What's weird to me is that the OP is suggesting this half hour tidbit is representative of the overall state of the game for all of October when we're barely just beyond a week into it.

I rely more on the AH - supply and demand tends to be more reliable.
Suffice it to say, there's a lot less of both.

Trade chat is for people looking for groups, build advice... and just general chatter (going by what I've seen in there).
Yeah... if someone is as charming in game as they are on the forums, I wouldn't be surprised if the number of ignore lists that they're on is the thing keeping them from getting into nemcon. /ignore is certainly a confounding factor here.

About a span of 5 minutes. I do other things while searching and usually don't bother during dead hours like 9pm. That's when Costume Contests usually happen.
Nextnametaken, Allow me to just be blunt here. This player, if he really wanted to play content and be social, would do like the rest of us and join a good guild of like-minded players, maybe even several such groups so there are multiple sources of players of various types around all the time.
That's what people do.
Zone chat at it's worst is akin to Barrens chat in Wow, and many people prefer to remain sane or concentrate on their in-game friends, such as their guilds rather than listen to yet another "Wolverine vs Deadpool" or whatever argument that typically devolves to name calling and worse with strangers.
I personally cannot stand tradespam of any kind, nor LFGuild / LFTeam spam in a general channel. We should have dedicated channels for them, so players who aren't social enough to find their own crowds can bother each other and leave the rest of us alone.
I note you didn't exactly alt and help him put a team together, now did you? Makes you part of the problem, rather than part of the solution.
Kindly stop making thinly-disguised doom threads while you're at it.
I'd *like* to see Zone chat, and I can't.
Makes the game pretty lonely, frankly.
This started probably when I started getting a lot of disconnects, particularly at night, ~ 9pm EST.
...
Players refuse to play content that they've played or they feel is not rewarding enough.
Which in turn tells the devs not to produce new content.
Players ignore the rest of the players by default.
Which in turn makes players feel like the game isn't social.
Players expect people to join super groups, when looking for such a group
has the same results as this guy begging for a team, especially since there's not
enough people that lead super groups listening for people looking for a group.
In fact the leader of Red Academy one of the biggest groups in the game that's been around for three years, spent forty minutes during prime time on Friday night begging for people to que for Gravitar. I"m sure everyone has her on ignore for being so polite and nice and holding costume contests.
Since people are posting pictures. Here's nineteen minutes after noon server time.
1:19 pm Mountain time, early afternoon.
2:19 pm Central time, midafternoon.
3:19 pm Eastern time. Some of the players who are in fact in school might just be getting home. Those with daytime jobs are at work, where most of us don't have the freedom to play games.
It ain't exactly prime time, champ - I'm frankly surprised those numbers are as high as they are. Probably mostly our friends in Europe.

Are we really gonna pretend we don't have a population problem? No one else's fl is getting shorter? No one notices how few instances we have? How many old friends failed to show up for the last event? How rarely certain queues pop?
Maybe inclusion of nemcon as an example wasn't the best way to explain it, but the op is not a "doomsayer". Jesus h what a stupid term. 10 bucks says if the game shut down he'd be much more upset than any of you.
Don't even think for a second you have any idea of the time and energy investment I have in this game, or think you know me that well. *I* am and have been committed to this game in a realistic way; I log in regularly, most often even daily, and I lead a coalition of super groups in a medium sized guild and roleplay, and I am part of several other in-game communities that share my gaming interests.
I am the sole recruiter for my guild and am often busy making our little corner of Champions Online as welcoming and awesome as I can, and it is not my responsibility to do that for the rest of the game's community, nor have I decided I want to take that on. It is all I can do, to manage what I do now.
Let's face facts here. The OP as you say, nextnametaken, is a passive-aggressive poster who purports to "report the truth" to help people improve the game, but I believe his true intent is to try and run off as many new players as possible so the game fails sooner or something. He's an astroturfer as far as I can tell.
@Nextnametaken; No offense, but if you aren't astroturfing and you really are honestly trying to make the game and it's community a better place, then you need to seriously examine how you present yourself and your arguments, and title your threads.
"State of the game Oct. 2013"? really? This is crap and if I was a Trailturtle you'd have already joined "Honestresearcher" in the banned bin for astroturfing.
The problem is that we know. Everyone here knows that the population is low. No one is pretending it's not.
But what good does it do to post the same exact thing, every other week, especially when every single time it comes down to a flame war and insults thrown around?
He posts what everybody already knows without any sort of solution, or anything. Honestly he could just start a new thread titled "Bi-Weekly Reminder: Population is low!" and then he can post how he got his numbers, twenty people can chime in about how those numbers are incorrect/incomplete, and then I close it for being off-topic and flame baiting.
What's the point in all this?
Oh, I don't know, maybe... astroturfing?
Point taken. I just get tired of all the name calling on both sides (fanbois/naysayers/doomsayers/) and was pointing out that the op is not some overly destructive force with some kind of magical ability to "hurt" the game. However when you put it like that, and as you and rune pointed out it could have been titled better I get what you are saying. It's just frustrating. Hell at this point I think we should start advertising the game on our own wherever possible.
edit: and what is astroturfing?
It's paid trolling of a competitor's customer base on the Internet. Personally I don't think we're remarkable enough to merit astroturfing attacks, but apparently some people disagree and think we are.
We all know the game's population isn't what it was when F2P launched BUT that doesn't mean that we're in serious trouble like nextnametaken is constantly trying to imply.
This is an example of the kind of population numbers that might shut this game down.
Peace of mind knowing you're not the one blindly jumping into these arguments where absolutely nothing changes but the posters' mutual dislike of each other?
While next can get a little extreme, what he/she says is completely reflective of my experience.
There is hardly if anything in game that I haven't done before. The majority of content offers absolutely nothing rewarding to justify the time investment. Without reward, pve stops being fun. I can blast low level npcs in westside endlessly, the lack of reward makes it unappealing. The 5k kill perks are hardly enough to motivate me.
I hardly pay attention to zone, and even then its only for people who don't use trade channel and offer great deals.
When I came back, it was my sg that kept me going. If not for my sg and what remains of the copvp community, I would have uninstalled in two weeks or less.
There's nothing to keep people interested. When I started 2011, I wanted to see what this game had to offer. 2 years later, and the content is almost entirely the same, save for a few alerts. Short of extremely rare alert boss costume unlocks, most game drops have little to no value. Everything worthwhile now revolves around lockboxes.
The necessary legacy device nerf came way to late, and I have seen people quit over it. Now dodge/avoid is getting slashed across the board, with complete disregard for its impact. If we can agree that pop is low, when people like myself start leaving because of "balancing" changes, that doesn't bode well for those who choose to stay behind.
Wow, just under 500 people on a game with "Matrix" in the title? That game must have been god-awful.
Too many people can't discuss the population without panic attacks, insults, general trolling or empty threats.
The point of showing the population is to discuss the population.
The population shows that there is very little incentive for PWE to support this game.
It shows that the death of CoX has had very little impact on the population of the game.
This thread like many I've posted in before shows that there is a problem with people being
able to play content in a team. We just had a discussion about teaming in another thread, a bunch
of you said this isn't a team friendly game, while you are ignoring 98% of the games population, their conversations, and their questions.
People have brought obvious issues with the game up in this thread with their own confessions.
That's the point of posting.
Oh it was and it wasn't. One of the main problems was avatar customization. That was really godawful. The combat however was another thing entirely. It was very complex in some ways. Also the environment was cool in that most buildings in the wide expanse were accessible, so we could pick a building and claim it as a hq of sorts.
The intricate combat system is what brought a few of my guildies over here, so I'm still glad I got to play it warts and all. But the population thing was no joke, I joined like 18 months before the shutdown, thoroughly excited (I was brand new to mmo's and thought the Matrix franchise would have been a huge draw) logged in and did not see another player for the first ten days or so.
And holy crap....MXO....that brings back some memories.
It's not Jackie Chan...
Some of us are still quite interested in this game indeed. Are we not people?

That's the responsibility of running an MMO. Making new content because players stopped playing content that's 3 years old. And removing the rewards worth playing it beyond the first few times.
And players don't flock to this game because of it. Yes, I'm blaming the company and everyone involved for the lack of players.
This book was required reading in my statistics class. I learned it well.
Don't p&%# on my shoes and tell me it's raining. I count at least three things on this list that you try every time you make one of these troll posts.
They're not there in the beginning, but when your story ends / Gonna last with you longer than your friends
and in your other thread, you want people to join the Cox channel and say there's 80 people online across the 3 games at any time. yet you can't get 4 together to do Nemcon with you.
I see people advertising in Zone for Nemcon the times I'm on, which is usually around 11pm-1am server time, except on weekends and they have no trouble filling teams. Usually within 5-10minutes.
me I'm quite happy levelling alts and redoing the content over and over. I see no reason to do Nemcon because I have to no reason to.
Same as IN WOW I didn't do the gear grind dungeons because I saw no reason to, I didn't want the gear and i could do another character.(yes I was an alt- aholic there too)
Good on you for teaming with new people to show them around, I'll stick to answering questions on zone and handing out free items.

Did Next's latest thread solve all the problems of the game yet?
Oh, it didn't solve anything?
And it didn't inform anyone of anything either?
It just made us even more tired of him?
That's weird.
That's really really weird.
Really really really really weird.
Huh.

Since you insist on being a contrarian, I can only conclude that you have just declared your undying love for Next. And that you secretly want to see him asap, not just in a week or so. I would caution you to take things slowly so you don't scare him off. Good luck lovebirds!
My super cool CC build and how to use it.
But...the zone chat is terrible most of the time >_>
Exactly my point. If you truly wished well for the game, you wouldn't title a thread like this, "State of the game month/year" you'd instead post something like, "How can we as a community help increase game population" and then not fill it with hyperbolic statistics.
Just being who or what he is.
That's it, classic Troll strategy.
Your real intent here is to carefully prod the forum community with annoying threads until someone else breaks and loses their temper, and calls you what you are, what we all know you are at least here on the forumsl A troll. As pointed out elsewhere, even if you really are some kind of saint in-game, you're a troll here.
Then title your thread "Low Population numbers are impacting new player experience", Troll.
Then make that a different F'n thread, and title it appropriately, such as "Hey, I'm an annoying jerk and want to guilt trip all you happy players into wasting your time trying to help all those PUGgie players you spend so much of your time actively avoiding with the game's built in social tools"
Which is not your responsibility, and I'd appreciate it if you took up your weird control freak issues with Trailturtle directly. Leave us out of it.
And for farks' sake, stop making melodramatic thread titles, try speaking plainly like you would if you were eye to eye with a peer, not talking down at someone you were trying to 'teach a valuable lesson too', with a parable.
Not a single person here signed up for your class.
