Duplicating Specs

I notice that some specs exist in more that one tree. For example, it's possible to get The Best Offense (and several others) in both the Warden and Guardian trees. If you take the same ability in both, do they stack?

For example, if you took both Warden and Guardian and maxed out The Best Offense in both, would your Offense be boosted by double your Defense?

    You can do this, but it will diminish sharply while the spec points in another tree would give you better yields of circumstantial damage, control, healing, or defense bonuses untouched by the defense and offense rating DRs.
