It doesn't have to be. Given that I run only female characters, it's what I had to work with and where my inspiration came from. By all means, feel free to combine parts of male hairstyles as well.
To be clear, my request wasn't necessarily to have the ability to mix hairstyles in real time (though that'd be cool I guess) but to have new hairstyles created using combinations the existing assets. So the examples I created would just be three (new) different flavors of "ponytail" like "ponytail bangs", "ponytail wisps", "ponytail bangs long"

Enabling combining hairstyles is just easier to do than modeling new hairstyles. It's already possible, all what is needed is an UI change.
Completely new hairstyles is a new model and textures to do, even if it's made of two older models.
Hair with physics would be nice, especially for longer hairstyles. But considering how bad can be physics on things like capes... I'm not sure if CO engine can support it good enough.

Honestly, I'd go for whatever option would allow me to create that third hairstyle - the "punk long" + "ponytail" one, and that one's going to need a new model anyway. I had to cut away a good deal of the "punk" to reduce it to just "long bangs" so there'd have to be a different version of that hairstyle anyway even if we were going with the combining option. Also, I'd imagine there would be similar clipping issues with other combinations that would otherwise work with tweaking of one or the other of the hairstyles.
We could change the hairstyles without bangs to all have a secondary "bangs" option that appears when they're selected (like the visor options for the flight helmet) - then cycle through the various options.
Hair physics would be great as well, (technically, the plain "ponytail" already has them) but I was trying not to request anything that would require re-jigging the entire system.
Don't even need that - even WoW has moving hair now.
Ya but I mean call in the Skyrim modders to actually get it working. Who from WoW would come here? Their offices have furniture and comfortable chairs.
I'm all for this stuff; I know at least a couple 2D character generators that have separate options for things such as base hair, bangs, sides, back, and so forth. Not sure why most 3D games with character editing don't use that sort of flexibility; you'd think it'd be easier with the interchangeability of models.

I meant that it shouldn't be very difficult to do, if even WoW with its older engine base (some of its oldest coding reveals to be just WC3 with a groundlevel camera placement) can pull it off.
Let's not buy the Delorean before the doctor's banged his head on the toilet seat, folks.
Being able to mix and match hair styles would only really be possible if Cryptic created a second hair category containing the same hair models, so you could feasibly have two applied at once. This doesn't seem impossible (as with the monster heads you can easily have the Victorian hair and another hair even though normally they're in the same category as they're in two seperate entries with the newer releases), but it's really up to The devs' concerns over how many polygons are being rendered at once I suppose.
I think it'd be rad, but it might be more feasible for Cryptic to look at suggestions like this and release an pack of 'Hybrid Hairstyles' as a costume pack with multiple hair and hair-involving costume pieces merged, with optimised polygons so hidden stuff doesn't need to render.
And then if we do one day get a multiple hair at once option we can then use this pack for TRIPLE COMBOS.

Do one of pig tails combined with messy hair long or medium owo
Yeah that one ends up looking like a smashed buttock. The texture pattern for pigtails is different than the one for messy hair and the messy hair model is too "poofy" so it sticks out more than the pigtails.
In addition, if you started re-vamping hairstyles just like you did with tier-3 costume sets (for something closer to STO's hairstyles), I for one wouldn't mind paying for a hairstyles pack.

This would be REALLY Useful for me to archieve the hairstyles my character have and are not accessible ingame

Double hairstyles are awesome and I approve. Messy Medium + Mullet Long = "The Bowie"
