Pretty decent article in my opinion. I don't agree with everything the author said, but any points of disagreement are purely matters of opinion. Overall the article seemed accurate and well targeted.
It was a good article, but the author did forget to mention that some of the energy builders have special advantages that work very nicely, i.e. electric bolts with the ionic infusion advantage which has a greater chance of adding negative ions to the target, which in turn can provide greater damage from your other electric attacks.
ok, as a non-min maxer, is he right about the energy builder? i do then to rank it a bit, for a baseline damage boost. is this a bad idea?
My goal is to use my energy builder as little as possible. Damage gained from ranks is a percentage of the first rank's base damage for your level. 20% of not much is still not much, so don't rank it for damage. The energy gained from ranking it up can be easily gained in other ways (Statting some Rec; using a toggle; using an energy unlock).
Rank/advantage points are not overly abundant. I tend to put them on powers I will use all the time. My goal in all freeform builds is to use the builder as little as possible, so I never rank it.
I might be more inclined to rank my builder if I were playing an Archetype. Most AT's don't have energy unlocks, have fewer powers than FF, and have powers I wouldn't bother using (redundant attacks). So, I would have fewer powers to rank up, and might not miss those spent on the builder.

Mostly agreed. There was some stuff that was less than accurate, or marginally irrelevant, but overall very well done for a newcomer.
I also don't think it was overly flattering and generally fair about CO and it's limitations as well as it's boons, for a newcomer.

It's still not worth it, as most of those secondary effects or advantages can be attained in much easier, more reliable and more fun ways than using your energy builder.
The only real reason I've found to rank an EB is if you like it and want to, in which case by Jove you do that thing you want to do!! Because some of the EBs look fracking awesome ranked and we should be the hero we damn well want to be!!!!!! Still useless tho.

'Caine, miss you bud. Fly high.
Yes, it is.
An energy builder does too low damages no matter its rank.
Ranking it can help to depend less on it as it'll provide more energy per hit.

I just chuck my energy builder on auto.
This way I can beat down on an enemy and have few to no gaps in my attacks due to end insufficiency.
Granted, I'm still fairly lowbie, and my grasp of the game is rather like...greased teflon at the moment.
