About the lag issue that may involve all the adds, I would like to request that all Millennium City traffic be turned off during this event to reduce lag. The inevitable pile up of cars happens specifically around the building because it seems that whenever a player loads into an area more cars spawn and cause the problem to get worse.
I made this suggestion last year, so I hope that someone notices this time around.

Or they could, you know, heaven forbid, FIX THE ONE SINGLE TRAFFIC LIGHT THAT HAS BEEN BROKEN FOR A YEAR NOW.
On the flip side, shows how well the traffic simulation works in CO - you can get backups like this.
I really believe that the groups of invading destroids on the outside do not feel like invaders.
What would help this immensely is if the master villains and enforcers of the destroid groups scattered about the city spawned packs of running patrols at a finite rate. These running patrols would make the invasion feel more alive.
Also a recommendation: When Destroyer completes his speech, why not use that to trigger a swell of destroid actvity in a random neighborhood that spawns a mega destroid and a level 60 version of Gigaton or Black Talon?
At the moment this event feels very non-threatening, and the destroids that are not part of the open mission feel wrong with their behavior.

Yeah. I am not too fond of them crowding the Champs HQ, since that is also where Fatal Err0r missions are which people may run on a daily basis.
It feels like more of a house/localized invasion of privacy for the Champs HQ than an "INVASION OF MILLENNIUM CITY!!"
I posted a vid of what the invasion "ideally" would be like with the Champions running around fighting in and around MC with heroes against the Mega D's
Would make it more interesting and engaging than everyone stuck around Champs HQ. (whilst UNTIL HQ is right across the road and they are just watching us get attacked in their nice, safe office )
Ok, it's likely way too late to be saying something like this(mentioned it to a dev before if that counts) but I have only ever done one event made by Cryptic that actually felt like an Invasion. That would be the Neverwinter End of Beta Invasion. Ok, so here's a video. Now I'll do my best to translate this into CO.
The Invasion happens in 2 stages. The 1st one has multiple portal sites set up accross the city where groups of trooper bots and the occasional gun drone spawn. Into that mix a few Destroids and Annihilator Bots but not that many. This would be roughly 10-15m worth of spawns and such and would restart every 30m(top and bottom of the hour reguardless).
Phase 2 is when it hits the fan. 10m worth of absolute hell in the same spots with the aforementioned spawns and 1 Giant Destroid every 3m (2 in total). After the second Giant Destroid falls....1 Mega-Destroid spawns. When the 10m is up, it all despawns. Then you get 5m to breathe and it starts again....and again....and so on nonstop until the event ends.
Loot: The normal loot tables for these spawns is completely disabled. This event also uses the LvL X(scary tech) so as long as you're like 15+ it should be doable. The drop tables would be a "NEW" Core which can only be obtained from this event and possibly future events of this style(this is how NW does it and I kinda like it to be honest). The new Core provides a split boost to 2 different things. So, random example, Off: +Critical Strike + Crit Severity but since it's split both would add up to what you would get if you were just slotting for one of these. It's cute and can be somewhat useful for avoiding various DRs. These Cores would drop rank to level appropriate with 3s and 4s being the highest for 40s since the point is to get alot of them and build them up. To go with this the event would also drop "Invasion Recognition" which could be used at the Ren Center Quartermaster(guy doesn't get enough work) to buy TEMP versions of the Backup Devices and maybe an AF and/or unlock or two. The PERM Backup Devices would be a rare-ish completely random distribution from the Mega-Destroid if it is killed AND also a chance for one to be given out to the top 5 people ranking per site(this should not rank per zone but per site). This way the people who build to do the lionshare of the work here can have a shot as well as those who are just trying their little hearts out but might not be doing that great. IMO, this approach covers both bases. When the current "attack" ends everybody who contributed gets 1 Invasion Recognition reguardless.
In closing, this "Invasion" feels like an invasion because it's almost relentless. It doesn't stop. It barely gives you a breather between attacks. This, IMO, feels like you're fighting back an armada into the portals to actually save the city and doesn't involve endlessly hopping from zone to zone trying to find the action because...the action is EVERYWHERE around you.
Like I said though, it's likely too late for such a thing but this is only one example of the smallish events that NW has been churning out which I believe would do quite well in CO as hand-me-down content.
Am I the only one who's annoyed it feels like we're the benchwarmers while we try in vain to fight beside the Champions against enemies that are vastly superior?
The Champions were 40 before, and they kept falling to the ground during last year's PTS test because their AI is not good enough to avoid level 60 mega-destroid attacks. There were complaints about their incompetence, so the Champions were buffed to 60 for that fight.
Am I the only one who's annoyed it feels like we're the benchwarmers while we try in vain to fight beside the Champions against enemies that are vastly superior?
This. This exactly. Why are we 20 levels below the Champions? Shouldn't the fight at bare minimum be scaled to level 40, so my four year veteran character doesn't feel like a chump?
I still fondly remember the original Anniversary event - basically like the trailer linked to above. Regular Mega-Ds spawning all around MC. That really felt epic in scope, despite being 'generic' in a way.
This works but...part of me wants that original event back.
Level 60 Mega D's + Skull level Adds which continually spawn throughout the fight.
Anyone can survive the damage from all sources IF they block forever (or have access to high particle damage resistance, so either Electric Form OR the new passive when it comes out). You dare to fight back and you might not end up so well..
The Champions are really powerful so, advice here would be to significantly buff their threat abilities or something to outlast high DPS toons who will no doubt be in this event.
Ranged again will be the superior choice for this event, survival and damage wise. Melee Tanks and healers will be key to success alongside mass debuffing.
ForceGirl my PFFer was overwhelmed by the amount of adds and both Mega D's, but managed to hold her own. (Only toon of mine I have tested)
Destroyer Waves are dealing around 23-27k damage per wave.
Left to their own devices Champs will tank, DPS and win out against a full scale assault.
I would personally like to see the adds removed, they are kind of distracting and annoying.
The Champions are split into three primary groups:
Defender and Sapphire
Witchcraft and Nighthawk
Ironclad and Kinetik
I found that when you contact one pair of Champions (by agroing the Mega Ds on to them) the others appear and assist.
actually dps toons will likely die through block to the aoe spikes the Mega D's put out. as far as
forcegirl and her PFF, I have feedback from more PFF using friends, it seems the fight just isnt PFF friendly. (perhaps dr destroyer has contacts with VIPER?)
Granted if you try to fight for too long without turtling up for a bit you can quickly become best friends with the floor and the re spawn point.
The event works well with PFF, no Pulson to undermine it.
The issue is the actual design of PFF itself, i.e when you go past 60-50% PFF, it gets drastically weaker, that is just a mechanical issue with PFF I guess, one of many.
It's just like normal gameplay really, as long as you watch yourself you'll be fine.
The D Wave damage was around 250 to self with PFF active so not bad at all. I found the D wave and the Micro Munitions attacks to be the most harmful to PFF.
But then again the age old rule applies to PFF as it always has been: Never fully rely on your shields.
22-23k Destroyer Wave was the base damage, not the actual amount I got hit for. So Electric Form toons will do well I reckon due to the energy type damage, but be sure to pack healing ofc.
To me it seemed that most of the time the AOEs of two of them did not completely overlap. It was possible to be only in the blast of one of them, which seemed quite survivable at lvl 40.
Hint: each of the fin-shaped protrusions from the columns surrounding HQ block 100% of the damage from the aoe and can be used to make the megadestroid ai forget you, as other line of sight breaks can.
so much butthurt over backup devices. the ONLY thing that makes the backups special is teh amount of damage they can do. remove the shared cooldown and let cooldown be affected by INT/CDR stat. Gimp the deivces, and there will be absolutely NO reason to do the event.
you earn these devices. can they be abused? sure they can, just like any skill in the game. keep in mind. they are level 60 devices, 20 levels above us. wont we be hitting similar numbers at level 60 with optimum gear? i would think so.
example: Nighthawk backup hits for 15 k with each ricochet throw before damage reduction, he throws on average ~5-6 before he times out. my ricochet throws deal a damn good % of that damage at level 40.
tl:dr: if you want teh backups "in line" make them level 40 and remove the stupid cooldown restrictions.
