Heroic Fashion Costume Set (aware it's a lousy name choice, but it actually doesn't have one. Just 'cause, Heroic Formal :P). Quoting myself (I know, right), from the new Victorian Costume Set's thread:
Really cool, interesting pieces in this set for mix'n'matching! Gotta love the skirt. Reading through the comments, I noticed a few players liked the beard/mutton chop but would like a more modern version. And I was like, "Oh, I might have something in the back, sir".
This woulda-been a costume set suggestion, done ages ago. Civilian outfits for our more style-savvy fashion-forward heroes, when out clubbing or to a nice cocktail party - I felt that while Heroic Formal was very nice and all, it was a little prom-sy. So this would have been a more modern take, "I'm a rockstar", young Hollywood, David and Victoria Beckham kinda thing. The set would also come with a hairstyle for each gender, and facial hair for our handsome boys.
It's completely unfinished even as just a mockup (bear with me
), I dropped the whole thing when I realized the set maybe wouldn't be all that popular. If there's interest, however, I could probably drop what I managed to get done in the Suggestions Box; but regardless, there's a CO-style( approximate, attempt) to a modern, stylish beard. :P
And apparently there was (interest, that is), mostly in the beard, but here it goes, as promised (click for higher-res version):
Disclaimer: You don't really have to read the rest. I have a way of not making a lotta sense in huge walls of text, at times... But for what is worth, a few notes and observations about it:
First off, it was about narrowing it down to a style/occasion, not only to keep cohesive as a set, but also, because otherwise it'd have been a huge Mega-pack with general clothing of all styles & types. That said:
For the ladies: I figured bandage dresses would be interesting, with all the lines, strategically placed at the waist would help it look seamless as a one-piece. That can be difficult to achieve using separates in the CC, especially in lighter shades. It's also a happy medium between short and medium skirts (#3-red is a tad longer), and you could still use these as separates pieces, for your hero's costume. The patterns (especially the tops) are quite versatile that way. I had two options for footwear. A faux fur vest was also on the table at some point, but I didn't get to it. The glasses as seen on #1, just a plus. Hair: I figured a Jen Aniston, kinda, long-layered sleek, not as long as our main long hairstyles, not shoulder-length either. And it'd have been all about those perfect layers, framing her face beautifully. Not sure I nailed the back part there, though.
For the guys: we have a lot that's already covered (suits, jackets...) so again, I figured a more modern, laid-back rockn'n'roll kinda vibe. Unbuttoned formal shirts (a tucked in, full-sleeved version as well, )undone ties, chains, tailored suits, blazers and trousers, fitted jeans, all very Gucci/Dolce/RL-esque. I didn't get to go very far with that, as you can probably tell, a lot to be polished, refined, and I was still playing around with ideas when I tossed the whole thing away. The shoes, for one, not happy. I know I could have done better, and would have eventually, it's not looking too good there. But just passing like a general idea, I think it serves the purposes of the set. Back then, I was feeling these Ferragamo-like loafers, they (do) seem(ed) appropriate- but especially now, looking back not only do we have/been given similar and better-looking options in the CC - but even for i.e, #1's look in particular, personally, just a cool pair of sneakers would have made a far better match (though that's also covered). I would've now tried something different, maybe. Also: I had a couple extra options for polo shirts, short & long-sleeved, with a more modern twist and patterns that this guy could pull off. Glasses: Wayfarer-like shades, as seen on #2. Hair: A frontal spiky-messy 'do. And last but not least, that sexy, scruffy yet perfectly groomed beard style, that would give Mind Slayer pause before she sliced you in half.
Aaand that's all. Hope y'all like it.

Hire the OP as a concept artist, too.
Disclaimer: None of what follows got nothing to do with the Costume set suggested above.
1)- Retro Glam Hairstyle: This was going to waste, it belonged to a Retro Glam, kinda set, which I never completed (more like barely begun). I really do think it'd make a lovely addition to our Pulp hairstyles roster. It's all about that 60's voluminous, helmet-shaped head and glam waves: think Lauren Hutton, Brigitte Bardot, January Jones in X-Men: First Class, Susan Sarandon in Lovely Bones, Gisele for LOVE magazine, Sharon Stone in Casino, etc; all those girls (click image for higher-res version).
2)- Oracle Set: Dunno if any of you will remember this? You might recognize the OP not making a lotta sense in huge blocks of text, lol . Really great feedback there, made me happy. Updated for the Design a Costume contest. Set's detailed description, other notes/observations here. (click image for higher-res version):
3)- Spider Necklace and Earrings: Also from ages ago. Very minor compared to the others, but I think they'd be a great complement to our Halloween set (Webbed Collar, Skirt..). Arachno-themed heroines and villainesses alike from all over would appreciate this one. Maybe next Halloween?
And that's enough recycling for the day. Again, hope you guys like these!
@OP: Nice work, you need a job with them, no discussion.

Also, Cryptic, you REALLY need to open the costume set designer to the public and let us who have ideas actually submit them in like a contest of sorts. "Players Costume Set of the Month" or something... people submit random ideas or ones that fit a dev selected theme and then devs narrow entries to a top five and let forum folks vote then the winner has their design made into a new set for the C Store... it's a massive boost for the community to feel more involved and introduces all sorts of ideas to use later on.

These look awesome. Considering they'd probably never do the hair as a standalone, it might be good if they added the hair to the Oracle set if they did it since I could see them working well together.

I'm already thinking of characters to make with these and OH DEAR GOD THOSE SHOES AND HAIR... sorry, I looked at them again.
Come on guys, make this so I can has more shoes. >.> buying them in game is stopping me from buying them irl and my family thanks you for this.
We also seriously need some long curly hairstyles.

I'm just glad you guys are digging these. And to think they'd have never seen the light of day, hadn't I picked up comments from another thread, over a beard, and years later... that's, quite a trip! Good one, though. Keep it going, and thanks again!
LOL, I feel ya.
The reason I bought the Harajuku set: all I saw was a new pair of pumps. I should maybe see someone about that. #NewYearResolutions

These dresses would also go nicely with how the Character Creator works: the piece is advertised as a dress by default, but players can substitute the skirts with briefs so that they look like bathing suits!
As for the male costumes - yes! I want them too! The whole style is trendy but also mature. It's the perfect balance between street and business - themes that couldn't be combined in this game.
And oh my god yes I remember that oracle set. I remember wanting the OP to be hired as a costume designer by Cryptic (at the time) and it is a pleasant return.

Seeing all this support... the very, very kind comments? Day. Made. Every time! Thank You all!!
Thank you! I especially love the Oracle set, it was my first idea/suggestion for a Costume Set. And I still do feel it's got so much potential - right after posting that, I thought I'd give it another go, sorta completed it, re-spun and upped it up a notch (version 2.0!) - but created a different thread for it, not to take from Heroic Fashion or anything.
So, for those of you who liked the Oracle set, but didn't get to see the new & improved version, make sure to check it out in the thread linked below, bump if you will, it could maybe use a little luv right now.

Edit: And put in the fur vest for females, and maybe males too while you're at it. I want one of those.

@ScarredSilencer
One being that i absolutely love these ideas and i would honestly have preferred the oracle to at LEAST made it into the top 5 for the contest as well as the formal.
But more importantly, Spordelia, i want to know how you managed to get the files for the preset costumes in champs?
Also what Program(s) do you use? These look stunning by the way. This deserves more praise.

Yea, gotta fix that.
Def would like to see these re-imagined in the game 8)

Like those on Spordelia's design.
Each costume piece was drawn (in Photoshop), way back on my 1st suggestion ("vintage" Oracle), going in, I thought the mannequins would be helpful, so (and if I understand your question) what I did basically was *try* to stay true or close to CO's style: I'd look at similar pieces: a skirt stretches in this/that stance, a bracer or belt's got a lil detail on the edges, etc.
Also, for example: that first skirt/loincloth version I did for the Oracle Set - the New Shadow's Waist Cape (which was the latest, must-have item) - I tried to base what I had in mind for the set around/off that piece, even in terms of engine, animation/clipping, whatever; make sure(?) it was even feasible. We've since come a long way...
All the images in this thread date back two or more years; it was me just breaking into this, trying to figure out ways to suggest these costumes, to the best of my ability/knowledge. I'd maybe try something different these days: my most recent suggestion (going into programs again), was all done in vectors, for example. I like trying different stuff out (just for me, myself & I), should nothing come out of these, then I may have picked up a couple new tricks along the way, improved my drawing skills, met new friendlies... there's always a positive, I like to think. Sorry if I rambled on too much, but I hope that answers it
(oh, and on that note - old pics - I'm updating both Heroic Fashion and The Oracle sets with the newer Design A Costume Contest versions, nothing reaaaly major, but I do think they're better :P)
Give me this now. *Throws money at screen*
These look great!
Really loving the artstyle as well, you managed to imitate the CO
