Yeah, I'll go there. There's an awful lot of girly-girl costume options, and none for the boys. Admittedly male fashion in the world is... execrable, but there's some options I'd like to see, mainly real kilts, with a proper sporran, not just that stupid side-satchel my current plaid dress-wearer has to make do with.
Anyone have any ideas for male fashion accessories? I want to see some men's costumes, or boy costumes. Oh, hey, here's an idea: Handkerchief worn around the neck, Scout-style, for those of us who want to always be prepared...

That piece is available both as a secondary Hips Layer option and as a tail, and yes, you can set them both simultaneously so they constantly clip each other as well as yon glutes.
I guess it's designed not to clip the Magical Girl Skirt, which goes... over it, oddly. But that means everything else will clip it the other way and look horrible. You can even wear it with the original draped skirt-cape, or the Victorian dress, for super clippy fun times.
The Magical Girl skirt is another one of those miniskirts which somehow counts as short, medium, and long simultaneously. Here it is with "Skin for Long Skirt." Note that the sliders I have for Legs is right under the "L" and for upper/lower legs are dead center:
Symptoms may include rapid weight loss, muscle weakness and inability to walk unassisted. As the disease progresses (with "Skin for Dress Skirt") even more serious symptoms can occur:
Okay, this shot actually tempts me. Combine that with the options that give you invisible arms...

NO MORE GENDER EXCLUSIVE COSTUME SETS.
I say this for a reason, and it's not because I'm a sexist or boo-hoo'ing that I can't dress in drag and I've been left out. I say this because the prospect of this comes loaded with a potential problem. Bare with me here:
Let's take a costume set- it doesn't matter which one, as long as it's for both male and females. Let's pretend you're unbiased and you have a balanced number of male and female characters/nemesis. Now, you're paying roughly five bucks for this costume that you can throw on any or even all of your characters. This is not bad- it's a solid deal. Now, let's take a gender-specific costume. And you've still got your balanced number of male and female characters, because you roll like that. You're still paying roughly five bucks, but when you break it down- You can only use it half as much as you did before.
Of course, you may be sitting and thinking 'well, if it's something I don't want, I won't buy it, no big deal'... I need to stop you. There's another issue here. See, in the military we have this thing we call the 'Good Idea Fairy'. As sweet and adorable as this little creature sounds, let me assure you- it's more like a morale-crushing gremlin from the bowels of the Hell. It crops up and appears all fine and good, and then all of a sudden- everyone suffers (See: PT Belts). How is this possible? Well, again bare with me-
As of right now some suit-and-tie guy at PWE that stares at numbers and profits and whatnot has already taken note of the sales generated from not one, but TWO gender-specific costumes. Here comes the little Good Idea Fairy to tell him that the players are willing to shill out full price for a costume that only works on female characters- which means, of course, that they can get your whole five bucks for roughly half the effort of what they normally made... which means that next costume, the Mechanized Blaster Butt Laser Armor Suit can be sold as male and female separately! SUCCESS! Well, for him, anyway. Congratulations, we're now paying full price for half of what we used to get- and regardless of whether or not you use both genders to create your characters, I get a bit miffed at not getting the 'option on the shelf' when I've paid for it, whether I intend to use that little option or not. I may not eat but half the fries in my combo meal- but don't think for a second I won't notice if you've only given me half of what I paid for and then come crashing through the door like the Kool-Aid man on bath salts.
we can safely rule her out of being who zz top was singing about.
anyhow, i liked the magical girl set, mixed with the harajuku set it allows for some more flexibility in the general character concept. that said, for a concept that would fit both genders, outside of the not actually martial arts related at all toga thing from the cyber samurai set, we havent had a good marital arts hero themed set in a while, maybe some Chinese martial arts robes? maybe? maybe a cheongsam for the ladies? or a decent martial arts gi/dobak top that is not open to your navel?
I don't see any issue with the missing limbs and parts with the costumes, it's actually fun when you combine all sorts of possibilities, but I do agree that there needs to be a balance in male and female costumes, even if the specific parts don't look identical.

a few points i disagree with.
1. no gender exclusive sets limits creativity for the developers. video games dont take place in a vacuum and there are outfits that people readily associate with comics of varying types that are gendered, at least they are far more likely to be seen on one sex of character than another. my earlier asking for a cheongsam (chinese dress) is going to primarily be used for female heroes, resources can be spent making it fit males too, but as far as maximizing usefulness of our devs, it would be using resources to fit a really small subset of the existing players who would want the item in the first place. So we either exclude some pretty iconic costume pieces because they are almost exclusively used for female characters (in general people seem more accepting of women wearing traditionally mens clothes than the opposite) or we task limited resources for something that is going to not bring in the revenue or the extra effort. I'm all for a little drag for the guys, would likely put it on a few of my comic characters, but again, expected return on an idea is key.
2. again, not entirely, provided we look at costume sets as having a set number of pieces, a womens only set that has multiple variations is not going to be a worse deal than a set that is the same in both gender but has fewer pieces. from a dev time standpoint i could accept that because they produced an equal amount of things, if the number is close, they just had to make a male and female version of the same thing. that said, if the female only costume has less pieces than a shared set, then cryptic is legitimately trying to get a fast one, but it breaks down to the question of how many pieces are produced, there should be an acceptable and unacceptable number for a specific price, but that is independent of genders.
as for the idea fairy, i dunno, there is such a thing as assuming a worse case scenario based off of suspect reasoning. cryptic has certainly had a history of bad decisions without our input so i doubt this particular issue is more or less likely to cause them to do something dumb. its not that your case is implausible, its just that its no more plausible then any other situation involving cryptic pwe., I'd say that so long as we agree on a Piece count for an acceptable 5 dollar value and hold firm, then cryptic/pwe is no more likely to do something shady then they usually are.
I've found this in internet and Me becoming to like Magical Boys. o3o
I wish this IMG tag works.
I honestly can say, the second to last one, on the right-hand side? That red coat? I could do something with a decent trenchcoat thing like that with custom sleeves.
I will be honest, this MINI costume Set looks rather... Rushed and Cheap
also NO MORE GENDER LOCKED COSTUMES please, you could easily add some Male costume parts along this set, it's useless for people whose Roster contains Male characters Consider that it's a FULL priced Costume set as well with very few parts
The Magic Girls Neck could have been unisex for example, it would look good for Mages
I Like what they did with the Dryad Costume set, and made the majority of the parts Unisex!
Harajuko set has costume parts that would work AMAZINGLY with Males
Like the GLASSES (the glasses should have been Unisex from the start)
The Boots (they don't look that Girly)
The jacket with the pins (with some costumization it will be nice)
The Teddy Bear Hat (because Cuteness doesn't apply ONLY on Girls, many Otakus wear those hats)
Teddy Bear Bag pack (because why not?)
when I asked for more Anime/JRPG i didn't wanted them to Be GENDER-locked
I've found this in internet and Me becoming to like Magical Boys. o3o

I'm overall disappointed with the magical girl costume set... before we worry about gender-bending it, could they maybe remove it, and do it again properly, so it's actually worth genderbending?
The set is underwhelming, there are a couple nice pieces but is there enough to justify buying the set for? I miss the old sets like the Sci-Fi, pulp, iron age, or golden age costume sets. Those were well worth the money.

There are many options for male skirts in the game, and while it would be amusing to have frilly ones for males too, my main beef with this set is that there isn't any costume parts for magical male anime inspired characters to use... and there should have been. They don't have to be identical, but a coordinating themed look would have been a good addition to the set.

We have a workaround for kilts, but they are the wrong length for kilts.....also, we don't have sporrans. Kilts need sporrans.
Pity, I just kind of assumed that they were already covered under the manskirt option. I know my hero The Still-Heart and his nemesis King Amenta have been making excellent use of the Egyptian shendyt.

To be fair that's Jake Gyllenhaal. Pretty sure he has a professional groomer to keep precisely like that, especially if he's in the middle of a movie shoot.
That's the great thing about SC. You could stick the man in an Easter Bunny costume and he would still be the coolest and most dangerous looking guy in the room.
turtles make better chest pieces than metal plates
got the magical girl set.
this is with archer short shirt and arcane collar.
just the costume, front and back
the but wrap is made for someone with no rear end. if you wear it without the skirt, it goes through you rear. it looks nice. the lace edging shows up well .
it is in hips layer and tail accessories, so you can put it on twice.
Th yellow in this picture is her tights.
it also stretches when you fly and has a billowing animation even in the tailor, hence the bunched look in the picture. it is nearly floor length
skirt is ok. looks like the wizard skirt with gradient added.
the collar is kinda flat and doesn't show up much.
the 2 tops are just 2 more corsets/bodices which look like they came from the chest armour section. very low cut
boots look like the arcane boots with a ribbon attached.
shoulder pads have a pattern on them
fake edit: Your post changed so much in the time that I was writing mine, that mine doesn't exactly respond to it anymore. x3 I was going to defend the set a little, but now I guess it's more like adding my two cents. Also, yeah the stretchyness of the butt cape is crazy. I hope that gets fixed.
It's much better when it's not used as a set. I've already made very good use of it, but some of the color areas can be tricky to work with. This set fills in gaps, much like the head and hat sets. It's pretty buggy, but that's been a problem with just about every set that's come out since OnAlert. It could be better, and isn't as generous as the Dryad or Archer sets, but I don't think that it's below the standard that has been established by previous sets. I would have loved some hairstyles to go with it, though.
After I uploaded this, I worked on it some more, and I was able to use the Heart Emblem to cover the cleavage window without any noticeable clipping. It looks like the same cloth as the abdomen section. Then I resized the head for a younger appearance, and fixed the shader on the glove to match the arm.
My vote is for more male body hair options.. We have hairy chests, but everyone has waxed armpits and legs? Very strange. What would Wolverine think? Beards are good, too.
And I have to say, please stop with the single-gender only costume sets and emotes. There should be something for everyone in a set.
Comments
Latest costume set is probaby the most redundant set ever.
