1. I'm pretty sure I remember you had a complaint rant or two about how you didn't like that you had to level an AT from 1-40 to unlock stuff. (or were you saying that you have no complaints about the content however the AT / new powers is a "mechanic" and so not content?)
2. I'm pretty sure I remember a bunch of times where you have wanted them to add more unique and interesting mechanics in over just putting in balls of health to be considered content? >_>
Reminds me of that guy in one of the fresh prince of bel-air episodes who tells them to call him "whitey" they take it totally the wrong way until he says "because of my hair..." <_< (which had gone grey / white just to clarify :O )

1. In the parentheses.
2. Pretty sure interesting new mechanics meant new things to learn for fighting a boss, instead of just "DPS while standing here." Like if there was a boss who puts on an invincibility bubble and the only way to drop it is if each hero slaps one butt of another hero in the group that hasn't already had their butt slapped. THE CHAOS!

Yeah but they always said it in terms of the "trash mobs" to make them more interesting which is very true. I would consider mechanics content, mechanics are what the content is made up of unless the content is literally just a flat ground with a stationary ball in the middle that you can hit.
So seeing as how little "content but not mechanics" is referring to he doesn't really have no complaints about much.

as long as I get to choose whose butt I slap. there's a load of characters I wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole with contact poison on it.

Just saying...
It's true. The mechanics in fact are the content. Everything else is just dressing. You can tell because, well, just picture in your head if they released new content that had no mechanics in it... you're basically picturing a cut scene. Even the example you gave... a flat zone with a targetable ball in the middle, still has mechanics (in fact that's nearly all it has... bad example imp u3u).
Only place this doesn't apply is the tailor and power visuals, in which case the dressing is also a mechanic... but that's not what we were talking about here o3o
PS - Initially I thought you meant a physics enabled ball that we could kick around o3o and now I think it would be neat if there was a fight that involved debris that you had to push around for some reason
it sure is a mechanic. just not a gameplay mechanic.
It actually is a gameplay mechanic. The method for unlocking the new AT powers is "get to level 40". This is similar to the method to unlocking a door in a Resident Evil game, which is "get to the place where the key is". In both cases you're doing something in the game to fulfill the requirements of an in-game goal, which is a core gameplay mechanic in pretty much every video game ever made... hell, it's even a core mechanic of every analog game ever made as well. The specifics change, but the structure remains the same.
So, not only is Gradii correct in saying that it is a mechanic, he was actually a bit hasty in backing off from saying it was a gameplay mechanic, because it is in fact a core gameplay mechanic. Specifically in Champions Online, leveling up is quite possibly the most used gameplay mechanic the game has.
Spin it all you want but the complaint being made has nothing to do with how leveling works and everything to do with not wanting to do it while still reaping the rewards being offered for it. Trying to dress it up as some sort of a "mechanic issue" is just more smoke and melodrama for the pile.

You're both right. The complaint is a mechanics issue, but the issue is not about how the mechanic works. The issue is that Gradii doesn't want any game mechanics involved in unlocking powers. She wants them to simply be available to everyone like all the current powers are.
Also, Spinny, stop being so reasonable. You're about to lose your "designated troll" status.

Actually, that's the gist I got from it too. You don't want to have to level the AT to access the powers. Isn't that your beef in a nutshell? Not trying to argue, just sayin. That's really what your issue seems to boil down to. That's what I got out of your posts, anyway.
In game, I am @EvilTaco. Happily killing purple gang members since May 2008.
As a filthy silver player, I can't bring myself to caring about this new AT or any of the details about it. Mostly because there are no details. It has rocket punch! And, uh, yeah...
I'll wait to throw a fit until I actually play it. If I play it.
I'm much more disappointed that we're stopping Mechanon from getting rid of those shovey, irritating NPCs. Next time you get shoved away from the tailor, know that it's YOUR fault for not leaving our mechanical overlord alone.

It's not spin, it's definition. It is a gameplay mechanic.
I'm sure you already know my thoughts on "I hate being forced to play the game" type complaints though.
Prepare your butt holes everyone - this might be how all future new powers in the game are unlocked for FF use
if you're an organic, you'll also die a painful death if you don't stop him.
if you're a machine, you'll eventually have your computer core overridden and fall under his control, and if for some reason he cant control you, he'll have you destroyed.
There's no logical connection between a few civilian annoyances finally dispatched and less chance in fighting Mechanon in person, since civilians won't contribute to fight anyway.
Also, Mechanon isn't automatically capable to take over any machine he wishes.

That's not really what's going on. It's a negative opinion on the mechanic of unlocking those powers. For instance, in most games, to get the best gear, you need to join a guild and raid for weeks, months, whatever. I dislike that. It's not that I hate being forced to play the game to get the gear (because I just won't even try to get it), it's that it's only available through a game mechanic that I don't like.
I do like that in Champions, the best gear can be obtained through PUGing.
While I personally like the way this is set up (my opinion may change if the automaton is not fun, or just especially weak), it's perfectly fine to have the opinion that this will be tedious and no fun if you're forced to use a power set, or even a concept that you don't like.
this might be how all future new powers in the game are unlocked for FF use
Based on what was said in the article, they'll keep doing it like this if player response is good.
He tries since eighties to no avail.
I think my bots will be fine.
Oh, he ain't met Prime yet. He gonna.
Choose your enemies carefully, because they will define you / Make them interesting, because in some ways they will mind you
They're not there in the beginning, but when your story ends / Gonna last with you longer than your friends
I'm just sad Dei Machina probably wont be level 40 in time. since she's gonna be rolled into the new AT.
Are we even sure that that can be DONE? I mean it makes sense that you'd be able to do so, but it seems like it'd be quite the oversight on their part.
Or maybe you CAN but it might require you to have started the new AT to get the new powers.

I've been trying to chase down a developer to find the answer to this. I think it would cheapen the experience if you could just retrain over to it.
I really don't see the problem with leveling an AT.
I've just swapped 2 low level FF's to Inventor and Unleashed(?) because I couldn't remember what I was doing with the FF.
You forgot the complaints about those who are complaining as well as those who are offering feedback regarding the content.
The complaint about why those players who are complaining should be grateful or leave because people are expected to be one dimensional here.

For myself, I plan on leveling the RA from 1 to 40 so I'll have a good feel for how the powers work. Then, assuming there's more than one new power, I can decide which one(s) need to go on Happifun when I remake it as a FF.

The method of unlocking the new powers isn't a mechanic at all.
My only complaint is that people can't get their own complaints straight.

Anyhow, I fully expect I'll fail this mission few times only because I'll be in delight watching them burn.
Each time when I have to interact with MC civilian crowd I weep because they can't be attacked.
I'd start with Burt Jackson and end with Biselle.
There's no logical connection between a few civilian annoyances finally dispatched and less chance in fighting Mechanon in person, since civilians won't contribute to fight anyway.

My automatic thought was," how many people will simply retrain a level 40. rather than level the AT"

I can imagine support for this AT idea would me much, much lower if indeed everyone had to level it entire way from 1 to 40.

Nope, people have been mentioning it since the first day of the announcement.
