Because they would have to still clean up the textures to be applied to models, or even if models were submitted, fix the polygons to confine to their poly budget for the game, as well as probably have to sift through tons of inappropriate items that get submitted (see: APB).

Some of us are professionals and don't need your supervision silverspar.
you assume that people with animation degrees don't play this game.
they release the perimeters it's enough. i hear they use 3DSmax which i have been using since 3dstudio 4 the version before 3DSmax 1. but your initial negative response was to be expected i guess.

Naw, no one is worried about the professionals. Its everyone else. The vast, endless sea, of jokers and trolls that would simply use such tools to make an mind boggling array of penis costumes.

The sad reality is they outnumber the professionals by an uncountable majority.

I'm more thinking of them releasing a kit then looking through submissions. i dont think people should be able to post in game.

Because they'd be nothing but white costumes with wangs drawn all over them.

As much as it pains me to say it. We are talking about Cryptic here. They cant even provide the needed staff to monitor the chat system. They instead have opted for the player regulated system we have all come to love.

Do you honestly think that if an open ended system were to be created that Cryptic would truly do so with the proper staff and controls or place? Or half-a$$ it and leave it open to the players? Stop for a moment and just imagine the horror of a player run costume system.

Sure, a few will be reported and corrected. But like the endless army of costume clones. For every one snuffed out, five more get made.

So would these open source costumes function like an add-on? If so, would it be required to play or optional? What would a player look like if they were using these custom pieces, if viewed by another player that did not have the pack? The problem is that if characters using custom pieces just looked like the default model to other players, then it'd kinda ruin the look of the game for the majority of players, (since they'd just see a sea of generic models).

And who would be responsible for distributing these costume packs? If the devs officially supported 3rd party packs, wouldn't they have to assume some responsibility that they were distributed bug-free and what-not?

It just seems like a bigger headache than it's worth...

    none of you are following
    1. cryptic releases a kit with an email to submit
    2. people make the costumes
    3. cryptic decides from those entered which ones can be used
    4. if any stand out cryptic releases for the game
    5. the system is not changed in anyway
i have no idea where you got this add-on idea
    other games do this

    So a community pack.

...Despite the fact that this would probably yield quite a positive result it still sounds far from being done.

Also...There would still be wangs everywhere.

No, im following. My problem with this is here....

They had a costume design contest with several hundred entries. It took two devs a few weeks to sort out that one event. And few if anyone was happy with the results.

And thats not even considering that they seem to have even less man power now.

Who in cryptic is going to be set aside to do this?

Jasin, as much as I like your idea and would love the idea to make a ton of "Super generic items which can be used for multiple costumes and aren't designed to mostly only work with other stuff in their set," I find myself agreeing with Sockmunkey in that Cryptic has NEVER run any event well in both my experiences and opinion.

This reminds me of an old Dennis Miller joke(back when he was funny and a comedian) which talked about the powers of states. The reply was,"States can't pave ******* roads!" This is the main issue I see here. I wish this was not the case, I could support this idea, and that anything on the suggestion forums was worth even discussing in the current grand scheme of this game.....but, I play CO instead so this thread and subforum have about the same Odds as the Hero Games Forums of seeing any kind of attention. :frown:

While I think the idea of open sourcing aspects of costume design is great, i'd probably go insane trying to fix all the issues with existing costumes so far.

I won't even get into textures. As a guy who does texture work for a living, this game makes my OCD frown at me quite often. X_X

I say Steam Workshop it. They could even let players submit "corrected" versions of existing models with problems, since they haven't been managing to fix them all the time themselves, if at all. Players could submit all kinds of things this way, not just costumes.
