This seems to be of questionable veracity.

I used it all the time. I was really disappointed when support for it ended.

Agreed. I remember being able to pose the character in the MyChamps screen too.

Yeah, the character poser worked better in the app than in the web browser.

Champs had some really awesome features during launch, they were really ambitious with it, being able to see in-game mail from the forums, being able to do bios and character portraits from the web, all the social media integration. Then they threw it all away. Sad.

I very much miss being able to show off my characters via the website. Also miss being able to see which of my friends were online through the website.

I want to build a time machine just to experience these functions. :c

Ah man, this game was much more awesome in the past, apparently...

They pushed boundaries with Champs back in the day. They were ambitious. One of the things that they did (and thankfully still have), is the universal chat system. You can chat with people in any of their games, as well as being able to connect to chats from outside the game. It's an amazing feature I hope stays with the game forever.

For its games, Blizzard is trying to do the same with Battle Net chat... they'd just delayed it for now to ensure the smooth release of the Diablo expac.

I think most of it being thrown away was due to Atari, since all those features were lost during the Atari regime.

No the web browser features (specifically) were lost during the PWE switch actually. Though I know nothing about the app.

Atari allowed Cryptic to design the website and link it into the game data, when PWE took over they took control of the site from Cryptic and unlinked the game data. The app lost support about the same time because it used the same calls as the website.

Definitely not how I remember it since many of those features were shut off long before the PWE acquisition.

No, the character viewing, game mail reading, friends online status, etc via website was dropped when PWE converted the CO's websites to PWE's server structure.

I would forgive it if they somehow bring the Gateway from NW to CO...

We lost the in-game mail and friend list integration just shortly after the announcement that PWE had bought Cryptic, right around the time when PWE made the first modifications to the website and forums. They claimed there were tech issues with keeping it.

I get that Atari is the focus of a lot of angst when it comes to CO and STO, however there are only a couple of constants present, and Atari isn't one of them.

Its really hard to blame Atari when they are the reason we even got content after Resistance. As soon as PWE purchased them, mid Whiteout, production for new content halted because Cryptic couldn't be hassled to develop more content for Champions. Its why Whiteout fell flat on its face in the last issue and we never got a REAL Whiteout complete update. And hideouts weren't finished. And features were removed.

And PWE isn't to blame for this either.

    They didn't throw **** away.

They made all this stuff work great for Neverwinter on the new network infrastructure with PWI, but never bothered to bring it back online for us. or for STO.
Kind of pisses me off, actually.

Just an FYI, you are misremembering it.. It was absolutely due to the transition to PWI website and structure.

I miss a lot of these features. I really like being able to pose and show off my characters. Ah, the good ole days of yesteryear.
