Please. Cutscenes get old fast and it's something that needs doing. If you want to watch, then watch. If you don't want to, skip it.

It's something players deserve to have command over

It's been mentioned that in some cases, things are set up behind the scenes during cutscenes, and skipping them screws things up.

Also, hiw do you deal with in-mission cut scenes in a team? One person skips it and runs ahead while the rest watch? One can force the whole team to skip it? Everyone has to choose to skip it for it to end (meaning one person can force everyone to watvh it)?

It's better to ask them to make shorter cut scenes that aren't so intrusive. As cool as the new Fatal Err0r cut scenes are, their combined length is longer than the mission. And now the mission isn't just repeatable for its rewards, it's required to farm it for the new perks and action figures.

If possible, make things like Socrates' last communication play while you're doing stuff. There's no need to stop to listen to her.

Its ok Cut Scene Person, we love you and what you do, just not so often that we get blisters.

It seems at least partially they're beginning to do more and more cutscenes on client-side. Since On-Alert (in fact, maybe even as far back as Aftershock), with the inclusion of the skippable modding and powerhouse tutorials, Cryptic's switched from actually moving in-game NPCs around the map to using temporary actors for visual stuff and hiding other things. The method would allow for skipping cutscenes without issue, except that there is, of course, the issue of seeing cutscenes on teams. The other is that, when minimizing and retabbing back into the game, the client-side actors are liable to kind of bug out. And fall through the ground.

What could be a good compromise is dialogue playing while you're still able to do other things. Neverwinter partially does this, as questgivers continue to babble about whatever bull**** they've sent you off to do after accepting the mission (though, the problem is that they always seem to get interrupted after you get too far away.) Other modern games also seem to be going with this, with stuff like Kid Icarus Uprising (which has those flying sections that blend gameplay together with cutscene, exposition, and dialogue stuff - and taking a lot of advantage of the exact timing that can be generated with an on-rails shooter) and Borderlands 2 (which is a more annoying example, as I'm a bit too busy getting killed by that badass goliath to figure out what you're saying mordecai, OK?!)

During cutscenes, I visit the CO forums. Why you think I'm on here making essay-length posts so often?

SWTOR has a cutscene for EVERY mission. You just hit the spacebar to skip it over. If you are in a team, you can still hit spacebar, but you get ...waiting on players... message to let you know that someone is still watching the cutscene. When everyone hits the spacebar, the game continues.

In PONG there is no cutscenes.
Stuff works differently in different games.

True, but this game already has the "ESC" to skip over the intro to zones. Probably could just use the same mechanic for all other cutscenes. Start with the Nemesis ones first
