Mechatopia: A Brief History

There once was a great intergalactic society of peaceful lore keepers. These Keepers knew that one of the most important callings in the universe was the preservation of species facing extinction. To protect these dying species the Keepers would place them on Reserve Planets. This process was observed for generations, until a Reserve Planet was destroyed by a super nova, this tragedy was later called the Deradda Incident named for the planet that was destroyed. Realizing that they had failed many species, the Keepers sought to adapt and make sure that they not only protected the universe's life forms but that they would have a way to "resurrect" these beings if anything like the Deradda Incident ever happened again.

The way the Keepers intended on accomplishing their task was to create a sort of planetary entity that would act as a repository. This was the origin of Mechatopia. The Keepers then sought to make autonomous robotic overseers that would protect and seek out DNA from endangered species. This was the origin of the Mechatopians, sometimes called Mechanoids. For ages the Mechanoids worked alongside the Keepers to defend Reserve Planets and analyze, sort, and store protected DNA.

In time, the Keepers disappeared. Almost overnight the Mechanoids' creators simply vanished. At first the Mechanoids continued their appointed duties; cataloging DNA and protecting endangered life. Centuries after the disappearance of the Keepers, some Mechanoids began to question their lot in life and began to aspire to something more. Spurred on by a charismatic leader these breakaway Mechanoids, called Negatrons, began a civil war that tore Mechatopia asunder. To this day the repository planet is not entirely rebuilt.

The result of the civil war was that the Mechanoids became isolationists and because they had driven the Negatrons from Mechatopia, they had unleashed a terrible evil into the galaxy. After centuries of tending only to their own sector of space the Mechanoids were horrified to learn that the outcast mechs had begun to build their own intragalactic empire. Entire planets and civilizations had been enslaved and even wiped out. The Mechanoids felt they had caused a greater injustice than the Deradda Incident.

In a response to the growin Negatron Empire, the Mechanoids set out to subvert them where they could. They formed a special military that would deal with galactic affairs called the Protectrons. These Protectrons would defend sentient lives, seek out new civilizations to protect and make contact with, and even seek and destroy Negatrons where they could. Some basic types of Protectrons are; scoutbots, warriors, sentinels, and medicons. Scoutbots are seekers, either of new life, sentients in need of Protectron defense, or dreaded Negatrons in need of scrapping. Warriors are the sword with which the Mechanoids will carve out the Negatron infection. Sentinels are leaders meant to guide warriors and oversee the defense of sentients. Medicons are field medics trained to heal, repair, and restore damaged/destroyed mechs.

A young Protectron called Steel Sentinel discovered that a lone Negatron had discovered a backwater world that hosted sentient life. The evil mech planned on bringing more Negatrons to the planet. In order to not draw attention to the planet, Steel Sentinel set out alone to confront the Negatron called Iron Tyrant. Unfortunately Iron Tyrant managed to send out his signal and the Negatrons would soon descend upon the planet Earth.

Earth was not defenseless; they had heroes, champions of their own, but Steel Sentinel knew that they had other concerns and the Negatrons were only on Earth because of Mechanoid failure. He sent out a distress call to any Protectrons in his sector of the galaxy, to come to the Sol system as soon as possible. Already Steel Sentinel has had a response, he hopes to receive more...

Shortly after Steel Sentinel arrived on Earth the United Nations took notice. They sent agents to confront the mechanical alien. Steel Sentinel understood their concern and met with world leaders, they inquired toward his intentions on Earth and his motives. Once they realized that they had a mutual goal in mind, to stop Iron Tyrant, the humans were willing to work with Steel Sentinel.

Together, while hunting the Negatron, Steel Sentinel and his human allies shed blood and oil together in a mission to bring peace to the small blue world. The U.N. had other ideas in mind as well however. Whenever Steel Sentinel lost pieces of metal or oil, the government agents were quick to scoop them up, sending them to a hidden lab for analysis. Using these bits of their ally the scientists were able to discover all new compounds and elements.

It didn't take long for a brilliant young man named Akimoto Shigehito to begin dreaming up inventions based on this alien tech. With the proper funding and political backing Shigehito was able to begin what he called Project: Paladin. After only a few years of experimentation he was successful in the creation of Paladin VII, the first completely autonomous mechanoid like being created by man.

Eventually Shigehito would create the beginnings of an entirely new species. The Gaiatrons became steadfast allies to both the mechanoids and humans. The majority of gaiatrons would take animals, dinosaurs, and vehicles as their alt-forms. They would consider Earth their home and would defend her to the death!
