In STO, you can earn dilithium-fairly easy too thanks to a bit of thought and Doff missions, and exchange that with people for the Zen they bought. Is there a system like that in this game now too, this Questionite stuff I've vaguely read about?

Yes, but the Questionite exchange isn't so favorable as the Dilithium exchange, possibly because Zen is more useful in CO than STO. To get to the Exchange, click on the Questionite Store button, then look for the Zen button (IIRC) at the bottom of that screen.

Right now, I'm working on getting enough Q to buy Zen to unlock another Archetype (I'm debating between Savage, because it's good at soloing, or Squall, so I can use the shark pieces in the tailor and create a toon named Sharknado). At the rate this afternoon, I'm about ten thousand short, but with the current Drifter Daily, I can do that in a day or so, on my several alts. (To trade Q from one toon to another, put it up for sale at 50 Q per Zen - nobody will buy it at that price - then go to the toon you want it on, cancel the sale, and withdraw the Q.)

As a side note, if you're wondering why the price of Questionite per Zen has gone up so much recently, need only consider the following:
    • Supply boost of Questionite ; we had a double questionite weekend not that long ago
    • Demand boost for Zen ; there was a new lockbox that came out recently that has a number of all new Sharkfin costume unlocks many people want to get their creative hands on

Even a beginner's understanding of economics should make it obvious as to why the price shifted, and frankly I'm surprised it didn't shift more.

Also, saying "earn Zen" is very correct of you to say, because in truth the Zen on the Questionite exchange wasn't "free" it came from somebody else who paid for it. In essence, if you buy Questionite off the exchange, you are being paid for your labor of farming Questionite by somebody who had Zen and posted it for trade. People buying Zen are employees of the people selling Zen, in a rough sense. Just something to muse about.

As the saying goes, there's no such thing as a free lunch!

If you try to farm 100 zen, it's more then 25k Q.
If you farm normally, it will take whole day or more.

One big difference between STO and CO is that CO has nothing like the DOFF system.

You can not log in, take a few minutes filling up the DOFF assignments, and come back later with questionite to refine.

You actually have to run missions/alerts to earn questionite (or just buy Zen and sell it for questionite for those so inclined).

But yes, as noted, questionite is this games 'dilithium', with gear purchased directly or you can convert it into Zen.
