Supercollide once wrote a nice guide about building character according to a concept. You can find it
HERE. I used it, the other best guides on the forum, and the Wiki, to come with builds I consider good enough to have fun with. Please note that these builds are not meant to do PvP, and are efficient for Elite PvE and missions. Of course, you're free to comment and leave suggestions or questions for next builds I could try.
Let's start with Fire. The concept is a classical fire-themed shonen hero, a mix between Human Torch from the FF and Natsu Dragneel from the manga Fairy Tail.
PowerHouse (Link to this build)Name: Wildbeast, Vanguard of FireArchetype: FreeformSuper Stats:Level 6: Ego (Primary)Level 10: Endurance (Secondary)Level 15: Recovery (Secondary)Talents:Level 1: The InfernoLevel 6: ImpresarioLevel 9: AccurateLevel 12: Amazing StaminaLevel 15: ShooterLevel 18: DaredevilLevel 21: WordlyPowers:Level 1: Throw Fire (Fuel My Fire)Level 1: Fireball (Rank 2, Unstable Accelerant)Level 6: Fiery Form (Rank 2, Rank 3)Level 8: Fire ShieldLevel 11: Thermal ReverberationLevel 14: ConcentrationLevel 17: Conflagration (Rank 2, Rank 3)Level 20: Fire Snake (Rank 2, Rank 3)Level 23: Flashfire (Rank 2, Sweltering Heat)Level 26: Resurgence (Rank 2, Rank 3)Level 29: Immolation (Rank 2, Rank 3, Blazing Body)Level 32: Evasive Maneuvers (Sleight of Mind)Level 35: Force EruptionLevel 38: Heat Wave (Engulfing Flames)Travel Powers:Level 6: Fire Flight (Rank 2, Rank 3)Level 35: TeleportationSpecializations:Ego: Force of Will (2/2)Ego: Insight (3/3)Ego: Aggression (2/2)Ego: Follow Through (3/3)Avenger: Ruthless (2/2)Avenger: Round 'em Up (3/3)Avenger: Relentless Assault (3/3)Avenger: Offensive Expertise (2/2)Vindicator: Aggressive Stance (2/2)Vindicator: Merciless (3/3)Vindicator: Modified Gear (2/2)Vindicator: Mass Destruction (3/3)Mastery: Ego Mastery (1/1)
Considering that Fire has enough debuffs to deal tons of damage, I chose Ego over Dexterity as crits aren't needed. The idea is to use Fire Snake, Flashfire and Fireball to lessen enemies' resistance and finish them quickly with Conflagration. Heat Wave is another debuff made to be used against stronger enemies.
Next is Force build. This is for classical energy superheroes, using pure force to crush their enemies and protect themselves.

Another DPS build, without heal, hence the shield options. Using Sonic Device + Force Cascade is a good alpha strike and can deal with most of the creeps.
Third build, Darkness. I made it to be a counterpart to the Force build, able to run as Hybrid, handle the damage with healing effects and still deal easily with the creeps.

Some will notice that I ranked Ebon Ruin to lv3 instead of picking the Paranormal Paranoia advantage, to use it as a debuff. This is really up to you to use it, and I found that I didn't reallt need it for PvE. Now if you use to go into a lot of team missions, take the advantage as it can really help your mates. Opening is Summon Shadows and Ego Sprites (both giving some healing), Howl for the 100% chance of Fear, then Shadow Embrace as a finisher. Actually, I use Teleportation instead of Shadow Skull which I don't have yet, but you get the idea.
Last for now, the Electricity. This is the one I used the most and it deals really good damage without breaking a sweat.

Some people would argue about redundant powers or unecessary advantages (on the shield for example), but so far I've never been disappointed with it. This is glass-cannon but the enemies rarely survive long enough to reach you. Only the biggest threats are dangerous, but you don't fight them alone, do you ?
Thanks for reading. Next builds I'll talk about will be TK Blades, Bestial, Celestial and Military Munitions.

The concept here is a Water-themed melee fighter. As a Water powerset is yet to be done by Cryptic, I chose TK Blades for the look, and it fits the idea of a "swordfish". Coloring the powers in tones of blue make it a perfectly acceptable Water concept, and it as a feeling of Green Lantern. But in blue.
Celestial is mainly thought as a support/healer powerset ; but with appropriate build, it can be a nice DPS one too. This build is freely inspired by L1ghtstar's build, so he can have some credits for the inspiration. Concept is self-explained, angel descends from heaven to punish the bad guy, and he has no flaming skull.

Rather than a tanky DPS, I chose a support DPS. It is run as Support build for energy management and still deal nice damage in Elite PvE. Survivability is also satisfying.
Probably the hardest build I had to think about (on my very first toon on CO, with quite a bunch of retcon), the Wolflord. It is hard because Pet builds are not something I'm familiar with (no pun intended), and the concept is a bit different than the usual "I'm a Warlock and I summon 8 dinosaurs 1 angel 1 demon 1 horror 3 shadows and a couple of bears" stuff. The concept is limited to wolf-like pets, so I only got 4 pets (2 wolves, 1 primal summoning, and the arctic beast). The build I actually use in game is different than the one I'm gonna show here, as I use pets as a secondary damage source and I'm still able to fight alone when they're gone, with Dex as the 4th stat. This build is thought to made pets a bit more efficient with Aura of Ebon Destruction, and Bleed/Fear exploitation.

It looks good as a whole, but I didn't try it as my current build is good enough for me. Feel free to put it at test and see if it's good.
Last for today is my tribute to the FPS genre and the Big Soldier in Armor archetype. Think Gears of War, Warhammer 40k, Starcraft, Unreal Tournament, and you have the concept. Big guy in a suit of armor, take that away, he still got a ****in' badass weaponry.

So it's another DPS build, and I take it that it's not really tough for someone who pretends to be Marcus Fenix #1 fanboy. The damage are fine though. The only thing "strange" may be Kinetic Manipulation rather than Targeting Computer. The build is made to deal a lot of crits, but I feel that Kinetic is better for all-out Physical damage. Boosting the Crit is better on powers that are made to deal Crits (like Sniper Rifle), so I don't need it.
Once again, be sure to review and try if you're interested. I'll try to show non-DPS builds next time, I do have an Earth tank already. I also have most of the other powersets ready to be shown, so just ask if you want to see something specific.
Thanks In Advance
You're welcome to use my build for Photon Fury and tweak it however you like.

Remember my take on FPS with military weapons ? Now the inspiration comes from Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Tekken, Dragon Ball, Streets of Rage, Double Dragon, Iron Fist, and the legendary Bruce Lee. This is my take on the Chi sub-division of the Unarmed power set.

I chose to go for an Hybrid/Defensive build rather than a Brawler/Offensive one, because I felt like I suggested too many off. builds already. To make it short, this build is meant to rush in frontline to take the agro and dodge everything. So while the mobs try to get you and you dodge every strike like Batman in Arkham series, you use both the physical and chi damage to humiliate them and beat them down. It may be even better if you are Gold, by changing the colors on the attacks to make them visually stunning (think of the new Udyr skin in League of Legends, each of his "attack mode" makes him look slightly different).
The concept today was originally a Dual Blades/Force, Sith-inspired DPS. With me not being a hardcore Star Wars fan, I decided to do a bit of search to see how a Sith-themed hero can be built. In the end, we have a lot of possibilities :
- Power Armor, with the Particle Sword subtype
- Telekinesis
- Electricity
- Single Blade
- Dual Blade
- Force (may it be with you)
Dual Blades is more spectacular, with the lack of a staff power set. In the Star Wars lore, the art of dual lightsaber fighting is called Jar'kai and was made famous by characters like Asajj Ventress. Jar'kai users rely more on their ability with the lightsabers, and having both hands busy, they often don't use their other abilities. So I changed my Dual/Force mix to a nearly pure Dual Blades build, with a bit of Sith flavor and a lot of critical strike.

It would be interesting, IMO, to try an Unleashed-like hero, by changing Dual Blades to Single Blade, which would be more realistic. Force fits better for Jedi, and Telekinesis/Electricity for Sith, but that's only my view on the Star Wars ripoff possibilities.
