Captain America: Winter Soldier

Saw the movie today and I was impress.

As an action spy thriller, Winter Soldier is no kiddie film.

Some impressions:
1) Captain America is more likable compared with the first film and Avengers. In the comics, he was an inspiring leader that somehow did not translate well on the big screen until now.
2) Better/bigger role for former minor character(s) along with interesting new characters.
3) Several surprising plot twist and development.
4) More realistic, take away the superhero tone of the franchise and it would still be comparable to the Bourne series in terms of spy genre, suspense and action.
5) Knowing the identity of the Winter Soldier in advance does not take away from the enjoyment of the film.

The house of ideas is surprisingly good in developing various genres of film suitable to the particular hero.

Now I'm eagerly awaiting Guardians of the Galaxy and the Age of Ultron. Also looking forward to Spider-Man and DoFP even though those belongs to Sony and Fox atm.

Just a tip which long time MCU fans may already be aware of: Be sure to stay for both the mid-credit scene and post-credit scene.

I recall hearing it was released in the UK already.

This is becoming a more common marketing tactic by American movie producers: release a "big" movie first overseas, let it build up buzz and stoke anticipation in the American audience before its domestic debut.

International release date of the film was March 26, 2014. So overseas get a head start to watch the movie.

My impression was it was a way of fighting piracy but I suppose the buzz generated does help a lot as well.

Wait...wut. A Captain America movie is released in America LAST?

*WARNING! GOOD OLD BOYS LOOK AWAY NOW THE NEXT PART MIGHT OFFEND*

Right not being a git here I'm married to a Texan and my daughter is a New Yorker so I dont hate Americans I actually quite like them....but most of the world hates your face so surely CAPTAIN AMERICA should have been realesed in America first? Or does that sound like to much common sense?

Ultimately Hollywood movies exist to make money. For better or worse, Nepht, money cares nothing for borders and has no national loyalty.

My hubby he raged so hard about America getting it last. Then I pointed out we live in the UK and we will get it before the USA :P

I'll agree that it's pretty ironic that a Captain America movie hits the USA last.

But we could always say they left the best country for last. *insert stereotypical American smugness here*

Glad to hear this one is decent - I didn't care much for the first Cap movie. Along those lines, did you feel it was better than the original? How does it compare to The Avengers? I thought that one was possibly the best super hero movie ever made.

And here in Finland, we don't get to see Captain America: Winter Soldier. We get to see Captain America: The Return Of The First Avenger.
    Yes, really.
I think the reason for the name change is, Russia. Some people are afraid that Putin gets angry, because they got their asses handed to them in Winter War, and invades us.
    Bring it.
Or the renamers think that Finns don't know who the Winter Soldier even is. And because the 1st Captain America movie was called Captain America: The First Avenger.
I bet that 3rd Captain America movie is called Captain America: The Return Of The First Avenger Part 2.
Just because they rename movies really stupidly here.

No, I would think not, because Captain Britain is a completely different Marvel Comics character.

And he's pretty cool, too (And very different). What were the pistols he used again? Come on, one of your Brits has to know this...

Marvel UK always had some pretty stellar stuff, now that I think about it. I liked their Transformers stories (way better than the US ones, they actually had better continuity).

    Captain Britain
doesn't use guns. Union Jack does. Captain Britain, Brian Braddock is the brother of Elizabeth Braddock aka Psylocke.
Union Jack, originates back from the WW 1. He uses single .455 Webley revolver and 6" steel dagger.

Hi there, sorry for the late reply. Went out of town for a week.

Yes, I do feel that this was much better than the First Avenger. Reasons:

Plot - CA:TFA's plot was pretty straight forward, not so with CA:WS. Here, there are layers of plot and it plays like a detective film where the true villian is revealed near the final act.

Character Development - Both major and minor characters are better fleshed out, good interaction among the heroes.

Themes - National security, pre-emptive strike and trust issues are very fitting for contemporary times.

Compared with the Avengers. That's a tough one, likewise I also feel that the Avengers was one of the best super hero movie ever made.

This is what I can say, the Avengers is a film that has mass audience appeal where as young children would not be able to appreciate the whole plot of Winter Soldier. The new film feels like a movie better suited for grown ups. WS has its light hearted moments but it is a more serious film than the Avengers.

I doubt Captain America would be able to beat Avengers' box office hit, but I think it would certainly surpass Thor:TDW.

I just came back from watching this. My thoughts were that Blueionstormz was spot on:

I very much agree. I expected just a superhero film, but it was much more a spy/political story.

In fact, I also felt the bits about S.H.I.E.L.D. outshone the bits about Captain America. Much of the film was about S.H.I.E.L.D., just seen through Captain America's eyes. Nick Fury, Black Widow, Maria Hill, other agents, really intrigued me.

My favorite quip so far about the film is "Does Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. become Agents of Guys Without a Job?"

Also... STRUCKER! ....And Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch.

Well the latest AoS episode kind'a covers that...

I just find it a little weird the TV show only gave people the opening weekend then BAM! SPOILERS!

But at least AoS is interesting now :D

Also Winter Soldier is probably my favorite Marvel movie so far, its a toss up with Avengers.
