Tech Soldier

I wanted a tough, fast soldier that uses various gadgets, weapons, and support strikes to be effective but it comes out unwieldy due to all the different damage types they do and the lack of a ranged AE that I don't loathe entirely. I eventually settled on a recolored Epidemic even though the animation still doesn't fit and Epidemic is so good it tends to take over an entire build.

But still, calling in air strikes, orbital strikes, dropping gas pellets, and enhancing pulse beam rifle with devices on bosses is what I'd like to try, how he clears the trash before them is less important.

Went somewhat survival based in his specializations somewhat as I don't have masterful dodge or a threat wipe and while there is definitely more damage to be milked there, as Kenpo points out, durability and healing are the more important points of the durability/healing/damage triangle.

In any case, it's kind of a mess, but here's what I'm thinking so far.

Well, if ya want alternative AoE that can still fit some tech themes, ya can always try Electricity's AoE options, instead of having to shove an Infernal power in there.

Not sure I would fully agree w/ that concerning the 'triangle', at least def not for all content. Damage can still matter quite a bit. Depends on what ur going up against, really. Due to the way the passive dmg DR works in this game (esp for FFs) and how good CDR is, ya can pretty easily have tons of damage and w/ good survival and healing options.

One thing to consider, esp in light of Strafing Run, is using Exp Blaster w/ Death Ray taps over PBR so ya can take advantage of Avenger's Preemptive strikes for higher SR hits. Pretty easy to setup too- just tap the blaster before throwing out any SRs.

On-next hit powers dun interact well w/ gas pellets and SRs, since they aren't targetted- I'd prob drop at least one of them for Ego Surge/NM, LnL, or Nanobot Swarm. Orbital Cannon isn't really worth the hassle either, imo, but if ya like the looks of it then its fine. I'd prob would replace it w/ an AD or palliate/absolve.

Lastly, the dodge/avoid options in Dex PSS give poor return, and come at a high opportunity cost (crit sev and expose weakness are the best parts of that tree, aside from its mastery). If ur skipping the 2 good parts of the Dex tree for dodge/avoid, ya mine as well take Con PSS instead (or find a way to make Str PSS w/ Juggernaut work).

A gadget-esque solution to the AoE problem could be Ricochet Throw (or Throwing Blades, if you can live with the mandatory charge). Chuck those antigravity homing disks.

Yeah, swapping out the crap powers for ES/NM, MD, Palliate w/Absolve, and all the standards would definitely make the character better. I'm somewhat resigned to this one being bad just for the theme I want. I've got other characters to play when he frustrates me I guess. ^_^

So Deflection/Adrenaline Rush in Con work better defensively than Evasion/Quick Reflexes in Dex?

Combo'd w/ Resolute for knock resist from gearing Con and 40 more from PSS'ing it, yea I'd say its better. Con PSS has good synergy w/ Dex/crit due to Deflection and Adren Rush heals. AR heals can be like a mini-BCR/RR w/ decent enough crit%. FMF is also a bit of extra energy just for getting hit.
