Just a little idea I had and I think it would be popular. 10 permanent toggle devices that when activated covert half of the slashing, crushing and piercing damage done by the players melee powers into a type of elemental, energy or paranormal damage depending on the device thats activated.
What I have in mind is something like this.
Device 1: [Flaming Melee] Converts half your crushing, slashing and piercing damage from melee attacks into fire damage.
Device 2: [Freezing Melee] Converts half your crushing, slashing and piercing damage from melee attacks into cold damage.
Device 3: [Corrupted Melee] Converts half your crushing, slashing and piercing damage from melee attacks into toxic damage.
Device 4: [Lightning Melee] Converts half your crushing, slashing and piercing damage from melee attacks into electrical damage.
Device 5: [Thundering Melee] Converts half your crushing, slashing and piercing damage from melee attacks into sonic damage.
Device 6: [Powered Melee] Converts half your crushing, slashing and piercing damage from melee attacks into particle damage.
Device 7: [Ebon Melee] Converts half your crushing, slashing and piercing damage from melee attacks into dimensional dark damage.
Device 8: [Divine Melee] Converts half your crushing, slashing and piercing damage from melee attacks into dimensional light damage.
Device 9: [Psychic Melee] Converts half your crushing, slashing and piercing damage from melee attacks into ego damage.
Device 10: [Enchanted Melee] Converts half your crushing, slashing and piercing damage from melee attacks into magic damage.
The thing about these is that they would work with martial arts, melee weapons, might and any other type of melee combat and would allow a nice way to customize characters. If a player wants his character to wield a magical sword he could use the device that converts half melee damage to magic damage. And any player that wants their character to have elementally enhanced strength could just use the device that best suits what they have in mind. I know that there are a lot of CoH players who miss the elemental melee attacks they used to have and I'm sure plenty of of Champions Online players would like to do something similar and this could allow something along those lines in a way that's easy to use and would not require creating an entirely new powerset for (each damage type X each type of melee combat). If these even had an on hit visual effect like a burst of flame or electricity it would add nicely to the effect.
Once we had things called Power Replacers. Fiery swords, electric hammers and stuff. It was made for gear before the whole crafting/gear was overhauled. PR's replaced the powers you were using, gave added effects to others. PR's were great idea, but done poorly. Since then we have been asking ways to get fiery swords and stuff. We may get auras, without the dmgeffect. May get.

/signed. I would settle for only a 10% or 25% conversion that way it would feel more like a carrier attack but I like your idea no matter what the percentage.
They could also make each damage type an offensive item mod drop. That would be really cool.
