Its just an all in one launcher, many companies use these. There is some good with this, looks like they are finally ditching Pando Media Booster.

I wonder if it will be possible to launch CO with Steam, as it is now? I'm more attached to Steam with my games.

Focusing our resources on a single game and information delivery mechanism enables us to ensure that the experience is solid, rather than needing to prioritize engineering resources across several different systems (which leads to the unfortunate side effect of some systems not getting the love they need).

And finally CO gets the love/resources it deserves.
    Nemesis System gets an overhaul/fix.
    Bigger content updates.
    Weapon Skins come back ingame.
    More Powers.
    More Power Sets.
    Auras.
    Vehicles.
New worlds for our heroes to explore.
    Star*Guard.
    ...

Let's hope it will include the possibility to switch weapons on the Nemesis Creator instead of having to make a costume on the Character Creator.

    Bigger content updates.

I hope there will be new updates for the hideouts.

    Weapon Skins come back ingame.

    More Powers.

    Hoping they're not reskins.

    More Power Sets.

See my comment on the ''More Powers'' tab.

    Auras.

I'd dig them should they switch the color of the powers.

    Vehicles.

    TPs all day every day.

New worlds for our heroes to explore.

You'll need to raise the level cap for that. Though I'd like a Sahara environment, so I could justify the purchase of that Arabian Nights costume set.

    StarGuard.

    Again, no comment.

My comments are on the quotes.

Sounds like they are abandoning Steam.

Can I avoid having to look at all the other PWE games in the ARC launcher? CO is the only game of yours I will ever play.

The last big multi game launcher I used was from NCSoft and god did that bog down my computer memory with all the other **** I didn't care about. I just want to load CO and not have to have ARC in the background EVER.

One more time from the top. No this is not necessary in MMOs at all. It's the beginning of a nonstop downward spiral in MMOs because when a new cap is released the playerbase rushes to hit it, complains about regearing(which is bad in an alt-intensive game like CO, for example), and then start complaining about when the next cap increase is coming. Not to mention I simply do not believe CO has the manpower(CN might prove this wrong but I'm still not in favor or it) to release the constant content updates to make this valid as well as not further trivialize existing content moreso than it already is on live.

The answer to this, IMO, is an AA(Alternate Advancement) System very much similiar to the Feywild Boons which NW recently added(but this is not a new MMO System, I'm just pointing out that a Cryptic Game has some form of it). A System where you complete tasks and such which earn you points to buy additional nongamebreaking boosts to your toons which leaves them at LvL 40 but lets them grow somewhat stronger. In NW, for example, there are 5 levels. The 1st 3 are(CO Guestimation Translation Incoming) Pick A(DPS Option like +Critical Strike or +Offense) or B(Survival options like +Dodge or +Def). Pick 4 is currently crap in NW since it's a 2% chance to proc 400 damage on a hit or 400 heal on being hit with a ICD of like 1m but that could be repaired. Tier 5 is one of 5 options like Health on Kill or Healing items provide +10%. The key here is to allow some additions to character power levels while also leaving open the option to add additional tiers in the future. This system, IMO, eclipses anything a LvL Cap Increase could provide with far less damage. Oh and before you ask, when being adapted to CO a different system could be employed which would just be earning points which could be used to "buy" something like additional talents, spec points, adv point, or powers but the "costs" would be reflected in how useful the purchase is so a power would cost alot more than adv points and the points would need to be somewhat capped IMO. The point is there are better options and I do not feel that, in 2013, LvL Cap Increases are even remotely a solid idea. They're just the kneejerk reply players have been conditioned to expect.

    As for Arc:
I do not care. I am not interested. Here are 2 simple reasons why:

    1. I have a web browser and I know how to use it. They just need to fix the bad code errors with Chrome but I have other browsers if I absolutely must see the pictures in some article.

    2. Run the Launcher, Hit Options, Check the "Show all games" button and now you have one Cryptic Launcher that shows all the Cryptic Games. Taa....Daa. I currently play CO, NW, and STO all from my CO Launcher. It's that simple.

So, if it all possible please make this an "option" for no other reason than I have no desire to have this particular program because, for me, it offers me nothing to validate the space it would take up no matter how "lean" it is. if I ever decide to try out Blacklight Retribution(the only PW Game I've seen which even remotely captures any of my potential interest) then I can download it myself.

In order to take advantage of some of this programs features you need to install the games through Arc, but when I attempted this it deleted everything in the original CO directory, thankfully I was able to restore most of it from my skydrive.

That being said I will likely avoid this program in the future.

From what I've read elsewhere, Arc still needs a lot of work. I saw someone's comment that it's a launcher that launches the... launcher. So, until they fix that, Arc is just a waste of time.

At the moment, that is true. However, from what it says in that article, it looks like the intention is to eliminate the game-specific launchers and just use Arc instead. We'll see how that works, I guess.

Strange we don't have a dev created thread here as far as ARC goes.

    That said:
    http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showpost.php?p=13146001&postcount=78

(How will this affect Steam users?)
We don't plan on making changes to the Steam flow. Specifically, we definitely understand that having a Platform application launch a second platform application is indeed not optimal. So, we plan to allow Steam users to launch STO without launching the full Arc client in tandem.

Good. So I can give ARC the middle finger by running CO/STO through Steam.

Champions is listed under Atari on STeam.
And since I only play one PWE game, I see no reason to get ARC. I uninstalled after accidently getting it.
I have only got 1 game. Champions, I have no interest in any of the other games.
It runs perfectly well from my desktop.
i did breifly have ARC and got rid of it within 1 day. I see no reason to use another launcher to launch something which can launch itself.
I have no need for the messages or social functions or any of the other stuff that ARC is touted to have.

I was one of many who mentioned this point. I'll also add that Arc installs in the hidden App Data folder. So any screenshots, costume and bind files are in an extra layer of directories, you have to copy to and from.

Good thing I backed up CO, so I recovered everything and restored them to their proper place when I uninstalled Arc.

Yo dog, we heard you like clients. So we gave you a client you can launch from your Steam client so you can launch the Champions Online launcher to launch the Champions Online executable.

    WOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!

I haven't seen a Tab in a LONG time. When I was a kid we had a soda vending machine in the local supermarket. Every other soda was standard price at the time. Tab was free. At the time I didn't think anything of it. Later it hit me, "wow, this stuff is such a hard sell they're just giving it away."

We're currently working on that. Short term, it's still our goal to give out some cool stuff once the next version of Arc is made available to players. It's likely that this would occur some time after the next big Arc update.

Long term, one of our goals is to create functionality within Arc that allows us to efficiently provide codes and other benefits to players. However, for the initial release, we're going to be focused on just the basic functionality (downloading games, viewing news, etc). Once we ensure that the core experience is solid, we hope to start adding the cool stuff!

I would say that we're doing everything we can to ensure that having the client remain open has a minimal impact on game performance, if any. However, if we see a trend that players are routinely closing the client for a measurable increase in FPS, then we will definitely look into it.

Yup, at that market. It was a local supermarket called "Big B" and Tab was always set to free until they ran out because almost no one was buying it. They didn't want to just trash the stuff but they couldn't just blatantly give it away either without ticking off the distributor. So the manager and the guy who runs the vending machines set the Tab option to free and let the news of the machine's "malfunction" spread via word of mouth.

Perfect World: I am not interested in any other games until you get off your hands and invest in Champions-Online - the very title I have given hundreds of dollars towards and which in the five-years since development, Cryptic-Studios have utterly failed to invest in and capitalise on.

What on earth makes you think I am interested in the disappointment that is Champions-Online, being included in an inclusive platform initiative to sell me yet MORE Perfect World games?.

Are you under the impression that Flying Lab Studios volunteered to become Cryptic North? Or that the recent waves of bug-squashing just happened organically, of their own accord?

No, it would appear from the evidence that at long last, CO's finally getting some love from the PWE beancounters.

'Course, I'm still not interested in their other games, except for STO...

I'm finding Neverwinter hella fun. But unless you REEEAAAAALLLY love grind *ahem*PWI*hem* or PUGging, you can avoid their other titles.

Anyway, I've been using Arc and the only problem I've been finding is that I need to constantly agree to all three Cryptic games TOS when I load it up. Also all of Cryptics games default to windowed mode instead of fullscreen.

I mean, it could be something else, but it's a heck of a cowinkydink.

No, and I feel for and have sympathy for Flying Lab's position - but the movement you speak of Jonsills does not indicate nor mean that they will be tasked with anything other than the current strategy of lockboxes and 10 min alert content.
Yes there is evidence that bugs are being squashed, but that is far from a coherant development plan coming from PWE/Cryptic-Studios that will evolve the game and do justice to the IP.
That is of course waaaay beyond Flying Lab's (Cryptic Norths's) remit - as that has to come down from Perfect World Entertainment.

I will be very interested, pulled back to the game and motivated to spend $15 per month when new power-sets are developed, with original animations. I will be interested when Ravenswood Academy, Arcadia, Sunday Pond, Atlantis, Well of the Worlds and Shamballah get an in-game enviroment: full-content full-sized (Vibora-Bay sized at least) zones.
In-short I will be interested when Champions-Online (after over four and a half years) actually starts feeling like CHAMPIONS-online.
The cynic in me would say Cryptic North has most likely been tasked with just keeping the status-quo of ticking over with mildly revised and/or expanded powersets, 10 minute alert content and lockbox content.

I'm looking for the BIG INVEST from PWE, when they realise they still have an opportunity after inheriting a fair portion of the CoH community, when they realise that that combined with the disappointment found in Marvel Heroes and DCUO, that a big investment in Champions-Online mean they could be the market-leading example AAA+ Superhero MMO. Sadly I'm resigned to feel that this is not going to be forthcoming. It just feels to me that Cryptic Studios has lost all enthusiasm for the Superhero genre.
Where is our State of the Game? - where is the explanation about the lack of the State of the Game for that matter?

I feel like the expectation has been worn down over time with the development of this game and the abandonment of both the adventure pack and comic series initiatives.
Paragon Studios used to bring out fully fledged NEW powersets to their store quite frequently on the FTP model. Where are our plant, sonic, staff, water, gravity, shield, radiation/cosmic and animal mastery powersets?.
I suppose 5 years on the excuse is they still 'dont have the tech'... well buy the tech and get on with it.
PWE/Cryptic; you either are serious about investing in the game or you aren't. Time will tell, but the writing on the wall doesn't look good if past experience is anything to go by in my opinion.
This isn't about making Champions-online into COH. Despite the avatar I would not want that to happen. In actual fact Champions-lore has thirty years of history and in many ways is superior to COH's lore and gameworld. Where the hell is Mechanon?, where the hell are these missing locales from Champions PnP? - The story could be amazing here if PWE invested in this game.

I feel over time expections have also shrunk with regard to the development of the game and that mainly due to the industry-wide shift to FTP and the way MMOs are developed now, but it doesn't make it any less disappointing in my opinion.

To this date PWE/Cryptic-Studios still has not been forthcoming with even acknowledging our concerns over development, - past that very weak and understated statement from Cryptic-North's Radioscience that said "I know some of you have been feeling a bit neglected lately, and we really don't want that, so I'll be on the forums to answer a few questions here and there".

Still waiting for the State of the Game. Still waiting for the explanation of what is going on with communication and SoTGs. Still waiting for signs that PWE/Cryptic studios has given Cryptic-North resources and staff to fulfill the potential in this game.
Still willing to spend $15+ per month when i see results and that the game is being invested in.
    Still waiting...

Never cared for Tab. Even $Free$ it's still Tab. Just one more diet cola in a long line of NEW diet colas with more diet cola aftertaste.

At least Fresca was new and different.

    Mmm... Grapefruity.

I hear that it is part of the Fanta line, now, if anyone is looking for a carbonated Grapefruit flavor.

I'm afraid that ship has sailed. Cryptic has no chance to sweep up the players of CoH. They missed the opportunity a long time ago.

I have come to the conclusion just like many other people this game is on life support. Cryptic will come in and change the bedpan...sometimes. However, most times it has to smell before they take notice.

The sad part is I really need my superhero fix and this is the only place I can find it. So I'm resigned to pay for a month here and there (to access my freeforms) get my kicks and cancel. Rinse and repeat. The good thing is there are other options on the horizon. And that group of volunteers at least care and are trying.

Playing this game is like being in a bad relationship. I can see all the potential but my partner doesn't try and could care less.

And my 1 cent about Arc.....Cryptic put your time and resources into improving Champions Online. Then I'll think about letting you force feed me your other crap.

For those that are panicked its exactly what Kenpo said its a launcher that launchers a launcher from a launcher to launch a game. Its not game breaking PWE just wants STO players to know Rusty Hearts is a thing.

Thats it really a place to advertise their other games. UPSIDE and this is a very big upside as I have said before Pando Media Booster looks like its getting booted :D

For now, as long as CO and STO is on STEAM, that launcher can launch the games including NW without having to launch ARC even if it is installed. Keep it that way, please.

A game being on "life-support" is a relative term. SWG lasted for a few years after its combat upgrade, but the damage was done. The player base continued to fade until it was so low it was shutdown for good.

New content is in the eyes of the beholder. Alerts were "new" but effectively modified pre-existing instances for the most part. The last addition I felt was truly new content was whiteout, and I remember when comic series were promised to us to be released on a regular basis.

Sure, we've had Gravitar, Hi Pan, and Cybermind. With Grav, anytime people used knowledge of powers to simplify the encounter, it was soon nerfed to the ground. Hi Pan to this day is probably the most balanced, but still suffers from bugs that break it to the point of forcing a complete restart. Cybermind was given an insane amount of health and drop rates so low that a single costume unlock is valued on average over 2k globals. Those of us who repeated it regularly did so mainly to avoid having to repeat the process in the future.

Sure, there have been some new powers. But what's really needed attention are the old ones. There are so many power gaps that particular powers are greatly favored over the majority.

Most new "content" comes in the form of a lockbox. When was the last time we saw a new costume set in the zstore? New vehicles don't really account for much when the alert built specifically for them can't make a simple adjustment of improving the reward.

Bug fixes are great, except when a bug fix takes over a year to hit live, it's a reminder of how neglected things have been.

I think adding the questionite exchange was a much needed and necessary feature. But as far as "new features" go, nothing else comes to mind.

I know all the negativity gets old, but I can only imagine how difficult it must be to be positive about it all.

Wasn't this thread originally about a lame-**** launcher that launches launchers that launch games?
