I'd also like to add that I am not unfamiliar with "Build Wars" as you put it.
During my time playing Guild Wars 2, I had only ever met one warrior which tied with me, 2 (me) for 2 (him). Any other warrior I ever fought, would lose to me. 90% in a matter of seconds. Other classes varied, but needless to say I was the best warrior I had ever encountered, and I had played quite a lot.
During the first few months of Champions Online, I would create builds that no one ever thought of, that completely toasted others in PvP. While others were abusing swallowtail cut, ego blades, and teleport- I was able to use a simple munitions/dark build, ice/heal build, and a few other builds that simply mopped the floor with even OP FotM builds.
With that said, I am not trying to brag. I am trying to create a "been there, done that" attitude, emphasizing that others who do the same as what I used to do will not be having anywhere near as much fun, will often find themselves bored quicker, frustrated easier, and enjoy themselves significantly less. Note that I am NOT saying they will get bored, get frustrated, or not enjoy themselves. I am stating that no matter your perspective of fun, different emotional volatility, personality- you will find these things to be true. (ex. Someone who never gets frustrated, will get frustrated easier, but may still never get frustrated. Someone who gets frustrated easily, will get frustrated even easier.)
I have "been there, done that" with all things PvP and tournaments. I actually now realize I was missing out of a lot of fun and satisfaction in simple things like custom toons and PvE gameplay.
Try to re-read the portion where I discussed players becoming frankenstein cocktails, missing out on the fun they'd have if they played their original desired build.
Also focus on the possibility of a game that is perfectly balanced, or one where NO ONE uses exploitative overpowered abilities/builds. In a game with no overpowered builds or at least none being USED, then everyone is far more balanced. When the game is more balanced, people are FREE to do the build they WANT to have, the role they desire to be in a group.
Casual PvP among newbies is actually a TON more fun than Competitive PvP among pro-gamers. The former play as what they want, and have a blast because everyone sucks equally. The latter play as what they HAVE to be, and have fun because they win a lot.
Note that I said newbies "have a blast" while the latter "have fun". When you play to win, you will only "have fun" at best. When you play to have fun, you will "have a blast". I know what I am talking about, seeing as how my career is in the field of psychology, I have been competitively playing for over 15 years, and I have both personal experience with this AND a large amount of knowledge of others' experiences and thoughts.
Don't take my word for it though: try it out. Play to have fun, instead of play to win. Don't even TRY to win. Don't min/max, stop your competitive edge from activating when you think "Well, that sucks. I will use that instead."
Instead of, "Does Smoke Bomb as my 3rd power at level 6 suck? Will I win or lose?" get in touch with the fun side of yourself and you will realize "Smoke bomb isn't as fun as another ability I could get instead. But I want it, so I'll get it later." and your competitive edge might creep up on your fun to help it out, "Well, it kindof sucks. You didnt have fun with it now. It seems to suck. Let's cooperate and scrap it entirely." while you retain your fun as priority, "Okay competitive edge, I'll do that. BUT if it ever becomes fun again, I will take it."
It will revolutionize the way you think. Also for many, many players who quit after a month or so, it will give a lot more entertainment to games. The idea is that the experience is more fulfilling when you play for FUN instead of to WIN, and thus the experience satisfies you more, keeping you playing and straying off boredom/repetition.
I can't believe f0rz is serious with all his lies that he spews forth. A troll who sympathizes with device users trying to tell me about exploiting the system while tossing his ego about. He makes false accusations about me and silences me for doing damage control for his buffoonery and then he tries to shift the blame. I hope you people can see why I don't like him. Not to mention that much of his reply wasn't too relevant to what I said.
No one I tag in pvp can defeat me on his own. That's why I steal their kills from them. :P Call it bragging or whatever you will, but you have no proof that this isn't true or that I copied this or that off of people I don't even like or pay any attention to. I even built noobware's perma-Ascension crap in like 30 seconds before noobs QQ'd about it, since I already knew how it worked, but I never bothered with it anyway since it's pointless. It's not hard to create things without talking to ignorant people whom you regard as being so good.
I stopped trying to debate with people like ashens because of semantics and other pointless fallacy. angel shouldn't even have to waste time explaining that he's not bragging, or why semantics disrupt discussions.
Now it'll be 72 hours since I could chat freely just because people believe such fallacy. Have fun trying to kill one player at a time. I'll be too busy "tagging" them to care.

I actually never tried Guild Wars 2 for that very reason.
I was fascinated with the Necromancer and even tried to make one in CO but was never able to get it right.
Once I read that Necromancers do not fare well in PvP my interest dropped quickly which I now regret because at the time I only cared for PvP and having the best character instead of one that I just enjoyed playing.
These days I never develop a theme for a character until I finish him. Then I create a new appearance and story to fit the power set so I am usually happy with the result.
And when I get bored of that I simply make joke characters and do silly shenanigans like:
Boxing champion that duels everyone he sees then makes an excuse for getting beaten.
I just got silenced about an hour ago for eating all of cluckel's fried chicken. I'm going to keep "silencing" his copybuilds until people leave me alone.
I'm not going to give proof to anything because I bring nothing on the table nor care about that pathetic fantasy about fame you seem to hold so dearly, but what could I tell you... well, since you're so concerned about it, prove yourself, less text, more action, bring a video for that matter, everyone saying that you're a joke, prove them wrong, go for it.
Once I read that Necromancers do not fare well in PvP my interest dropped quickly which I now regret because at the time I only cared for PvP and having the best character instead of one that I just enjoyed playing.
It really depends of the field, sPvP has only a few rooms for various Necro builds that are other than Bunker based, but they fairly tend to shine in large battles during WvWvW. Besides, most of their traits are bugged to oblivion and is part of the reason of their underperformance. I'm on the same boat with my die hard Engineer roaming in a world that is dominated by D/D Elementalists and Thieves which means that I often don't get the means to catch them if they ever flee.
It doesn't matter whether you care about my image or not, you're still an ignorant elitist with low-minded friends in high places. Guess who that affects first. I'll give you a hint: it isn't me.
Oh yes, I do remember you. Took a long time making the link between the forum account and the ingame account.
If PvP was the way you keep brainwashing people with, there would certainly be much more players remaining in there, and since it's not the case, you're just trying to act like you're naturally godlike with everything you play. We all know what you do is borderline laughable but it can change, bring something solid other than words (I kill this and that and this yada yada) and people, including me, may take you seriously, after all, it shouldn't take long, right?
It also depends of what you're meaning by 'Variations', and 'Winning'.
Variation is like Ketas' olde pestilence DE character, DarkonX's sturdy WotW MA character, Brou's pure Might. Variation for you seems to be 'AoPM Enrage with all the usual boring stuff all the clowns use' and replacing your main attack with something forgotten like Tiger's Bite. Most of us don't call that variation, we call that an excuse.
Winning for you seems to be about exploiting the system, making ringouts; (Hell if that's true my Rhino gets to be ULTIMATE PvP'er of all the time!!1) scoring ten points in a BASH match by abusing the tagging mechanics and hoping that the rest of people get to defeat eachother.
Tell me frankly, is that true? Because if it is, it's going to explain alot and I may even accept all of the above from this point of view. I'm not even asking this out of enmity.
You completely took the words out of my mouth. Everything you said here is 100% true and exactly how that scrub "wins" in bash. Not to mention farming the ATs because those are the only people she can defeat 1vs1 (well, them and RP pvpers).
No one I tag in pvp can defeat me on his own. That's why I steal their kills from them. :P
Now it'll be 72 hours since I could chat freely just because people believe such fallacy. Have fun trying to kill one player at a time. I'll be too busy "tagging" them to care.
And yet another lie. I have both personally stomped you 1vs1 and seen MANY people wreck you 1vs1. The funniest is when you're about to lose you start teleporting around trying to survive to get HP back PRAYING your opponent doesn't have perception gear, which, even if they don't, you still fail and drop on your face and then let out a burst of rage comments before you ignore them and recover. LOL.
The last 72 hours have really been great in ren centre. Enjoy the rest of your time being silenced, I know we all are
lol... Okay, next time I'll be recording you since you didn't even hit anything today.
LOL I wasnt trying to kill anything. I was just trying to troll you so you would stop farming the RP PVPers from genesis with your butt-buddy. Mission accomplished since I made you stalemate
I think it's funny how you didn't come into the next bash after you saw me in that one though, your butt-buddy could of used your help, he got farmed pretty hard. Oh well, all in a days work I suppose.
Looking forward to seeing you again in bash. Don't forget to record

For what its worth (and this is not meant in any way to be a negative comment or argument) I was referring to GW1 where, "Build Wars," was a fairly common reference to the continuous evolution of team builds in PvP.

Try to re-read the portion where I discussed players becoming frankenstein cocktails, missing out on the fun they'd have if they played their original desired build.
I read and understood your point there. I commented as I did because not everyone approaches character building, or has fun, in the same way. Someone whose desire is to put together the highest performing build they can is playing, "their original desired build." They would only be missing out on the fun if they were not playing one of those frankenstein cocktails (as you put it). For some part of the fun is building those mish-mash monstrosity builds. I do not play them but do enjoy designing them.
If part of what one enjoys in a freeform building game is designing for maximum possible performance then one is not, "free," to do the build they want if the game does not reward players who put in that extra effort. For some part of the PvP is the build designing phase.

You are of course entitled to your opinion. I have never been what would be considered a pro-gamer, but I detest newbie PvP.
Note that I said newbies "have a blast" while the latter "have fun". When you play to win, you will only "have fun" at best. When you play to have fun, you will "have a blast". I have been playing games, sports, etc competitively for thirty five years and have experiences, personal and extensive knowledge of others' experiences, that do not match your claims. Perhaps matters are not as absolute as you seem to believe.
Don't take my word for it though: try it out. Play to have fun, instead of play to win. Don't even TRY to win. Don't min/max, stop your competitive edge from activating when you think "Well, that sucks. I will use that instead."
I only play concept builds. I do not min/max. I enjoy losing a good match more than I enjoy winning a bad one.
Instead of, "Does Smoke Bomb as my 3rd power at level 6 suck? Will I win or lose?" get in touch with the fun side of yourself and you will realize "Smoke bomb isn't as fun as another ability I could get instead. Fun does NOT get old in repetition. Winning DOES.
I play for fun. I also try to win. Something that is fun can (often does) get old with repetition. Winning does not get old in repetition though playing a certain build/manner/game which brings those wins may.
Your last two sentences seem somewhat odd to me. If I am having fun, and I win in the process, then continuing to play should simultaneously get old and not get old according to your statement. Then again I do not think that winning and having fun are mutually exclusive.
As to your previous post regarding my comments on the nature of winning:
A match/fight/game/whatever can be won before it is concluded. It can even be won before it begins. The history of competitive chess, for example, is full of examples of matches where a player has won a game several moves before his opponent recognizes the fact and resigns. Military history is similarly filled with examples of conflicts won before their conclusion. I am not attempting to redefine a word, merely pointing out the fact that a win does not necessarily occur at the end of a conflict.

After much research and countless hours of reading forum threads I have come to the conclusion that Forz and lucy are going to have a baby. Its obvious the sparks are there they can't just leave one another alone. I'm so jealous of there love and wish them and their little one the best!!!

LOL....well..I've just about run out of popcorn anyway..
Besides the simple way to settle this huge rage/arguement fest is to have one final EB duel between everyone...whoever is left standing is the winner, simple..

OK. I'm done with all this crud about not enough attention being payed attention to PvP and i'm here to give you the answer.
do you know WHY pvp is ignored by the devs..... YOU THE PLAYERS. hero games is flooded by players who care about only the win, .....
hmm? No, the problem is that Cryptic does not care at all about PvP in any of their games. It shows in their disregard for any and all PvP concerns with anything new they release. This is readily apparent in both CO and STO.
Its all wrapped up in that mindset they have that they NEED to tie new stuff to power creep. I can only assume their internal sale metrics show they get more sales out of power creep items than purely cosmetic ones, and since its all about minimal effort for maximun return...well, you see the results.
Alright Yuko ("OH EM GEE. HE KNOWS MY REAL NAME. WTF? :O), lets get a few things straight since you're already a proven liar (just ask malware lol).
1) I never "picking people who were weaker than me" as a blade, I fought everyone from Archetypes to Freeforms. I usually was fighting FFs like blinky and soulstrike on my blade (and yes I can prove that, not that I need to). I lost MANY times, and at first yeah I did complain, but that was because I didn't know better since I was only a week or 2 into the game and didn't know the imbalance of powers. I however have beaten MANY FFs on my blade. It's actually funny you mention this because my blade AT is the only toon of mine you have ever beaten, and you beat it with your FFs. Congrats on the win though, I bet you feel pretty proud of killing an under 5k HP blade. Like i said in my previous post, all you can kill is ATs.
2) Ever since the day I went freeform, you have NEVER defeated ANY OF MY FFs. I mean how could you, I've been on your ignore list since August of 2012. If you don't remember, let me paint a vivid picture for you. We dueled 3 times that day. First duel I won, said "gf" and you proceeded to make your usual rage comment about my build. You then came back and dueled me a second time, where I 1-shotted you through teleport. You raged harder. Finally, you dueled me a third time in the attempt to troll me with evasive and teleport, but I once again 1-shotted you through them and you raged and ignored me. You go around raging and talking smack about me because you cant handle the losses you suffer because of me in bash. I need no proof of this as everyone who knows me or has PvPed with me knows how hard you rage in bash when I kill you. Oh, and there's more (shocking!), I hope you still remember the time a few weeks ago when a friend of mine joined CO, you said to him "I guess I have to show you what a newb shag really is", and unignored me for a duel. Do you remember? If not, let me refresh your memory. You kited the whole duel against my MELEE (about 5-10min), while I stood still and only attacked you to maintain my 8 stacks. I remained still in the middle the whole fight, knowing your builds never do any real damage. You lunged in to attack, I 1-shotted you to oblivion and your exact words were "finally, took you long enough". Playing it off as if you weren't RAGING like a wild monkey inside.
That was to set the record straight since you are already a proven liar who lies about beating people shes never dueled or has lost to. (read other threads/posts to confirm). Now in terms of the rest of your pointless post, all I will say is this:
I am most likely older than you are, considering you are either still in high school or early college and attend the same school Rylo does. Considering I am done college and am a working professional, the "teenybopper" comment is out the window.
I won't say anything in regards to my "talent" and just let my PvPing speak for itself. I will reiterate however that you have NEVER ONCE beat any of my FF characters in 1vs1 and all you have done is tagged kills in bash when a lot better PVPers have killed me.
Now for my final point. It's probably your attitude, behavior, and comments like the one you made above that have made you a laughing stock in Champions Online. You are nothing but a joke to us all. No one takes you seriously, and we all farm you in PVP. I mean, you have 2 gold accounts you pay for just to be able to talk to yourself because no one else does (except your best friend rylo). You only care about your own opinions (right or wrong) and anyone who disagrees with what you have to say, you ignore them or proceed to troll them. You say you don't care about winning but you rage so hard when you lose its quite hilarious. Saying comments like "LOL you're all nerds" or "takes 5 of you dorks to kill me, just proves I'm the best". You call this behavior not caring? LOL, get real kid.
I honestly don't even know why you still insist on participating in the PVP community when it's quite evident NO ONE likes you (okay, maybe a FEW). You should stop paying for your PVP account @katasyntax and just stick to playing your PVE toons on @liquiddata. You certainly have a completely different attitude on that one.
the end
(apologies to all except lucy for the post being on the long-winded side, but I felt I needed to get all points across)
P.S. I love how you changed your post after I posted this. good thing i got your original post quoted .
oh yeah.....b00m______RAWR!
DAM!!!! I go away for a week of vacation and this is what i come back to?
DAM!!! Son!! So Harsh. Can't we all just get a...Well i guess not, huh?
The majority of this thread is total childish nonsense. No wonder hardly anyone PvPs anymore......they're scared away by your false bravado and huge egos.
You only have each other to fight with, so boredom makes you bring the battle to the forums.

I really, really hate to agree with you...but you are right.
I used to love PVP and hero games a few years back. So much fun. A lot of different builds, nicer folks.
Now a days a whole lot of copy cat builds with devices. Mean azz ego driven braggarts.
Name calling. (Wait? Did i just name call?) Even Sg's ganking each other.
So yes. No wonder hardly anyone pvp's anymore. Sad. Based on the forums, doesn't seem like it's going to get better anytime soon.
You only have each other to fight with, so boredom makes you bring the battle to the forums.
You hardly fight with mobs in PvP. Besides, at that point it's mostly half about ego. Many people just want to drop weapons and just be a bunch of helpful people, others aim for the same goal but only if they're considered like the ultimate PvP'er, pointing their finger to the way everyone should go.
Oh by the way. Do you know why most of people stopped PvP'ing?
That fight gave me cancer and characterizes everything wrong with CO PvP.
That is all.
Yeah... that's pretty much what being a "serious pvper" now means in this game... being a walking talking example of what's wrong with the games systems.
Champions Online: Be the hero you wish you could be in a better game.
Infact I was fighting Lucy the other day during BASH and we were both incapable of killing eachother but I still had a lot of fun even if she is the Anti Christ.

Please don't group all PvPers in one thats part of the reason we can get nothing done in this game. All of the champs player base dividing into sects and grouping one another under negative terms doesnt help anyone. It's a wonder the Devs keep putting out crap for the C-store , with all of the player base saying don't help the Rpers or dont help the pvers and hey f them pvp guys/

What Darkon could have stated more simply is that the forum PvPers are a misrepresentation of the actual person in the game. This being that Forz and Ubtri don't actually play anymore, and Lucy *mainly* keeps to him/herself outside of PvP. Much as I love your sarcasm and wit, smooch, it's unwarranted and an unmerited view of how we really are. Our entire community being represented by a grand total of 5 regular posters here is an immeasurably small sample size, as anyone with a passing understanding of statistics will tell you.
Sure. The queues are mostly dead. We understand this. The groups created by and for PvPing still exist, however. SPECTRE, Dark Crusade, the 2 members of Triam that are still around are all still here. We created and gave back to this game by maintaining veterans. So don't come here and tell us we're an elitest bunch of snobs. Buy and Large, the only ones who actually care enough to min/max their builds are PvPers, who buy and sell devices, gear, and items, which keep the economy going. We are also the main carriers in PvE, anyone with a passable build in PvP can almost always tank out gravitar.
We are misrepresented by a few bad apples. As the RP community is with Caprice, as the PvE community is with Smash PUGs. You're not granting us new, prophetic or eternal wisdom by telling us that forum flame wars are the only PvP left. All you are doing is further separating the community that is naturally at odds.
I thank whoever has the patience to read this.

I've lost all my patience with you. Keep underestimating me and pretending that you already know everything, and keep lying to yourself saying shaggy "won." It helps me win matches.
That's not how I see myself, that's just your distorted perception of it. Maybe some day you'll actually consider asking for more information instead of assuming you already know.

Cluckels the chicken
Spanky the clown
Boners (use your imagination)
I just got silenced about an hour ago for eating all of cluckel's fried chicken. I'm going to keep "silencing" his copybuilds until people leave me alone.
I've asked you a question about your concept of winning/variation, if you were the fantastic person you claim you are you would have just said no to my question instead of getting offended at anything and throwing senseless insults here and there while trying to clean that image of yours noone cares about.

ONWARDS TO THE TOPIC.
You completely took the words out of my mouth. Everything you said here is 100% true and exactly how that scrub "wins" in bash. Not to mention farming the ATs because those are the only people she can defeat 1vs1 (well, them and RP pvpers).
Enjoy the rest of your time being silenced, I know we all are
LOL I wasnt trying to kill anything.
I have been playing games, sports, etc competitively for thirty five years and have experiences, personal and extensive knowledge of others' experiences, that do not match your claims. Perhaps matters are not as absolute as you seem to believe.
I only play concept builds. I do not min/max. I enjoy losing a good match more than I enjoy winning a bad one.

Excuses, excuses. ^_~
LOL....well..I've just about run out of popcorn anyway..
Besides the simple way to settle this huge rage/arguement fest is to have one final EB duel between everyone...whoever is left standing is the winner, simple..
No Active Offensives
No Active Defensives
No Heals
No Blocking
Just a ruthless all out EB duel...

I'd say more, but I'm getting a bit too many chuckles from the replies.
To each their own.
DAM!!!! I go away for a week of vacation and this is what i come back to?
DAM!!! Son!! So Harsh. Can't we all just get a...Well i guess not, huh?

No, apparently it's a 'How big is your c**k' contest.

This is the first video I have made so sorry if it's not AWESOME, will improve next ones.
Just to prove everything that comes out of trollucy's mouth is a lie and she is really the worst piece of garbage in the game.
I switched to a ranged toon after this and she wouldn't duel me again, back on ignore for me
NOTE: This was originally a 28 minute duel. I guess there IS ONE thing she's good at: running like a biznitch and spamming EB + lunge. Oh well.
Anyway, Enjoy the show folks.

You only have each other to fight with, so boredom makes you bring the battle to the forums.

Guild Wars 2 is better.
That is all.
Yeah... that's pretty much what being a "serious pvper" now means in this game... being a walking talking example of what's wrong with the games systems.
Champions Online: Be the hero you wish you could be in a better game.
The thrill of the fight is all I care for.
Infact I was fighting Lucy the other day during BASH and we were both incapable of killing eachother but I still had a lot of fun even if she is the Anti Christ.
Important connections.

I'd rather get STO's level of lockbox suck if worthwhile updates come with it. -Buxom

I honestly have the most fun when I fight another melee.
But as I have seen with lucy "I am da winnerz ur all noobz my build iz da best LOL MEOW!!!1 trolololed!"
Some people simply dont care about the thrill of the fight. They just want to win then stroke their egos.
