So as me and my friends are currently being physically harassed and trolled while trying to have a conversation at the bar in Club Caprice, a thought occurs to me. I know changes to game systems aren't exactly on Cryptic North's agenda right now, but I think this change would have a profoundly positive effect on the game experience.
When you put someone on ignore, you immediately become invisible and inaudible to one another. The ignored player can no longer see or hear the ignorer, and vice versa.
(It would be good if both players were to become intangible to each other, but that's probably a harder task to code in)
How would this help? Simply by not appearing on each other's screen, anyone trolling or harassing the other party would find it very difficult, if not impossible. It's hard to barge into someone if you don't know where to barge into, for instance. Any offensive emote-spam would simply not register either. By doing this, there is a quick and easy way to eliminate people being offensive to you without needing to involve GMs every time, and the antisocial types who insist on doing this to get a rise out of other people would quickly find themselves running out of targets.
It's humane, it's quick and simple, and would help keep people happier. Please can we make this happen?
That's been suggested before and becomes rather bizzare when you are being pushed around by invisible forces in alerts and such.
Solution - invisi-ignore is switched off for the duration of the alert. In most cases neither party will notice, or if they do, they'll usually be more interested in completing the alert than bothering one another. If someone does decide to harass another player within the alert, they can just leave, and can queue for another alert - wouldn't be a major loss.
The ignored person can still affect you with devices, push you away from NPC's etc.. it would be even worse in some cases.
To reiterate - they cannot see you either. Obviously devices and powers would need to be invisible as well.
If making players intangible to each other is not possible, this would still work well - all the person being trolled needs to do is move away slightly and the troll will have real difficulty finding them again. And not being able to see the victim as well as not hearing them will make the trolling far less satisfying to do.
Pretty sure that for.. tech reasons, it cannot be done. A player can't be removed from the game on your screen. Even if made invisible, he's still targetable (just use /target xxx), and it's possible use the "follow" command on him, etc etc. Trust me, I wish it was an option, but trolls find a way around everything, especially in a game like this.
Well, someone suggested a while back an 'avoid' feature that is lighter in what it does- just prevents them from being thrown into random instances or groups with you. I wouldn't mind that at least. It is rather annoying to be forced to play alongside an ignored person or risk looking like an **** and dropping from the team cause of it.

I doubt that. Highly.
I believe those words aren't included in Cryptic Engine.
And playing by myself since Aug 2009
