Effective devices

pizzataropizzataro Posts: 30 Arc User
So I've read in one of the topics that there are some powerful devices.

Right now, I tried one of the devices, Black Talon MK II.
While it's a really fun device, as it has some interesting skills, it is not effective in the zones of my current level.
As I noticed, the device is not affected by your gear, but only by your level. So you probably can't make it stronger, right?

Now, what good is it to have a device you can't really enjoy when you're leveling, but instead are forced to go to a low level zone?

Anyway, I'd really appreciate it if you guys could list some effective devices here, if there are any.

Thanks in advance.

EDIT:
I'm looking for the "Become" devices.

You just need to pick the right device....
Like 'Spawn Friggin Raptors' device or rest of the "broken" Legacy Box ones...

So Becomes aren't meant to be more powerful than player characters, Freeform ones that is. More likely created to bring some differencial to Archetypes.

^That. Some of them are great for ATs to basically switch role, e.g. for added survivability when staying in glass cannon mode really wouldn't do.

I'm more interested in the "Become devices".
Well, I was about to get the freeform slot, but then I read that you have to start all over again, so you can't transfer your current toon into the freeform slot. Wish I had the time for that, but this is really not the option for me. And the freeform slot wasn't avaible back in the days when I just started.

That's why I decided to get myself a bunch of "become" devices, but after trying "Black Talon", I kind of lost interest in getting more, untill I read in one of threads something about strong devives. Don't remember it's name. Something with "Death" (Deathlord?).

My toon can handles around 20-30 mobs of the current level, without any efford, but the device has problems against 3-4 monsters.
I'm not looking for a "become" device as powerful as my toon, but atleast strong enough to handle a small group that stick together.

No time for it? Do you have a time-constrained contract? Are you in a race to hit max level and max gear?

Become Devices used to be pretty good. Become Werewolf was a personal favorite of mine to use on my squishies, Black Talon is mildly useful, Chaos Demons can do a good chunk of damage... the problem is, they weren't updated for On Alert.

Now they're worthless toys that will get you killed more often than not because spec trees exist. The Deathlord is only good because it has a res power on it, which is very useful for alerts and missions where you get locked out if you Recover.

The wiki is still catching up, but these links may be helpful:

I've tried 3 post on-alert; Frankenstein, Snowman and Lemurian Power Armor. Lemurian PA seems to be the strongest, pretty good damage and a leeetle survivability. Snowman dies very easily but may be able to out-damage the Lemurian PA if set up properly. Frankenstein...has not impressed me. Though I can still solo with it, if I pretend I'm soloing in an old-school MMO and play much more carefully. I agree with previous posters in that all 3 are weaker than a well-built character. These are mostly for fun, or for character theme (like if your character is a shapeshifter).

From a pure game mechanics perspective, the only "use" I can think of is to cover gaps in your build. E.g. you can take "Become Mummy" if you need a tunneling for stealth, "Become Doomlord" or "Become Celestial" if you need a raise other. I actually have "Become Lemurian Power Armor" on a melee character for those annoying alert bosses with point blank AoEs (though, to be honest, it is thematic also, as that character is supposed to be Lemurian).

    EDIT: Fixed several spelling errors

I have found the 'Become Werewolf' to be capable of solo-ing Teleiosaurus. So thats my advice ;3 Make sure you dont get the white one....that thing is crap.

My non-flying toons have a become to grant flight when needed.

I like Become Werewolf for low level ATs or any AT that lacks self healing, particularly ranged or support types.

Flying Becomes are handy in many places -- I had a plant-themed hero and really wanted the title 'Treed'. Which is an exploration title from going on top of a huge tree in Westside. Almost impossible without flight or super jump.

I had a consumable Become Ghost... did the trick!

I also have that Lemurian Power Armor with a Lemurian-themed Devestator. Nice rounding out of ability.

Basically, these devices give ATs some of the interesting complexity of 'build' from shifting focus that ATs otherwise lack.

Ah, guess I should have read the replies here, before getting Doomlord.
But I have to say, Doomlord is doing a better job then the Black Talon! Higher damage and it also has healing abilities.
It was actually a device suggested ingame.

And yes, it's indeed nice to have them for some extra travelpowers. I already had Teleportation, Ooze and Rocket Jump [Black Talon].
And now Flight, with the Doomlord.
I have to say Flight is so much easier to use in instances with narrow hallways.

So the Lemurian PA and Werewolf, right?
I see that the Lemurian PA only has 6 skills, like the Doomlord.

The Werewolf was also suggested ingame, I think I'll try that one first and then get the Lemurian PA.
As I don't have a meele set of skills, it might be interesting to try it out.
Those two also got the Travel power I don't have yet. High speed "running" [Lemurian PA] and Acrobatics [Werewolf].

Thank you for the suggestion guys.
