In short - big character with bigger hitboxes will draw more aggro, because of shorter distance between them and mobs, while small characters will do the opposite.
Also, very small characters (minimal height, minimal leg size) using shrinkers would be very hard to target by clicking on them (and Tab targetting isn't reliable enough).
Make it so the hit boxes don't scale with char size, that would solve both the clicking issue and the aggro issue, also why not make the super mag/super shrink into auras? surely it'd be better than having them as a device
In all things, a calm heart must prevail.

Yeah some things are broken... no I don't use/abuse them.. where would be the fun in that?
Your character still is clickable/interacts with objects/interacts with PCs and NPCs as if normal size.
Try shrinking to smallest size and then fly close to objects--you will see. Likewise, giant toons still fit through small spaces just fine.
These devices are visual effects only, similar to when you grow because of Enrage, or are shrunk by a shrink ray.
They aren't purely visual effects. A lot of clipping and collisions on CO engine is determined by polygons.
It isn't consistent at all, but there are places on maps when you can get stuck with unusual size.
Smaller characters can be stuck on surfaces like rubble or stairs, or fall into crevices. Happened to me a few times on tiny ones, but never with huge characters. In the same places.
And I'm sorry, but enlarged characters DO gets in the way of clicking on other people or hovering the mouse over them. It is mildly annoying, but for now only in reading character bios, so it is not a big deal. Would not be so harmless if it was also happening in combat.
Also, with giant characters in tight spaces it may happens that camera ends within character body.
And then people will complain that it also must be fixed.
Cryptic just simplified things. No size change - no problem.
I suppose they simply did not want go through checking everything possible.
There is some sort of scaling going on that affects aggro radius. It was noticeable when EALI was bugged to make you an order of magnitude bigger than what we can do today with normal growth powers.
Nowadays we can't get big enough to see the effect.
I swear sometimes I draw Aggro just for being in the area regardless of anything else. The NPC's are just like "I know that one is not shooting us or healing anyone but I took one look at them and now I have this irresistible urge to murder them!"
Doesn't matter how big or small I am or if other folks are attacking them and I am not lol.
There are already effects that can enlarge/shrink you in combat. There is the growth advantage thingy from that one power (ain't I really specific today? ), and the shrink ray (which i believe is both available offensively to players as a power additive and was an attack from one of the Christmas villains that shrunk you to toy sized, if i recall correctly). These are few and far between, but they do exist.
But, if they can't make magnifiers/shrinkers persistent in combat, for whatever reason, maybe they could at least make combat only suppress the effect instead of completely negating it/turning the device off. At least that way, we don't have to keep turning them back on every 20 feet or so as we get to the next group of mobs.
Maybe they can just make growth and shrinking into auras. Auras are new and cool that way.

Whoever you are, be that person one hundred percent. Don't compromise on your identity.
