1989: About time it came up.

It's about time a musical discussion came up... Funny I never found much around. Anyways, 1989 is the new Taylor Swift album released on 27th October 2014 , exactly a week ago. And it has been having a large success streak. There are possibilities it may break the records for the largest numbe of sales in a week, though indeed, the week isn't over yet. The current record being held by Eminem's "The Eminem Show" .

Well so anyways, I got the album as a very belated bday gift from my best friend who knows how much I love Taylor Swift. And I must say, when I heard she was gonna try out pop, I was like "Oh damn, I think she just screwed up her future". But now I am like "Dang, this is a whole new world."

And I am serious when I say that I didn't expect her to be so great at pop. Especially with some new styles and combos like "New Romance" , "Style" and "I have been in places". Not to mention how impromptu and awesome the chorus was in "I have been in places". Yes, several songs in the album surpass the limits of "Shake it off" (which was amazing imo as the video satirizes several other artists and shows a whole new side of Swift, not to mention the 1980s music style blended with modern style. )

Well these are my opinions. What are yours?

I think the whole notion of "popular" music being a genre is fascinating.

Uhm... Because gaming a superhero game does not necessarily imply that none of listen to music?

So THERE it is. My buddy Schrodinger has been looking for that cat. I'm sure he'll be happy to see it's alive and well.

Then again, since it's Schrodinger's cat, who knows HOW he'll feel about it. { shrug } He's weird that way.

just like children like barney the dinosaur, teens like taylor swift. it takes a while to cultivate good musical taste.
but seriously it's extremely light and not very interesting, i can think of a ton of new stuff that's actually creative and worth listening to, and it's not taylors swift.

and now you can all teeny rage over what i said

But among celebrities, she has one of the best personalities. Not to mention that she is not as oversexualised as several other female singers.

I respect a celebrity not only for their art but also for their image and how they set as a role model. I find lady antabellum as the go-to when I want just the country-pop. Bruno mars if I want just the music. And within temptations if I want the rock symphony. It's not like I don't have musical taste but I have a celebrity taste. Besides we all know that not many celebrities respect their fans as much as Taylor Swift does! She spends at least an hour to meet her fans and talk to them before her concerts.

talyor swift dates half of hollywood and writes songs about her break ups. she is a classic attention seeker and drama queen. This is something that middle-schoolers do not grown adults. she is far from one of the best personalities among the famous. "Oh poor me why do all these mean people break my heart". she must be doing something wrong for it to happen that often. she is either a naive idot that keeps picking bad people and blaming others for her mistake or she is manipulative and attention seeking, either way she is nothing to be idolized. her music is simple and boring, maybe when she grows up she will make something good.

Most song writers writers write about their experiences. A good musician wears his heart on his sleeves. Besides she has dated 6 guys so that's kinda over exaggerating. She is a philanthrophist who has donated over 13.8 M . She is extremely fan friendly and is not a diva. As compared to other singers who have had several divorces or who oversexualise themselves, I call it a big difference . Besides music is a subjective term. For instance, I find Nora Roberts boring (very!) and lady antabellum interesting. Whereas its the reverse for some others. Besides, her new music is much better than her older ones! Shake it off is only one of the mediocre songs in her album. And that's just my opinion. I speak for myself here.

she is worth 180 million, it's called a tax write off. this is why rich people give so they keep more of their money. you use the word philanthrophist to freely.

Just out of curiosity though, what artist do you listen to?

    novaninja,

You are running into something that is as old as popular music. People older than you, who were told that the music they liked when they were younger was childish or somehow bad, are now passing that on to you.

Keep in mind that art and entertainment are completely subjective and anyone passing judgement on your preferences is saying more about themselves than about your favorite artists. Obviously, "I don't like artist X," is very different than saying, "artist X's music is childish and suitable only for middleschool children."

I am not a fan of Taylor Swift, but I don't think that anyone can effectively argue that some of my favorites, The Ramones for example, are inherently more mature or somehow superior.

'Caine, miss you bud. Fly high.

    artists not a singular

everything from Cannonball Adderley, Neko Case, The Pass, Empire of the Sun, Kimbra, Nitzer Ebb, Postal Service, Rilo Kiley, RAC, Antonio Carlos Jobim, The Decemberists, Archetecture in Helsinki, tune yards, just to scratch the surface, none of which has to do with superheroes.
if taylor swift writes a song about wonder woman, fine post it here, but dont start a trend of teeny pop postings that have nothing to do with the genre.

Wrong. Off-Topic, like all other Off-Topic forums on the entire internet, means anything and everything not having to do with the main theme of that forum. That means everything not directly related to Champions Online.
