Okay, curious as I just don't know the numbers...

Build 1) Uses a Damage form (Concentration, Enrage, MA Form, what have you) to get to max damage!

Build 2) Uses IDF!

Is it possible to get an IDF using build to the Damage Form's damage level through other means? Whether it be gear or difference specs/stats? Maybe higher Offense to account for the lack of Damage Form?

I wonder this because of Diminishing Returns. Still confused on that. :/

    I know this much:

IDF - scales horribly wherever it is used.

I'd say critical strikes and critical severity would be your best bet if you want to attempt the same damage output maybe?

I am not certain but I don't think you can actually match the damage output of a Damage Form using build when using a "Form" power like IDF instead.

I know for a fact that my damage would be considerably more appealing on my ForceGirl if I turned on Concentration instead of IDF. But I value my PFF too much :3

I'd say if you spec'd and statted for offense and made a build with IDF you may stand a chance of getting that balance between max defense and max offense you are looking for.

I haven't got any numbers to shout about, but I know other forumites may.

Just have a TK concept that IDF fits nicely (comic book superheroes putting TK force bubbles around their allies) but was trying to determine how to do that and still stay offensive. :)

Is there a cap at which powers hit? I see the difference between SS DEX and EGO on my main, but it really doesn't feel like that much of a difference. DEX feels to have small non crit hits, bigger crit hits, while EGO has bigger non crit hits than DEX PSS but smaller crits. The difference SEV can make on those crits for sure...but in the end it feels about the same amount of damage is being applied.

My best guess would be Dex PSS and use off/def gear n best def agg stance. Then stack a ton of Ego for the dmg buff. So no dodge/avoid but lots of dmg resist. Maybe around 600 offense and like +50% from high ego.

I use IDF. I like it just fine.

I am Free Form. My concept was being a power null, or absorbing damage. My damage output is still really good. But I geared for Crits, and stacked Ego for ranged. Ego, Dex, Pres, are ,my mains, and I stack recovery to keep the energy flowing.

I run IDF with Invuln both at rank three. My toon is versatile though, and I also have a support form where I use bubbles to protect my team. I also run IDF with AoRG so it gives essentially Invuln to the entire team.

    To me it works ok.

But it depends on personal taste.

Because of diminishing returns, stacking more additive damage bonuses would pull the IDF variant closer to the same build with a damage-boosting form (aside from Mental Discipline, which gives a multiplicative buff).

Cycling multiple Active Offenses during combat would definitely help, as well as what Monsterdaddy mentioned. Another problem is energy management, since IDF does not return energy; and having to use your energy builder will take a bite out of your DPS.

I had wondered on this! Active Offenses! Outside of the additional crit chance, their +DMG doesn't seem to be helping my damage all that much. As I have 2 AO's which I can almost always keep 1 up since I have enough cool down on them (~30 second cool down on my AOs with 15 second up times).

Now that's on a character with 2 AOs and Concentration. I'm only seeing about +100 Damage. So if I repeat this on a character with 2 AOs but IDF instead...would I have the same damage output, as the +DMG from the AOs wouldn't get hit so hard?

You'll always deal more damage with more additive damage bonus, but the difference will become smaller with a greater total additive damage bonus. Offense, superstats, role, EGO/STR, additive form, choice of passive, star bonus, certain specs, and Questionite +damage set gear all contribute to that total.

As far as I know, the calculation for the additive damage diminishing returns curve is still a bit of a mystery; but you can run a quick test with your other character. Build 8 stacks of Concentration, use an Active Offense, and check the damage on the tooltip. Then turn off Concentration (wait until the auto-stack disappears) and use the same Active Offense. Also make sure your Audacity stacks are the same, since I think you're referring to your Quarry character.

That would show the damage difference for Concentration versus IDF for that particular build.

As far as I know IDF has no effect on actual damage, it simply acts like a 50' radius version of invulnerability affecting yourself and teammates, with a slight penalty to energy return.
To my impulse it's indispensable when combined with PFF, it means my defenses don't take damage from most mob attacks. That in and of itself means I survive longer and end up doing more damage to the enemy in turn. As far as damage goes I simply gear for ego whenever possible, and pick those specializations that boost offense and/or damage.

    Yeah. Ran the test...

Concentration Toggle with AO in place was about 2500-3000 per tick of 2GM
IDF Toggle with AO in place was about 2400-2800 per tick of 2GM

Didn't really notice a difference in Energy Use though.

I would not run a test because the numbers can be deceiving. Just mouse over your power and tooltip will show you the base damage. That's much more accurate.

Two Gun Mojo is very low on energy use, you probably can do max DPS on just the Energy Unlock.

From your numbers above it doesn't look like you have too much INT/EGO for high Concentration buffs anyway so IDF isn't too big a deal. Stacking more EGO is probably the easiest route to increasing damage (the ranged damage buff) if you are already deep into critical chance DR.

    hmmm...what's not to much?

    EGO is 194 (before Quarry)
    INT is 297 (before Quarry)
    CON is 313

    Primary Off: R7 LGx2, R8 INTx2
Secondary Off: Crit Belt +44 EGO

    Primary Def: R8 LGx2, R7 CON, R8 INT
Secondary Def: Armored Bracers +44 EGO

    Primary Uti: R7 IMx2, R8 CONx2
    Secondary Uti: +20 CON/+20 INT

When gear/mods gets me to 300 INT, I was going to retcon talents to focus more on EGO. Should I be focusing more on EGO? It doesn't seem to be help my Crit Sev that much by adding roughly 90 EGO with Quarry (about 4% Crit Sev).
