Gift Boxes

As you know, one of the best things in Champions Online is having a friend or someone close to play with. Sometimes, due to monetary constraints, they can't afford to spend money on Zen or subscriptions, and they'll end up missing out on good content. This can be solved with gift boxes!

Gift boxes cost the same as the vehicle/costume/service they contain.

HOWEVER

Instead of unlocking the vehicle/costume/service, they are given a tradable gift box that will open and give the items upon right clicking.

These can be given to friends/family, your alts via shared bank account, OR traded to other players for other gift boxes and resources.

Doing this can bring in some good money, and will help stimulate more interest in players, especially if you decide to make freeform slot gift boxes!

That's a good idea. They could also offer some way of simply gifting Zen to a friend. My only request would be that this type of system have an extra layer of security implemented, so if heaven forbid your account got hacked, someone couldn't just gift away all your Zen - perhaps have it send an email to the registered address, asking you to confirm that you wanted the purchase.

If Zen Store Costumes, Services, Hideouts and Powers were BoE, I would be completely out of zen by now. I would even have to spend money on the game again.

Lets see how well those things do in sales compared to keys if its changed to this.

Keys, obviously, don't really work well since lockboxes contain randomized content. Gift boxes are much better since the content inside is guaranteed , and is also tradable.

This would also make inviting friends to play CO much better, and it would also boost trading opportunities since a freeform slot is an Altaholic's best friend.

The biggest issue with the freeform grab bag. It was BoP so I wasn't able to give to friends.

    I can imagine it already...

Ironically, STO already does this with most of the lockbox content, and with the Lobi vendor (Drifter's Salvage). So if you pick up one of the items, costume unlocks, whatever, you can trade that, or list it up on the exchange.

I don't think making Zen or Questionite tradeable is a good idea, or, for that matter, even unbinding the Q boxes, for a number of reasons.

The Q boxes would effectively render the refinement cap meaningless, because you could simply move the Q to another character, refine it there, and transfer it back.

Boxing up Refined Questionite and or boxing up Zen leads to a couple problems...

The goldfarmer problem for CO isn't bad, right now. But, if they could actually move Zen and Q around between specific players, can you imagine how fast they'd swarm the game?

Conversely, it would make compromising CO accounts much much more attractive to goldfarmers. Because, now, it's not just a random account that might have one or two bucks worth of globals on it; now it's an account that has 1500 zen and a couple hundred thousand questionite on it, that can be transferred around and sold for pure profit.

I still think we should be able to deposit questionite and zen into our escrow accounts, but, anything beyond that is probably a bad idea.

On an unrelated note, I'm still kinda shocked the freeform slots were BoP, that one just doesn't make sense to me.

EDIT: I wasn't thinking, if you want to give people Zen right now, you actually can. PW sells prepaid zen cards at most major retailers, at least in the US, and you can give those to people. I think the cards are all 1k zen, but, still, that option does exist. It's not as personalized as, say, when I gave my Girlfriend a full Aegis set in STO for Christmas, but, it is an option to say, "here's some stuff for the game you enjoy".
