On those rare times that I don't have access to my bookmarks or browser history, I always enter "CO forums" into the google machine to find this place. It used to be the first result.

Now it's third. After another MMO with the same initials.

Lose at Google? Lose at Internet.

I repeated the steps and got these forums as the top result, Conquer Online being the second and a WoW realm forum as the third.

Perhaps it's a regional thing? I hear Google results can vary depending where you are on the map.

Not just regional, but also personal, if you log in to Google.

This went from sad to interesting. I wonder if it is regional? Or based on browser history? Both? Neither? Virus?!

A computer that wants to try a different game?

To my understanding, Google includes data about your location and your demographic in weighting results.

This and a lot more too! Good attempt though TrailTurtle, those are a major two.

    FYI:

Google has the ability to access all sorts of info about you. Where you live, when & where born (or died), old pictures you thought you deleted of Facebook, pictures of you cross-linked in by facial recognition, places you've shopped online, places you've traveled, your friends, everything you've ever written on a forum or blog, etc. etc.

Granted most of this is on servers not owned by Google. But Google has access to it.

Y'all should see what the military-access version of Google does! All you need is somebody's IP address and you can find out in seconds their: Driver License, SSID, Bank Account (including the ability to freeze or transfer funds with federal judicial signed orders), and current location down to the specific address.

The old Hollywood thing where they need 30 seconds to locate your location by phone call is outdated too. AT&T 3G systems (i.e. iPhones) for example take 0.3 to 1.8 seconds to triangulate you. Major western European cities have their system hybridized with the CCTV in major metropolitan areas.

But the masters of all surveillance has got to be China. Can't touch what the Chinese and Cisco Networks has managed to collaborate on, it's mind blowing and has made companies like Cisco incredibly wealthy.

All this said though, there are ways to outsmart systems. Always a loophole. Always a way around any "secure" system with time, effort, and money. Also remember that most of the world is poor, thus unable to afford such tech.

The sad thing is I bet they have to post the odds for that.

I can safely say from years of personal experience in related fields (military communications, intel and IT) that this is absolutely NOT how it works. There is no "military-access version of Google" that someone can plug an IP address into to find a person's personal information and/or grant them access to their bank accounts. Everything that's required to do what you described here exists on separate systems connected to their own databases and networks. None of them pony up this sort of information from an IP address anyway. I don't know where you're getting this sort of information from but it's wrong.
