"Hey Champions, we?re excited to announce customizable Auras, a brand-new feature now on PTS! Personalize your hero's look with effects like the Snowflake Cloud and Krackle Aura!

Perfect for all of those champions out there who love to constantly change the appearance of their characters, the Aura System brings thousands of new customization options. Auras are items that will create a new visual effect surrounding your character, giving your champion a new look. Depending on how you slot them, each aura can be always active, or only active in combat. Multiple Auras can be active at the same time, leading to thousands of potential combinations.

Want to combine an ice cloud Aura with ice skin? How about a Fire Aura with Electricity? Players can do that with the new system. There?s an even option to individually shift the hue of the Aura to add an extra layer of customization. Using the hue shift players could create a purple Ice Cloud as shown in the image above.

Auras will each be their own item, and you'll be putting them in new Aura Slots, accessed via a tab in the Player Status window. This is where you will activate Auras, choosing to place them in an Always On or In Combat slot. Each player will start with one of each slot type, and can purchase 3 more pairs of slots.

An Aura-specific inventory bag will also be added, which will allow players to collect many auras without filling up their existing inventories. Aura Storage will start at 40 slots, however more can be purchased in the C-Store.

At this point you might be wondering: How do we get these awesome new Aura items? Some Auras will be rare loot from missions, and the majority will be in the C-Store, like costume sets. Additionally, Auras that were previously on passive powers will be added to the Q-Store as Legacy Auras. This was done to give players more thematic possibilities and customization, so you have more flexibility to choose how your hero's powers look.Every player will be given a token to get one of these Legacy Aura items for free.

We?re incredibly excited about this new system and we can?t wait to see the incredible combinations players will come up with. The Aura System is available now on the Public Test Server. If you're a Gold subscriber and haven?t signed up for the PTS server yet, you can do so here.

Have feedback on Auras? Hop on over to the Champions Online forums and let us know! We're particularly interested in graphical performance and how it feels to play with auras."

So does this mean that the auras from powers are removed then? for example when a slotted passive was in I would be on fire during combat. You're saying that this is no longer going to happen for free and that we either have to farm it or buy it now? I've not played CO in a while because of hardware issues with my system but I don't know if I'm going to come back now. You're actually taking something we already had away, and are going to charge us to get it back? It just seems wrong and depresses me.

Each character will get one free token with which to purchase a Legacy Aura. If you liked the Aura your Passive gave you, choose it for free and it's all the same as before. Or you can choose a different one, maybe one that fits the theme better...

Legacy Auras are the ones currently associated with Passives. There will also be all new Auras that you will not be able to get with your free token...

Any additional Auras that character may want beyond the free Legacy will cost you though...

    Nothing changed for you.
You pick the Aura you had your Passive for free. By using a Free Token.
    And continue playing.
Want to change it? You can, for free.
Readin what you copy pasted might be a good thing.

considering the q price auras should be bound per account not per character, so either lower the price or make it sharable

Vigilante gear is "expensive". Why should auras be any different? At least you get the first one free and can exchange that for different ranks of the same kind for free at any time.

Auras are "ooh shiny!" stuff in the game, so not essential to game play (from a MMO standpoint), Cryptic/PWE can charge whatever they feel for cosmetics and people will still get them. It'll be interesting to see how creative folks get with them for RP and CCs though.

    Not the comic sans Dx

I... I've talked plenty about this issue. Now that we can trade out ranks, it's much more awesome than it was before! While I agree that it is fluff and they can do whatever they want, I still think the price is a bit high in comparison to CTPs, the other 200k object, and what they were before Q-store. While the travel powers are expensive, they make sense compared to what they once were. The passive FX... ehhhh. But as I've said, I've already talked about that plenty. We'll have to see what auras come through the pipeline next, if at all, to blow us away.

Now it's just a waiting game... but I always lose those >:[

I'm going to go back on what I said and say that I support account wide unlocks of the Legacy Aura passives. 200k is a bit much for something that should be granted to all characters regardless.

I actually don't want accountwide unlocks... I have a reason too. If we had them accountwide, I would be able to acquire every legacy aura in a matter of minutes, just by creating a new character a bunch of times.

I agree with this. The only way around it is to make the free token character-bound and the 200k account bound.

But the character-bound token would be used to get the account bound auras. The token being passed from the new character isn't the problem..

how about a buyback for legacy auras, 180,000q, you lose 20k but get a new free token, that way if you retcon you can change your aura at a reasonable price. I think 40-80k would be a more reasonable price for a per character item.

Looks like the price is going to be 80K questionite, rather than 200K.
Not too bad an amount--10 days with one toon, for instance.

Well we wouldn't get a free one if this was the case. But we wouldn't have to purchase each aura multiple times.

    Just to clarify...

Auras lost. We get one aura free? Correct? So if I have a Fire Armor and Ice Armor character, only one will get to keep their aura and the other would have to go work to get it back?

Also, this means AoPM just became...useable for all concepts?

Don't you get one free aura per character ?

The deal currently on the table is one aura token per character. Your Ice toon can get an icy aura, your Fire toon can get a flaming aura - or, if you prefer, switch it up and give your Ice toon a flaming aura. Keep 'em guessing.

Unless something changed, that post says each _player_ gets a token.

Which means you get to unlock ONE aura, across all characters.

This is a considerable loss for some people.

(Personally, I think them's the breaks, and having more stuff is worth it in the end)

Edit: although thinking about it more, they run the risk of alienating the crowd who prefers costume/concept more than deep play, and I don't think the game is strong enough to do that.

    Like they have said 'Each_player_gets_a_free_retcon'.
And all of the players characters have gotten one.
But then it's Cryptic and everything is cryptic.

And i'm fine with per character unlock for the Legacy Auras.

I meant it in terms of free token = character bound aura. 200k = account bound aura.

However, that point is moot because of the price change.

    YAY PRICE CHANGE!!!

As for that other issue. Here's a link to lordgar's post on PTS

And here's the important part for S&G.
All new and existing characters are granted one Free Aura Token which may be used to purchase a Legacy Aura through the Aura Vendor in the Auras tab on the Character UI. Additional Legacy Auras may be purchased for Questionite.

I didn't see the problem with account unlocks when we had to fight to get our costume unlocks to work that way. I don't see a problem with account wide travel power unlocks. And I absolutely see no problem with account wide aura *options*. 80k (or the free token) for a character aura. 200ish for an account wide. What could possibly be the problem with that?

I think he understood you to mean that the token and the 80k q-store versions would both be account bound. A separate set of more expensive account bound legacy auras doesn't seem to be a bad idea.

Are the new auras account wide? Do they bind on pick-up, or equip? If they bind to characters, I want to be sure I'm on the right character if/when I buy them. I like the Krackle ones, but I'm not quite sure I have characters to fit them on yet.

They're bind to account. Not sure if it's on pickup or equip.

I don't know if this has been suggested yet and I doubt it will even be added but could we please have a preview of the auras we choose BEFORE we buy them? Thank you!

Theoretically, you can watch the vendor; she cycles through the Auras in the order in which they're shown in the store.

In practice, however, you have people who refuse to turn off their travel powers while there (seriously, do you not understand just how annoying those Phoenix Flight wings can be, while you hover there considering your options??), vehicles that park next to her, and folks who stand right next to her while experimenting with using and coloring the Auras. She can be difficult, if not impossible, to see quite a lot of the time.
