Need a few Dual suggestions?

Hi,

I've been playing Champions Online for awhile now. I enjoy the game and like my lasting creations thus far. They're pretty well equiped for solo missions in my opinion. All of them are Freeform characters and are about even in long range and close/malee offense powers as well as defensive base powers. I don't usually duel with other players/Champions, but when I do I always get beaten. I'm not altering the build of my existing toons but I would like to create one that specializes in fighting/dueling with other players/champions aside from doing my regular gameplay of solo missions. So I would welcome a few suggestions on what I can do to improve my effectiveness against other players? Not necessarily looking for build examples but if you want to post them, that's fine too. My usual selection of powers goes something like this in brief. Choosing a long range powerset, lets say fire. I'de prefer to have some malee powers added in. Usually I pick Defensive Combo, Clobber, Haymaker, Super Leap, etc. Usually I go with invulvnerability and a block power, some shield or something. This is just a brief outline of how I choose my powers. There's a bit more to it. Based on this though, what suggestions do you have to help me out when I duel with other players?

This post wasn't what I thought it was about. :)

    You mean DUEL, not DUAL.

I never PvP so I cannot offer any advice. There should be a separate PvP forum (called Hero Games, I think) where they might have some guides.

Make sure you have the proper devices equipped. Eruption for example. Demonic flesh graft helps alot, too.

Just from reading what you wrote it kind of sounds like you're cherry-picking powers you think are cool. You definitely DON'T want to do that for PvP. Powers that have no synergy and energy issues with builds are ok if you're only interested in RP and casual PvE. But for Elite PvE and PvP, you want to study how powers, advantages, and specializations can interlink and work together (synergy). Over-generalize (trying to be a jack of all trades) in PvP, prepare to get your **** handed to you in combat, regularly.

It would be a loooooong discussion to describe synergies in powers in this game, so I'll just recommend you start with a few things:
    1. Always assume there's more to learn, and strive to improve
    2. Start by learning about some of the power synergies and doing experimental tests of you own. Most PvP people who don't just copy & paste FotM (flavor of the month) builds have spend a loooong time studying the mechanics of the game. Often times what looks good in theory, doesn't pan out for practicality. Or what works for PvE doesn't work for PvP. Or even knowing that certain power are bugged, weak, or the description Cryptic wrote is flat out incomplete or incorrect.
    3. With stats, you want to put emphasis on your superstats, but diversify on talents
    4. With powers, you want to start by selecting JUST one or two key/focal power and then building everything else specialized around that
    5. In this game healing is important, especially PvP, so you want to figure out your heal after you figure out your slotted passive
    6. Crippling Challenge will cancel out blocking completely, typically a standard advantage for PvP
    7. Nailed to the Ground (aka. NttG as we call it) is totally essential for people who run away from you constantly, as are things like roots and stuns (take a look at Sonic Device)
    8. Lunges are essential for melee characters, especially considering MOST builds you fight in PvP are ranged

Make sure you have the proper devices equipped. Eruption for example. Demonic flesh graft helps alot, too.

Use of devices in duels is considered rude.
(In other words, you're having to use a crutch because your build is sub-par)

However, in BASH queues, or SG battles such as team duels, you use everything and anything you got to win with!

This should help me out alot. Will take into consideration and get right to work...

    Much appreciated, thank you...
