Champions did come in a box U_U

nephtnepht Posts: 6,883 Arc User
Right yesterday in ren cen I had an argument with a misguided person he claimed that Champions was made by Perfect World in 2010 and there was never a box. He said ok then show us a pic. Well here you go the freaking box! I have a couple of comic/game shops and I've had these in stock since 2009.

Excuse the poor lighting the store room lights arnt that great.

Also in Edinburgh area ( refitting my computer store there ^_^ ) so yes that is indeed the PAL version.

He also claimed that Champions isnt a PnP game but I'll leave that for others to rage about :D

I originally bought mine in a box from Best Buy too, although I eventually switch to steam so I didn't need the cd to run the game...since I played it so much.

Hey for that $59.99 you could get 500 zen! Worth it in my book.

Also there might be some exclusive content tied to it like the Grond action figure. It's a $80 value, just ask Neverwinter.

Course, we don't even need to look at the Founders packs. It's what, $40 bucks for a mount? For one character?

Yes I did. I don't regret it (even though I'm not even playing) but their proposed dollar amount of what the pack was worth seemed extremely arbitrary; that's what the joke was about.

And no, any mounts you buy with Zen are useable by all your characters.

I?m a sucker for boxes and I actually read manuals before I play. I have the Champions Online box even though I bought a lifetime subscription.

    Also..

I have all the CoH/V boxes as well as the little figures that came with them. I have Freedom Force 1, Icewind Dale (with expansions) boxes. I have the first two Diablo boxes and the expansions. I have the original Baulder?s Gate box (the big one) with its expansions as well. I have the all of the Wing Commander (including Privateer) with expansions - except WC 4 (idiot me loaned to a friend and he moved before giving it back). I have others but I?m not at home to see them? and yes, they all are on a shelf like a really cool library!

For the big bag, it's like 10 bucks for one, per character. Not bound, so I guess there's some merit if you're the kind that likes to run lots of alts. But that game doesn't make you alt-crazy like Champs does.

I'm probably showing my age a bit here, but remember when Computer Games used to come with actual BOOKS? I mean, real, actual 100+ page works of fiction built on the setting of the Game? I think I still have the original one from the very first Sid Myers' Pirates! game for the C64 sitting around on a forgotten shelf somewhere................

No, but there IS an in depth, 20 page section with full colour illustrations, detailing the finer points of Beacon Maintenance.

The move to digital stuff has made me very happy, because I hate having a huge box of CDs/DVDs to wade through to install stuff.

There's a twinge of nostalgia for old cloth maps and whatnot, but it's buried under so many times I've been unable to play a game because I can't find the damn disk.

Yeah some people love digital due to the space saved and sales of gift type cards for various types of DLC have skyrocketed so not selling that many boxes of any type of game hasnt impacted me at all. Seems digital is the future. Shop wise I gotta move with the times.

But me I like having a collection of hard copies, I have a room full games harking back to the Atari 2600, I even have a copy of E.T the game ( officially the worst game ever made \o/ ).

Ah yes, going way back in time I had all the original Ultima boxes as well. I still have the cloth maps and the ankh that came in one.

    I here that!
I finally gave up and went Steam for just about all of my games after a truly wondrous slump where every boxed game I got for the best part of a year was damaged right out of the box. Usually, it was on Disk 37 of 43, 9hrs. into the Install process. Then it's try to uninstall, fail, manually erase, back to the store, exchange game, head home reinstall, this time realise that I have 2 disk 42's, but no 43's, repeat. Stores closed. Wait for tomorrow. Repeat again. SUCCESS!!!!!!!!! Start up game. Wait through credits. Now it won't recognise the Game Disk anymore. Uninstall Back to the store. Specifically the Hardware Store. Purchase Chain Saw. Problem solved.

I still have my physical box. Purchased it from Wal-Mart back at launch.

It had a "holographic" front cover, included a color version of the booklet Nepht posted, an Iron-On Champions Online Logo, and a map of each Zone that was included at launch. Sadly, I no longer have the booklet, but I still have the other items in question.

Due to the limitations of the forums, I will have to make two separate posts for images.

My apologies in advance for the low quality of the images.

I wasn't aware that they still printed software on floppies.

Anyway, yeah... I'm a big hard copy type of person because I insist on having something tangible to hold. I even burn digital stuff to CD when there is no actual CDs available.

Yes I did. I don't regret it (even though I'm not even playing) but their proposed dollar amount of what the pack was worth seemed extremely arbitrary; that's what the joke was about.

    I got it and laughed:wink:

I wish I took a picture I was just there this weekend too and saw the boxes, and thought wow 60 bucks for a 4 year old game. This same store was selling CoH/CoV 6 months after it shut down. Imagine buying that and then getting home and...whut?

Hey would it be worthwhile trying to acquire a box from eBay or Amazon (assuming it wasn't opened)? I got some sealed STO boxes that way and the codes in there gave me some cool exclusive stuff. I'm not sure if CO even has the ability to redeem old box codes, or what they would grant if it can...

Yeh, people do that from time to time.
I haven't heard of anyone not being able to claim their prize yet.
And most of those have SOME sort of prize, ranging from Pets, to Costumes, to nice little Devices that give small, yet often cool looking, bonuses to your Toons. For instance I have an item that makes my arms glow from a Pre-Order package.

'Wen considered the nature of time and understood that the universe is, instant by instant, recreated anew. Therefore, he understood, there is in truth no past, only a memory of the past. Blink your eyes, and the world you see next did not exist when you closed them. Therefore, he said, the only appropriate state of the mind is surprise. The only appropriate state of the heart is joy. The sky you see now, you have never seen before. The perfect moment is now. Be glad of it.' Terry Pratchet The Thief Of Time
