The Game Won't Load After Today's Patch

Every time I try to log on to either Champions or STO, I get past the launcher windows (i.e. I'm able to get to where I hit 'play' or 'engage'), and the screen turns black (with Cryptic in the middle).

Then it hangs - the 'loading' bar doesn't appear at all - it just hangs on the black screen with Cryptic for a few minutes and them pops up this message:

Fatal Error: Unable to initialize on-demand patching and connect to the Patch Server: The connection was idle for too long.

The game then crashes, and a window pops up asking if I'd like to send error information to Cryptic (which I can't do, since that window closes on its own almost immediately after popping up).

If I try a second time, it asks me if I want to verify files. It doesn't matter if I say yes or no - either way, the exact same error as I just described happens.

Like I said - this is happening for both CO and STO; and *both* games were working this morning before the patch (I logged onto each one successfully before the maintenance).

What's going on? Can anyone help me?

At your launcher login page, click on options and make sure to tick "Disable on-demand patching" box.

When you log in and all goes well, you'll be prompted to download some additional files. What on-demand patching does is download these files ingame whenever you load a new area or in this case, load the actual game. When you disable it, you download all of those needed files so no more ingame downloading is needed. I think the additional files take up perhaps 1GB of HDD space.

Try that and see if it fixes the problem for you. If prompted to verify files, just cancel it. You should still be able to run the game fine without doing so.
