All of Westside, City Center and Downtown deserted.
The Crisis, the disaster, the desert the great white north, dead zones.
Monster Island and Vibora Bay are open graves.
The RP locations people begged for and the ones added are not used.
There are many powerhouse theatres, mostly empty most of the time.
The powerhouse arena, nobody is ever in.
The questionite exchange building, City Hall, Champions Headquarters are big empty buildings to socialize it.
UNITY building can fit like 20 or more people, its been empty every time I've been there in the last 20 months.
You don't need more of anything. Players need to stop squandering what they have.
Having said that the 3 million players that Cryptic has squandered are not returning for the same old crap.
This game needs a face lift, hard core changes that makes people say "Wow" not the "There's no point in crafting?" and "There's no point in running lairs?" and "There's no good drops?""There's only 300 people online?" situation they've been running on.
My solution is to flip the game over, put Vibora Bay as the start to mid-high levels.
Save the world in the apocalypse, but time travel to an alternate Millenium City when its done instead of Vibora. A city that is twice as infested with DEMON, Destroids, Gadroons and Lemurians than the newbie zone we are used to. Blow down some buildings and make their wasted space playable entity swarmed locations.
Make Poe and Psi a desperate band of outlaw freedom fighters/slavers.
Make Argent like a cyborg army cannibalizing man and machine.
Turn Viper into mutated power armor lizard men with rocket packs and laser eyes.
Purple Gang, Maniacs and Red Banner need to run raiding parties on locations and each others installations, not loiter aimlessly 24/7. In the desperate MC there's no need for pointless NPC vehicles only hideous and deadly siege vehicles rumbling along firing rockets and flame throwers in every direction.
Champions Online: Flipside
Is it more social? Will be for me, ,just add players instead of bleeding them.
Even already existing social areas are empty, even Caprice can have less than 30 people in it (across all its instances).
Nighthawk event was hardly popular, and even Forum Malvanum did not scored crowds.
Who exactly is supposed to fill any new social instances?
Game's bleeding playerbase like sick with Ebola fever. Social stuff is a nice thing, but first this game needs real development. Something playable.
The problem here has been crystal clear for me right from the beginning.
In total, we have 6 "zones": Millenium City, Canada, the Desert, Monster Island, Lemuria, & Vibora Bay. They're filled to the brim with missions, their own Powerhouses, vendors, and tons of safe space for dueling & role-playing. At one point, it was common-place to see an equal amount of players in each and every zone...

...and then came the Smash Alerts.
Well said, you can literally stand in one spot in MC and level from 6 to 40, it's a shame really. I understand that for those who have several alts that don't always want to repeat the same missions again and again, but it's certainly a different game if you are brand new and think that Alerts are the only way to level in the game.
There's so much in the game already that isn't being used as intended, some of it broken but the rest is just... wasted. (I can't really say much myself though I rarely leave the PHT, unless it's to take care of random SG stuff or to work on occasional perks, but that's just me.) It would be nice to see new areas and new content, but we really need to fix what's there already before these glitches continue to snowball into something worse than what we have now.

Alerts increased the player population and has maintained it somewhat.
People were vanishing from the game months before Alert came out.
People were not out in the zones leveling.
Adventure Packs and Comics suck people out of the general population for an hour or more.
Before On Alert thousands of players cheated their way to 40 and countless character slots using the Resistance xp, money, loot exploit. Soon as that hole was fixed I notice a big die off.
Then came back to back double XP. I saw another die off after that.
Then came the holidays, talk about dead.
On Alert doubled the average population.
Now here we are a year later, back to December 2011 player population.
Let me tell you about Smash alerts, people suck, people are lazy, its not the smash alerts fault. Seriously, since day one here at Champions I've met losers moving through this game that say "I hate running missions" and scum from other MMOs that trail along behind the team soaking XP and not contributing.
Smash alerts are great, Champions Online needs a new class of player.
Everyone should be me!

They should by all means continue to give an XP boost. But it is BAD DESIGN to allow direct HP from any Alert that exceeds the rest of the game you've made.
Its clear that the people who work at Champions Online have no respect for history. Hell I'd say they are as apathetic of the history of the game as they are ignorant of it.
But it is BAD DESIGN to allow direct HP from any Alert that exceeds the rest of the game you've made.
The game they made and sold in the box wasn't working to attract and keep the masses.
Parts worked and they replicated them with On Alert.
People asked for an alternate leveling path and got it.
You can go through Alerts, you can grind Poe, you can grind the city mission chain or skip that and only run citizen missions, you can do Comics and Adventure Packs til ya puke, then you can go grind the Canada Crisis til your brain freezes, or move on to City Center, or the other Canada, and if you like that sort of thing there's the filthy deserts and eventually a vibora for the college level character. Bang your level 30 before you can blink and its time for Monster Island and Lemuria and the Apocalypse, or Smash smash smash til you pop!
The forums were positive about readily available timed XP buffs to activate at their
leisure so using it up wasn't a big pressure like the double XP thing.
People asked for more teaming, with greater rewards for doing it.
SMASH!
Two birds, one stone.
People cried "Its too easy" and at some point I ranted "Give the people who want the game
to be hard a nearly unstoppable villain on a rampage."
When I first got one shotted by Gravitar I felt no satisfaction.
I hope you enjoy your foe.
RokoruCarisu suggested a "heal the barriers" mission where waves of enemies came to destroy some walls or whatnot.
He got Sky Command to 'heal the engines".
I suggested a "waves of enemies mission" while remaing cryptic about the game I wanted them to be inspired by. and we got the Forum Malvonum instead of Killing Floor.
My fault, I should have been clear "Copy this exactly but with super beings"
Pretty sure we asked for a way to all get to missions without having to wait for everyone to travel there and drag all the aggro in the world or have to figure out how to change zones to meet up. On Alert solved that.
The mission content as it existed from day one wears people down: Go here, go there, loading screen, fight, loading screen, mission journal, crime computer, go here, go there, loading screen, fight, loading screen, mission journal, crime computer. Go here, go there, loading screen, fight, loading screen, mission journal, crime computer, go here, go there, loading screen, fight, loading screen, mission journal, crime computer.BARF.
And that's even easier than it used to be with all the running to quest givers.
Which people still do and they get bored very fast doing that.
On Alert is a solution to getting people to play content together and see other heroes in action without having to beg for a buddy for twenty minutes...
which brings me back to the OP somewhat.
I made a new buddy yesterday when I heard the call I've heard a thousand times "Can I get help with Purple Reign?"
He was very receptive and quick to learn, good humor, and pretty much instantly sleeplessly hooked on the game.
Turns out he's a role player, I'm not, so between alerts and quests he's spending his time in zone
politely trying to get an RP SG to give him the time of day.
A hour, absolutely nothing, not even the offer of advice of where to find an RP SG.
Its the people that are a problem not the content, not the game engine, not the programming. You can create your own social instances simply by being social and immersing yourself in the game enough to share it with the other people playing it!
If you can't be with the content you want, want the content you're with.
Forget new social zones, you know what we need? All the old social zones back. You know, the crafting shops in the city that vanished without a trace when they gutted crafting. Sure, there's no gameplay reason to have them there anymore but that doesn't mean they should be removed entirely. They still make good RP and social spots.
We have those stupid crafting shop locations back. People like you cried for them.
You got them and a year later you are still crying while those locations lay vacant.
Not all of them, we don't. Unless they added the rest back in the last month or so without me noticing, anyway. We don't have the crafting rooms inside hideouts either, even though they're even there on the maps but just blocked off for unfathomable reasons.
Because we don't have crafting. Why would we need crafting rooms....
And the only man capable of finishing those 'hidden' Base rooms went where no man has gone before.
