Comics are a wonderful idea that you left in the dust. This is something that people wanted more of.

Adventure packs are a wonderful idea that you left in the dust. This is something that people -wanted- more of.

Could you please repeat this pattern and move on from vehicles as well? Put out the hover bike for the people who desire a hover bike travel power, then just move on, please. This is the one situation where your tendency to leave content behind you is a very worthwhile endeavor. Please, just move on.

Listen to how disappointed your customer base is with vehicles and take them seriously. Vehicles are bugged, ineffective, and ultimately an -expensive- over glorified travel power. They aren't even strong enough to meet up to the standards of become devices, something else which is less expensive, can be used indoors (which much of end game takes place in, by the way), and are oftentimes also used for travel power benefits.

We know you aren't going to fix it, so just leave it behind you, please.

Thank you.

There's a reason for this: almost all of the Champions' crew has been pulled from this project and put into Neverwinter or Star Trek. It wouldn't surprise me if I could count the remaining full-time Champions staff on one hand.

I've only heard from Gentleman_Crush (whom I don't think much of anymore) and Drannic (used to be a GM and is appearantly a dev now) since On Alert. Word is that Robobo is also still working on CO, but I have my doubts.

Oh, and there is not a single GM left, it seems. Are they expecting the community to regulate itself, only by use of Report Spam aka. auto-silence? Virtual lynch justice, so to say? Looks like it.

/signed... yes please more content like Resistence. Man I played that for 2 months straight dozens of times, and the story was kick butt. When Dr Destroyer faced off aginst Shadow Destroyer, I was like "oh no he didn't", that never got old, I think I'm going to go run it again right now, just to become a Giant Robot and squash Henchlosers with my foot. Just pure win on that one Cryptic! What happened?

I understand there's fewer people working on the game, but the dish that's being served has no flavor. The game never had a lot of content to begin with, and they were going to work on expanding that. What happened to putting out an 'issue' for a comic every week?

All I've been seeing is power balancing, which is totally unnecessary given the state of PvP at this time, and vehicles. I understand PWE has some influence in the development of the game now, but surely Cryptic is at least able to tell PWE that the player base is disgruntled and wants more. What would PWE gain from having unhappy customers? Are there really enough people out there who buys so much of this vehicle stuff that it's profitable?

The vehicles are neat. It was a good idea on paper, but the way it was executed is really awful.

If they need more experience, give them the training they need. I'm fine with them taking the time to experiment and get experience in making content, as it'd mean they'll eventually have the skill to do so. Plus with more experienced developers that means content gets finished more quickly when developers return to CO (A distant hope). I'd be willing to bear with having a few comic issues that are a bit under par if it gives them the training they need to produce them at a quality state.

If they can't design new areas due to time constraints or skill, I'm fine with seeing the same environments over and over again, as long as there are different stories, themes, and enemy types behind each experience. There's a lot of area in CO that goes entirely unused, and the developers have a big playground to mess around with. Revisit Snake Gulch, or the area where you fight the mutations. Use more of Vibora Bay. A comic in Vibora would be awesome, as it'd let lowbies visit it as well, adding more variety in leveling all around for those who do like to PvE. A desert and Vibora comic would both be wonderful at this point.

If they need more time, that's fine. They're welcome to take all the time they need, as long as they're honest in saying that the kind of plans they're making isn't going to come out soon.

Communication is also crucial in this regard. Silence, then putting out a re-skinned tank when the player base has generally been discontented with vehicles in general is putting off an entirely wrong signal. And I've seen in other threads suggesting that it's the coming holidays. I'm just going to say this. .

A baker is expected to give quality bread when their store is open. If a baker does not deliver quality bread, then they get consumed by competitive bakers who do. The same goes for any business.

This is a problem for MMOs, because their business is always open. They're always expected to make 'quality bread' even when the developers are on holiday. If they don't deliver to the public what the public considers 'quality bread', then the business either fails or doesn't do as well as it can.

Champions Online is in a bad situation because, due to a long running history of being bug ridden and having limited PvE content, its 'bread' is generally a bit under par compared to what's on the market. It's mostly treated as a role playing tool by end gamers. I see countless people from levels 1-40 doing nothing all day but RPing in Club Caprice or hideouts, because it's truly an exceptional game for role play. That's the only reason most of my friends go back to it, because it's a great game for role play. And of course, as long as there are role players, there's fuel for the trolls as well.

But, Cryptic needs to give us the 'quality bread' we desire by either giving us more content (vehicles and power balancing doesn't count imo) which is content they -promised- us mind you, or they need to at least tell us what's going on.

"Hey, we don't quite have the experience to do this right now, but we're learning." Fine.

"Hey, we're working on something HUGE but we need more time." Fine.

"Hey, we're severely understaffed and are doing everything we can to get into a situation where we can provide what the players desire." That works too.

That's communication, and it's a part of what the community has been craving. It doesn't take long to type a post telling the community what's going on. Hell, I'd volunteer to do that myself if they absolutely have no people available to communicate with us. But vehicles haven't been working out in the whole idea of 'quality bread'. It's a rice cake at best, maybe some like it, but it's generally flavorless.

I'd be curious to see a chart showing how much money Cryptic/PWE actually makes off vehicle sales.

    TL:DR

Communication is important, as is listening to the player base.

I'm curious to see how well vehicle sales are actually doing.

I kinda stopped playing a bit because of their tendency to be like a puppy, getting really excited over a toy, but the moment you want to play with them or expand the game, they lose interest and move onto the next toy.
I am somewhat disappointed in the vehicles, but this was mainly because I envisaged them as more of a tool for RP than an actual combat thing, like police patrol cars and alter ego jalopies... It makes me a bit sad that they're all tech based too, since, from the beginning, the game has had three core themes to it. Mystical, Superscience, and regular weapons and army activities. Oh, and mutants and aliens. So 5 themes.
The vehicles just hit one or two of those, mainly superscience and armysoldierystuff. Oh, the possibilities that could have happened.

Also, I think my problem is that, outside of RP, this kind of MMO system is kinda... Seeming outdated, to me.
There's been countless examples of mechanics that would work with the superhero genre well, and the issue is that CO is kinda... Well... A standard MMO.
Like randomised basic quests that are proceedurally generated! Imagine that working with our Help a Citizen missions!
Or shifting territories and a 'war'going on, with faction zones based on how many players are active that have strong recognition with that faction (heroes, villains)...
I've loved it thus far, but I'm going to give it a break for a while in 2013, as I've kinda gotten bored of doing the same things you see everywhere.
It's getting harder to feel heroic.

Maybe when this recession's over we'll see a groundbreaking superhero MMO with cool mechanics, maybe.
I'm rambling a bit and losing my train of thought, so that's it for this post.
