SURVIVABLE LEVELLING Gadgeteer Pet Support DPS Build

Following one of flowcyto's builds, I attempted to make a pet-controlling gadgeteer... but it's maddeningly frustrating. I keep dying ALL THE BLOODY TIME. I've run out of stars and resources to buy more. I've had enough.

What I need is a SURVIVABLE, I will say that again SURVIVABLE, pet gadgeteer build. If this build dies like the last one, I'll scrap it and ask again. It must be able to survive.

It must also be a levelling build, because I'm dumb and can't figure out how to put characters together in Champions Online. Isn't that ridiculous? Two years of playing this game and I can't figure out for the life of me how to put together my own builds. Yes, I read the posts other people make, and the information just runs together. I can't understand it.

Here's the build I was using.

PowerHouse (Link to this build)

Name:

Archetype: Freeform

Super Stats:
Level 6: Ego (Primary)
Level 10: Presence (Secondary)
Level 15: Dexterity (Secondary)

Talents:
Level 1: The Inventor
Level 6: Shooter
Level 9: Finesse
Level 12: Showmanship
Level 15: Wordly
Level 18: Lasting Impression
Level 21: Impresario

Powers:
Level 1: Sonic Blaster
Level 1: Pulse Beam Rifle (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 6: Entangling Mesh (Sapping Solution)
Level 8: Aura of Ebon Destruction (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 11: Attack Toys (Rank 2)
Level 14: Plasma Beam (Rank 2, Melta Cannon)
Level 17: Arcane Vitality (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 20: Inertial Dampening Field (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 23: Munitions Bots (Rank 2)
Level 26: Overdrive
Level 29: Support Drones (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 32: Ritual of Primal Summoning (Unbound Ritual)
Level 35: Ritual of Arcane Summoning (Unbound Ritual)
Level 38: Resurrection Serum

Travel Powers:
Level 6: Hover Disk (Rank 2, Rank 3)

Ego: Sixth Sense (1/3)
Commander: Rapid Response (2/2)
Commander: Create An Opening (2/2)
Commander: Multitasker (3/3)
Commander: Savage (3/3)
Sentinel: Caregiver (3/3)
Sentinel: Sentinel Aura (3/3)
Sentinel: Moment of Need (2/3)
Sentinel: Genesis (2/2)
Mastery: Commander Mastery (1/1)

I'm level 11 with this build and I can't handle it any more. It's just too frustrating to try to level. I'm out of stars and can't buy any more. I die CONSTANTLY in Alerts.

Well, at lvl 11 you have no healing powers and low defenses. You also don't have an EU or toggle yet so ur not gaining much energy- forcing ya to end build and that's weighing down how fast ya can take out mobs. Also, no Con SS isn't helping matters, and most builds will still get rocked if they pull aggro at lvl 11 in Alerts, besides (ur nearly at the entry lvl for the alert, so yes mobs will kick ur **** w/o much blocking if ya get aggro).

Here's a similar build ya can try- more dps oriented but has more healing/health early on and less energy issues (even easier survival option is replacing AoED w/ AoRP, but that will be a big dps hit):

    Level 6: Ego (Primary)
    Level 10: Constitution (Secondary)

    Level 9: Shrug It Off
    Level 12: Ascetic

    Level 18: Finesse
    Level 21: Shooter

    Sentinel: Moment of Need (2/3)
    Sentinel: Genesis (2/2)
    Commander: Rapid Response (2/2)
    Commander: Create An Opening (2/2)
    Commander: Multitasker (3/3)
    Commander: Savage (3/3)
    Mastery: Ego Mastery (1/1)

For gearing, can also get the Armadillo 2ndaries for a 25% DmgRes boost in the Q Store, which is nice when leveling.

That's odd, considering the first build is also yours, flowcyto.

    a) Not all builds are made for easy leveling (some aren't even technically possible at low levels)- ya shouldn't always assume that unless the poster states so.
    b) If ya took from the Petco guide, I made a variety of builds using as many diff themes and stat setups + roles as I could, that obv means going for concept over practicality in many cases, since I wanted to show of a wide range of powers being used (and frankly, there are numerous powers in this game that just suck, and not too many that are really good). I'd hope one would adapt them for their own goals and power prefs.

also, my posted gadgeteering-themed pet build in the guide was this:
    http://powerhouse.nullware.com/powerhouse.html?v=9&n=&d=1634UJOGMSHX1E0700073077C03M6007B03750536037Q037R037G007O01OC047P007U010mTQ0bXG0ecF

I'm not sure where the original you had came from.

edit: nvm I found it in an older thread:

    http://co-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=258181

That was actually adapting someone else's build- and just using it as a sample, cause in that thread I was going over different possible setups and powers (ie. the build posted wasn't meant to be the highlight).
If that were my toon now I would not have made the similar build & power choices as that player, but it was their build and concept- and I don't try to dramatically alter other people's builds unless I feel its really called for (since it could ruin their concept).
