Well, my daughter has decided that she wants to play CO with me and I was wondering what "fun" builds people had ideas on. She is twelve and has never played an internet game before, but since I gave my children an account to share between them I will be able to play with her as necessary so a focus on soloing isn't as big as a deal to her as it is to me.
As for concept, she has a story about a punk girl dying and then clawing her way back from the afterlife. For whatever reason she also wants to wield a bow (I blame the Hunger Games.) in addition to her post mortal powers but hasn't said much about her gaming goals, since this is her introduction to online gaming I doubt she knows what questions to begin asking.
Gave her the Void pet instead of the Shadows just cause its easier to manage, and takes advantage of the Fear debuff. Basically- keep Fear up via Shadow Blast or Embrace. Use Sonic Arrow as your main attack, Storm of Arrows for its good aoe damage, Embrace for its aoe/fear and when Arrow Storm is on cd, Lifedrain if you (or nearby friends) need some healing, & Evasive Maneuvers if you need to drop threat. If the pet dies just re-summon it.
If she needs it more simplified: get the void pet out, Sonic Arrow single mobs or small groups; Torrent/Storm of Arrows larger ones, try to sneak out w/ EM if she's getting hit.
Also added Res Serum w/ reanimator- it'll no longer be a player res, but instead she can use it on dead enemies to call up some zombie friends.
A completely diff build option is to go the infernal/toxic route instead of the darkness route to support the archery. Dunno which one you'd think is more suitable- up to you guys.
(edit: changed Torrent of Arrows to Storm of Arrows- though either could work fine)
Being a new player she probably needs some layer of defense to avoid being frustrated. While she might be playing with you she needs to be able to stand alone shoud she want to play by herself sometimes.
For survivability I suggest using Regeneration as a passive and CON as a SSS. Drain Life as a heal power feels good for someone coming back from the dead, and the reviving experience can be duplicated with Rebirth. Summon Shadows is a nice fire and forget pet that also heals.
In the dps department the main attack is a bow power, Storm of Arrows that synergizes very well with the specs, being a maintain and an AoE. The advantage should block weaker foes under the storm of arrows. Also the offensive specs and the offensive form (Concentration) coupled with EGO as a PSS should grant plenty of damage.
Note that the Innate Talent is for an easier energy management from the start, while other Talents are meant to pump DEX.
Tell her Two Gun Mojo and Lead Tempest are the really fun power
lol
Well, if she doesn't mind abandoning her original char idea, there is merit to using an easy & (overly)powerful build like a TGM-Muni based one when starting out. She'd have to be ready to tank some, though, given the threat/dps she'd be putting out XD

I swapped out Dark Blast for Sonic Arrow as it gives a decent amount of control.
Swapped Resurgence for masterful Dodge as Resurgence is kind of a poor active Defense for Regen. Regen lacks its own damage reduction so MD fills that gap.
Swapped Dark Transfusion for Shadow Shroud as I don't see energy being an issue and the -heal is a tad brutal.
And swapped Avenger for Guardian as it'll provide the build with more crit and defenses.
Can't agree w/ that. Unless ya mean other abilities should be balanced around its level? Cause that would be a tremendous amount of power creep
(cant really blame the ability alone though, they buffed it w/ the intent of buffing other stuff, iirc, but never finished that venture)
I was typing a longer rebuttal to that reply (have a cold atm so that's irritating me), gradii, but midway through I realized we're veering way OT and I dun wanna argue in this state. I'll just say we seem to have different viewpoints w/ respect to nerfs/buffs and what is 'okay' power-wise, but I can hope you'll agree that ability balance really needs another look in this game.

Thanks....
My daughter has also decided to play CO. She's a young gamer with seat time with Torchlight2 and not much else so the basics are there for movement and ability use. Her primary attacks always tend to be archers as well. I built her a good archer build but her main problem in CO was getting surrounded and she isn't really tactically mobile ( yet ) So I made her a melee build that was cat themed ( she ate that up ) and she also likes angels ( so that made picking a certain power pretty easy as well as useful, ultimately ) She's currently 22 in Canada and loving the build. As for myself, I've not been back long so the specializations ( not around when I still played . . . ) are going to be a work in progress until I get more seat time. I'm sure they are not optimal by any far stretch.
My daughter is 8, this is the build I started her with. She enjoyed it...when she left the costume builder. It's easy, durable, decent damage, and doesn't require any targeting until bosses.
I make sure to set her builder to "Toggle, never cancels" to make sure she is always attacking, even if she hasn't mastered all the controls yet.
