Post here the things that irk you, and the things that you just hate or fear about a coming new year. Me personally, it's new people flooding the gym. Caliga loves to stay in a moderate healthy state of fitness, but every year, the gym gets flooded with "New Year Resolution" people. BAH!
You don't need a new year resolution to stay healthy, that's just an excuse!
So what bothers you about new years?

especially the idiot who REALLY needs to get his engine tuned up.
but most of all, why do we getting new years, what happens to all the old ones? is there a file or storage of them somewhere?

You know I never actually considered the new years resolution people at the gym... that explains it. I guess I can look forward to more fat people sitting on the machines talking to each other while I'm trying to do a quick circuit and then have to keep track of all the machines that I missed thanks to Fatty McChuckledump and Rolly McPolystoryteller over there. I really wish I had the ability to spontaneously fill myself up with fart gas so I could just crop dust them as I walk past...
My super cool CC build and how to use it.
And I hate december 31st and all the unneccessary hype surrounding it anyway.
2. The Facebook statuses from all them two-faced [mmmmmmf].
"New Year, New Me! 2014 is MY year!!"
"HMMMM I think I'm bout go on a New Years friend list CLEANING SPREE!!!! If I don't talk to you don't be surprised when we're not friends anymore! ))"
Oh, I could go on.
I make what I call 'anti-resolutions'. Anything that I did wrong or screwed up? I resolve to not repeat that, and instead pursue the opposite- and they 'stack'. So this is what I got so far:
I won't go to bars with people I don't know very well.
I won't ever interact with police without recording the incident.
I won't go to movie theaters.
I won't meet a date at her house on the first date.
I won't let someone keep my firearm without some documentation.
I won't let anyone but a dealership change the tires on my bike.
I won't date a girl that doesn't have a job.
All life lessons learned the hard way, and I stay dedicated to them.
What do I fear? Drunk drivers. I just recently lost a distant friend who was a motorcyclist, hit by a drunk (on the 3rd DUI).
I also have some personal, political/government fears as I am military and an Oathkeeper, but those are not appropriate for the forum.
I hope all of you have an awesome new year.
Jesus, people actually do that???
I'm really glad owning guns is illegal here O_O
It's not as uncommon as you think. In the Middle East and Southeast Asia, they do that at weddings and sometimes after elections.
It's also not as dangerous as you think- most of the people who own those firearms are law-abiding citizens. They're shooting into the air, not in random directions.
Back where I grew up, my dad would have someone throw a bottle of champagne into the air and he'd shoot it with his 12-gauge. We lived in the country- this is not a practice in the city.
2.common sense, after all. you are the one responsible for it.
3. again, common sense. Your motorbike tyres are too important to get anyone but the dealer to change.
4. If you're on a motorbike, they don't have to be drunk. Inasttentive will do. I watch out for bike riders due to freinds who ride them and knowing how little protection they have.
Also my older brother nearly getting killed(the boy next to him did) doing cycling(bicycle) road training. The driver ignored all the warning signs and drove into the middle of them.
Considering all the political problems currently going on. I wish you good luck for the year, regarding the not appropriate part.

Well, when I go out for drinks, I 'always have a plan', because I don't drink and drive. But when everyone with you decides to start pounding booze, and the driver leaves with a 'lady of negotiable virtue' with the keys, it's kind of a hassle- especially when everyone is like 'I'm broke, man...' and you're calling a cab. End result: "Sorry guys, I'm going to my house. You might want to call your buddy back or find another ride with someone."
It wasn't even that. I purchase a handgun about 10 years ago, and because of military obligations, I had to leave it with someone on short notice. He and I had a falling out, and it 'got stolen', though I know he got his concealed carry permit with the same gun months later. He filed a report, of course, but 'no forced entry to the vehicle'.
Pretty much what Cyber said. ^_^ Unfortunately, I grew up in an area with a lot of crime; "New Year's Drive-bys" weren't unheard of, either. I'm out of there, now, but I always get paranoid when I hear gunshots... period. :P
I do. Never haphazardly into the air though. That's dangerous.

as for new years, I stay in, too many drunks.
Oathkeeper
I do not doubt your sincerity. From what I've seen on the forums you seem a very reasonable, nice, and all around admirable person. However-
Your group is inventing enemies that simply do not exist and has zero business even talking vigilante.
Since we're talking personal, this is why I say this:
I took the same oath. All of us do. It's not uncommon. Many state, county, and local workers take the oath.
After 16 years I put down my badge this month. No I am not a police officer, but I do deal in enforcement that crosses state lines as circumstance dictates. I work in a scientific capacity. This last statement is important to me because:
While I have had a wonderful career, and can look back with pride at a few miniscule things I worked on, the times I was scared someone was going to be hurt stick out. The last 2 were in the last 9 months. Both involved Oathkeepers.
One was arrested, another after calming down was removed from the property in question toa stretch of public road where he was free to document the proceedings. Said road was hampered traffic wise due too personnel on scene and the distraction it creates, all due to a guy who kept mumbling about the constitution who refused to allow a
You guys are looking for an enemy that simply does not exist. There are no FEMA camps waiting for you. No one wishes you ill.
The strangest part is so many of you have the same affiliations from dept to dept, and still think the "shadow govt" could find it's **** with both hands, and has some sort of diabolical scheme it's just itching to hatch.
Sometimes emergencies happen. It's less than convienient for everyone. No one delights in it. Grabbing whatever firearms may be handy and investigating as a "neighborhood watch" is just not a good idea. I don't know how or why we have sunk too this level of trust, but this is gonna end like that crappy Kevin Smith movie where people get hurt for no reason. Most of my friends are unarmed. Yours seem eager to pull weapons.
Gah okay I'm drunk and rambling but my point was this: You guys sound like under certain circumstances you feel like it's ok to shoot at me. I think you need to turn off Alex Jones, and take a lap. Sorry for the rant. Wait no not sorry. Life is boring, I grant you, but inventing fictional opponents isn't safe. Take up drinking like everyone else already.
If it makes you feel better:
That FEMA camp thing? Yeah, I didn't buy it at all and laughed (one of those places was a train repair station) ... until they started locking homeless people up in that one in South Carolina.
It's less about vigilantism, and more about refusing to see American rights taken away. Now, are we (my local chapter) about vigilantism? No. But, I survived hurricane Katrina, and I learned a lot about how people can be. So, we're first and foremost about defending American rights, and then protecting people in the event of a natural disaster or economic collapse. The organization is not as unified as you think, but the basic principles apply across the board- it's more 'community' than 'cause'.
I'll also be honest- watching the news and paying attention over the last 2 years has made me trust cops less. Sure, you can say 'that's the minority', but even the local police here have become bullies. Ten years ago, I drank coffee with cops and remembered feeling safe around them. Now I'm worried when they're going to harass me and try to pull my off my bike again and cuff me for no reason (and unlike those people in the videos, I'm polite- but still do not consent to searches or answer any questions that aren't required). As of now, I have a camera installed in the mini-fairing of my motorcycle and I always record with my phone if I see police interacting with people here (especially if they look to be military, because some of my own guys have had bad experiences with them and the cops got out of hand with one of them).
I mean, I'm by no means a 'conspircy nut' and I think Alex Jones is an interesting entertainer- hell, I spent about 3 days once debunking all the conspiracy theories, and my main reason for being interesting in them? I use them for inspiration in role-playing.
I mean, it's really easy for you to sit and say 'no one is going to do that' and send people to camps, but in the 1940's our own country herded Japanese-Americans into internment camps, so it's not like that's something we haven't done before.
So I do have firearms, a bug-out bag, a food stash, and a small cache of precious metals. Yes, I am willing to defend myself and other Americans with deadly force should the need arise, even if it is from our own government (which I am currently still serving and will do so loyally until said government becomes a threat to the people). Am I out patrolling the streets with my rifle and sidearm? No, cops get paid to do that.
I'm also very anti-political. I don't buy any of it, and I think it's all a farce. I don't pay attention to what this politician says or does, simply because to me- they're like children that claim a side in a debate the same way children claim Lego colors in front of a massive pile. In the end, they don't care and it's a way to get votes. I pay attention to laws, especially laws that intend to disarm me (which I will resist, or work around at best). One of the things I encourage people to do is when a law is passed, stop believing the law is what people tell you it is. Dig into the law, read it all, and understand not only what it says, but what it could be taken to mean. Years of being in the military and pointing out loopholes in regulations to my seniors and subordinates taught me how to do this.
In the end? It's about protecting my community and myself, and I'm sorry- but the current state of law enforcement in this area and the surrounding areas leaves me with little faith in them. Maybe if they looked a bit more like Policemen and less like Malta henchmen, I'd feel better.
I'm just not getting it. The Fema camps don't seem plausible. Not enough people to man one let alone herd masses into one.
edit: I was drunk and rambling. Back on topic-
An earthquake.
These "New" years always have the same graphics as the year before. I am most un-impressed.

People in New Orleans and other places regularly die from bullets shot into the air, when they come down and put a quarter sized hole through their heads.
Happy New Year
Maybe shooting in the air is safer in 2014?
Shooting into the air is illegal.
Firing a firearm outside of a range and/or outside of a safe hunting area is illegal.
No law abiding citizen shoots randomly into the air, if you see someone do this, they are an armed and dangerous criminal.
I'm afraid that industry will sink.
In an Urban environment, this doesn't surprise me. Every notable incident is in an urban environment.
Directly, straight up into the air? Yeah, that's also stupid. However, at an angle, toward a forested/open area? You're fine. (It's also ridiculously hard to fire straight up and have it land within even your back yard, if you know anything about ballistics). That's what most people do. However, in the urban jungle that people have made 'gun free safe zones' this is where more people get killed, because most of the gun owners are the criminals that- *gasp* didn't turn their firearms in (insane! You'd think a criminal would comply with a safety law!).
Actually, the Nanny State would have you believe that about gun owners. This is false. They are careless and should be reported (or asked to knock it off), but they are not an 'armed and dangerous criminal'.
I fired several shots the other night. In a controlled environment. That's the difference.
(Note: This was small game load out of a Mossberg 500. Most 'country folks' do this, as the ammo is ineffective at long ranges and consists of tiny pellets that do no harm when falling, hence why they are used to hunt ducks, birds, etc.).
I'm afraid that the nickel-and-diming with microtransactions in games will become more of a norm. I've got this 'conspiracy theory' about how the next generation of games will be 'a series of incomplete teasers' where you have to spend MORE money to get the full, or at least a functioning experience and story. Already MMORPG's are learning the value of offering 'goodies for extra if you want them', but then we're going to start seeing that in console games. Want extra rockets for your jet? Pay up. Never mind that this imbalances the online play. You can blame the Asian 'Pay To Win' market for this, as it's an outright blight on the gaming market.
WoW will still crank out $50 expansions that allow you to play as some moronic fur-critter and allow you to level up 5 WHOLE MORE LEVELS!!! It will also continue to remain 'not fun'. Now, you may ask why I gripe about WoW? Well, every MMORPG that comes along with big ambitions gets called a 'WoW-Clone', and I hate to say it, but what made WoW the way it is? Wasn't original at all. Other games were played the exact same way before WoW came along. This game is not the inventor of its mechanics or even 'cartoonish' visuals, so it's obsessive fanbase needs to get over it.
More Call of Duty. Exactly what we need. Linear and repetitive games that do less than FPS games in the 1990's, with droves of unsupervised and foul-mouthed children (and manchildren) belting out insults and profanity over the headset.
The PS4 and XB1 won't crank out anything worthwhile. Good. Neither one will get purchased by me until 2015. Sadly, we'll probably see a brand new console in 2016.
But yeah on large parcels of land with arms pointed properly where ther is no potential for harm/noise disturbance....oh I miss that.
**** was in limbo so long missed that console post. Apologies.
on topic: I miss KOTOR's better story and the sheer fun that was Gladius (that was fing pvp) that consoles used too have.
Agreed with everything here.
Because they've proven again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again that they don't care for actual facts very much.
Also remember that time someone shot a street thug in self-defense and the media thought it would be hilarious to turn it into a racial issue?
I wouldn't cite Cracked.com as a reliable source. I went through their entire 'Gun myth' and 'Military Myth' articles and debunked well over half of each.
Yes, there are a such thing as silencers that make your gun much more silent, Cracked. And yes, sometimes you need to 'pump the shotgun' or 'pull the hammer back' for reasons other than 'looking cool'.
Not to mention, a lot of Cracked articles are stolen or overall just plain bogus (they still think Nikola Tesla created 'free electricity for everyone').
