Okay, I do not have the best rig in the world, but it ain't the worst either. (I know, i think i played on one of the worst for awhile heh) But the controls/interface with Champions Online seem much worse than CoX, Wow, etc.
My specific major problem is in combat when I am trying to target/kill something and the computer just will not acknowledge me spamming a control. You can put it down to lag, my mediocre comp, or just me being a newb at CO. All are valid points. However, ever since i started playing CO whenever I try to pick up/interact with something outside combat. doors, glowies, and especially ( ! ) treasure the comp takes like 3 times me spamming the button to acknowledge yes I really want to pick up the treasure, interact with the object.
So something is going on with Champions Online and my mouse that never occured in CoX, does not occur in WoW, and does not occur in the millions of other websites I use that mouse on.
My only 40 is a character that uses a sustain attack in CO, for this very reason. Trying to switch targets or depend on the comp to actually respond when I want the character to hit something is literally hit or miss.
I like the character generation screen, I am starting to even like the character power development, but the interface controls for Champions Online, at least with my computer, are about as bad as I can handle.
If anyone knows a trick to get CO interact with a comp better, please share.
your major issue sounds like lag to me.

if your ping is high its going to cause issues with hitting buttons, grabbing objects.
I don't think there are any other times where interaction is an issue.
Well I have to think about that. I have a feeling spamming targeting is essential because its doing some kind of crap like "target closests" and you are moving all the time , and they are moving, and so you get stuck on the same jerkface instead of all the other ones you want to hit.
I freakin' love hitting every target, pulling all the aggro, and being on the edge of death. Dyin' not so much, that's why that targeting thing becomes an issue, if I only hit one guy, and everyone is at full health and still mad at me? damn.
It happens.
Maybe it's just the horrible tab-targeting that the OP has fallen victim to.
Otherwise, I don't personally experience any sort of huge issue with delays between hitting a key and a power going off or anything, and my computer is far from top-of-the-line.

I do not believe it is horrid lag, unless it is server side. I have a cable connection and am able to download complete movies in a few minutes, CoX never caused this problem, WoW does not have this problem, and all the other websites that comp uses everyday does not experience this issue.
I do not tab target much, I try to get the mouse on my chosen opponent, and the comp really does not want to acknowledge my choice.
Also, the fact that I can stand, not in combat, over an exclamation point ( ! ) and have it fail to recognize my attempts to claim the prize 2-3 times, everytime.
My take on it is either the game itself is written so that it does not interact with other computers well, or it does not interact with my computer well. Since I play the game on 3 different machines, in 2 locations, and have the same problems at each comp, that leaves the game itself. My only guess is maybe since its written for X box compatibility it hates me using mouse and keyboard GUI controls.
Handing in missions has a weird thing right now where if you just rapidly tap Z it takes like six presses in order to actually hand in the mission, unlike before where you would say hi and have it handed in.
It likes to show you the reward, you hit Z, it goes to the 'quests' selection for the NPC, then you hit Z again and it finally says 'Oh, you're accepting that one'.
Although, aside from that, it sounds like something isn't quite clicking right. Multiple systems, so I doubt it's hardware...Hrmm. Haven't a clue currently.

I do not experience the issue you are reporting, and I play CO on 3 PCs; 2 desktops and a laptop, of varying makes and specs. Try doing this - go into your options, and set it to ONLY show other player names if you target or mouse-over them. For some reason, text and other GUI elements cause a lot of lag, so it could be that these elements are contributing to your poor experience, (I always shut the "always show" stuff off).

That has some positive effect Bioshrike. It solved 95-98% of my problems with standing over treasure/interact and having to hit the button multiple times. (Can you please get me 100%???)
I am still having problems targeting with my melee guy, but that is at least 5% operator error, possibly 6%. I am playing with camera angles, tabbing strategies, and views in an attempt to make the combat flow how I want.
Here's a "quick-fix" - it's by no means perfect, but it may help you:
/bind f "targetenemynear"
Now, whenever you press the 'f' key, you'll target the nearest enemy. This can help if for some reason you just can't get a lock on an enemy you're fighting. You can substitute any other key instead of 'f', if you like...
Also, if you have shadows on, try lowering it a notch, and try turning off cinematic focus - it sometimes helps a little as well.

TBH, I only ever used that command as part of a larger bind, so I was not aware that you didn't need quotes to use it. I do know that you don't need the underscores, though...

I use the ] key for targeting, the [ for previous target, and the \ key for next target. After your post I finally set that up in CO as well.
After the improvement I noticed from your tip I reset all video to CO default settings, then changed the mouse target thing and permanented that. I will run it this way for 10-20 levels ans see how it goes.

Deliciously nutritious!
