure someone else has the Threat.

Flowcyto is right. When it comes to control in Alerts - stuns are the way to go.

You might want to check out this YouTube video of Cyrone's Kr'anri build stun-controlling some Alert Mobs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJJn7QeeUk4

He also provides a link to the build as well. I ran a version of this build for a while and it was fun. It's pretty much the only way to run a reliable controller build in CO, that gets results.

I got tired of it and retconned out of it, because I just got more mileage out of a DPS telepathy build with healing - than from a straight controller build.

    Good Luck

Edit.. it looks like Cyrone has an updated version of this build, that takes advantage of Mental Storm here:
